about is what ‘post-cuts’ public
services will look like in the future.
Some commentators predict the 11.10
massive pressure on spending will
challenge the very existence of large
public service bureaucracies – in

employment. Others argue that

we as citizens will have to help the
State personally, to do things we
currently expect to be done ‘for
us’. Who’s winning the battle for the
future of public services? And might
‘post-cuts’ public services be more
bottom-up, more neighbourhood
focused, and more reliant on co-
delivery with local residents?
