50 BMG Certification Process

The Executive Officer, or a delegate of the XO who is aware of the 50 BMG, will be in charge of the certification process The certification process will be done at the range once a !ear and the certification is for both the rifle"s# and the $e$ber The certification card will show what ranges and the $axi$u$ distance the $e$ber is certified for The certification session is not a training session so $e$bers going for certification need to co$e to the session with the following infor$ation and capabilities % ( &o$petenc! with !our scope, to the level that if so$eone sa!s co$e up 5 MO' or % (5 $ills !ou can do this without assistance 'n understanding of the ballistics of the 50 and have co$petent general ballistics )nowledge *ou will de$onstrate this b! bringing with !ou a drop table for !our rifle and a$$o fro$ %00 !ards to at least %,000 !ards *ou will verif! these drops during the practical portion of the process 'bilit! to safel! handle and operate !our rifle -nowledge of the ballistics of !our gun and round to be able to ta)e a rifle with a %00 or (00 !ard .ero on it and step to fro$ +00 !ards up to %,000 !ards and )eep !our round on target *ou will .ero !our rifle, or de$onstrate it is .eroed, at the M/ range 'fter !our .ero is de$onstrated !ou will de$onstrate the abilit! to $aintain better than ( MO' accurac! with a five0shot group at +00 !ards 1ailure to $aintain a ( MO' or better five shot group will dis2ualif! !ou fro$ shooting an! further than +00 !ards 1ailure to $aintain a + MO' dis2ualifies !ou fro$ an! shooting on the -3 range 3e$onstrate co$petenc! to )eep all 5 rounds on target boards used b! G44& for co$petitions at that range, at 500, 600 and %,000 !ards, after !ou have !our .eroes at these ranges *ou will be dis2ualified if !ou do not hit the target within three shots while !ou are .eroing at an! firing point on the -3 range

Additional Rules for Shooting 50 BMGs


The additional rules in place for shooting 50 BMGs are uni2ue to that round due to the increased energ! of that round To $aintain safet! for people on the range and in the surrounding area and range e2uip$ent need to be upgraded fro$ the nor$al range rules 9hen the ter$s 50:s, or 50 BMG are used in this docu$ent the! cover all rounds based off of the 50 BMG case The italics are included ;ust for explanation purposes for us the! will re$oved before distribution % ( 'll other range rules that appl! will be followed The certified shooter will be right next to an!one else shooting their gun and is responsible for all rounds leaving the gun even though it is being shot b! so$eone else + 50:s will onl! be shot on the M/ and -3 ranges Use of the MP range is required for sighting the rifles in and possibly load development. , 7O /EO/<E will be in the pits area when an! 50:s are being shot on the -3 range Since the concrete wall will not protect those in the pits we can't allow them. 5 'n adult "preferabl! a $e$ber# will be on watch for people driving up to ber$ and exiting their cars without hearing protection on The person watching for these new arrivals will call a &E'=E 1>4E whenever so$eone drives up behind the shooting point This is necessary for protecting the hearing of people driving up to the Red Shed at a minimum. 5 '7*O7E under a roofed shooting point needs to have both plugs and $uffs for ear protection /lugs and $uffs are encouraged for an!one in the vicinit! of 50:s being fired ? The onl! allowed 50:s allowed are shoulder0fired guns and $ust be e2uipped with $u..le bra)es People have shot !'s without bra"es and this needs to be banned as the shooter has a reasonably high probability of detached retina. 6 7o G44&0owned steel targets will be shot b! 50:s 'll other rules regarding shooting steel will be followed @ 7o ar$or0piercing, tracers, incendiar!, or explosive bullets are allowed This will reduce fire damage and the chance of rounds hitting a berm and still have enough energy to leave the range. # "now tracers are banned in the general rules but nothing is said about incendiary rounds. %0 >n the event of a hang0fire the shooter is to leave the bolt closed and step awa! 'fter at least +0 seconds the bolt can be opened but $ust be opened with the e;ection port pointed wa! fro$ the shooters and others in proxi$it! Standard procedure for hang$fire weapons but important when shooting surplus rounds with this much energy.
