Thegoalofthisworkshopistoperforma3stepanalysisonthepipeclamp shownhere: TheboltwillreceiveapretensionboltloadinLS1(lockedforLS2and3). ThepipewillreceiveaninternalpressureduringLS2. ThepipewillreceiveanaxialforceloadduringLS3.

BeginanewWorkbenchsessionand,fromtheProject page,chooseRestoreArchive...andbrowsetothe fileWS08_Pipe_Clamp.wbpzandOpen(location providedbyinstructor). Whenprompted,Saveusingthedefaultnameandthe samelocation.

FromtheUnitsmenuverify:

ProjectunitsaresettoMetric(kg,mm,s,C,mA,N,mV). DisplayValuesinProjectUnitsischecked(on).

Browsethe4contactpairs.Theyappeartobescoped correctlybutallbehavioriscurrentlybondedwhichwe willchange(seebelow). Contactbelowthebolt headandbetweenthe upperboltandhole: assumednoseparation. 3.

Contactinthreaded area:assumedbonded.

Ourassumptionofnoseparationcontactmeans someslidingcanoccurinthoselocations. Note,thecontactbetweentheclampandthepipe wouldnormallybefrictionlessinanapplicationlike this.Howeverintheinterestoftimewewishto avoiddoinganonlinearanalysisandonly demonstratemultistepsolutions.Thusbonded contactisretained. 6.

Noticeabodysizecontrolhasbeenaddedtothe bolt.Asdocumented,itisrecommendedthatamore refinedmeshbeusedwithboltpretension.
