The role of the communications team is to promote CCF in its delivery of the life-changing message of the gospel of Jesus Christ to college-aged people in the Eugene area.
As a segment of CCF leadership, we hold the same vision: to see lives changed by the power of the gospel, to raise leaders of the next generation, and to reach every college-aged person in the Eugene/Springfield area. As a communications team, we do this through knowing our audience well and exploring options to find the best way to communicate with this specific group. CCF has some great things going on each year. It is our job to let the world know about it.

Who are we dealing with?

Writing
Figures
When writing figures, please use the following: For the numbers one to nine, always use words. For 10 and upwards, use figures.

Time

Always express times using the 12 hour digital clock format (ie. 12:00 instead of 12 oclock). Always specify between a.m. and p.m. and always use two periods.

Voice

Dont over-complicate. Be direct. Dont use more words than are needed. If a word can be eliminated without taking away the contents meaning, always eliminate the word.

At CCF, we strive for perfect grammar. In order to effectively communicate, we need to adhere to the rules of our language. Please read through this list of common grammar mistakes so we may avoid them for our organization.
Then vs. Than Affect vs. Effect

Use then to talk about things that happen in succession.

Im going to upload this picture to Instagram, then tweet it to my followers.

Affect means to influence or produce a reaction, and is almost always a verb.

Use than to compare one thing to another.

I hope that my lack of exercise doesnt affect my health too much. Our status update last night had a huge effect on our page views.

I have uploaded more Instagram photos than anyone I know.

Effect is the resulting thing that comes from the affecting agent, and describes the outcome. Its usually a noun.

Your vs. Youre

Your is possessive; use it to indicate something that belongs to someone.

I think your photo looks amazing on that site.

Which vs. That

Youre is a conjunction of you and are.

That is a restrictive pronoun, meaning it is vital to the noun to which its referring.
I wont buy any shirts that arent made in the United States.

Youre going to love the photos from last week!

Its vs. Its

Use its when speaking in the possessive. Its is the conjunction for it is.

You could say that the gold detailing on that bag is its best feature. Are you sure its okay if I borrow your car tonight?

Which introduces a relative clause and allows qualifiers that may not be essential (it qualifies). However, it has a flexible meaning, and can often be used to introduce a restrictive clause.

I read that blog sporadically, which is to say hardly ever. This shirt, which was made in the United States, is 100 percent cotton.

Few vs. Less

Use few or fewer when referring to things you can quantify.

There were fewer than 3 comments on the post last week. There are very few reasons that Comic Sans should ever come back into style.

Use less when the situation is hypothetical.

Unfortunately, I am much less inspired to read now than I was two years ago.
