POLICIES AND GUIDELINES: 1. You are expected to read the assigned sections in your book before Grading System GRADE coming to class. from to less 2. A student may be exempted from taking the final exam if all of the 0 45 5 following conditions are satisfied: 45 50 4 (1) passed all long exams 50 55 3 (2) has an average long exam score of 60% or better 55 60 2.75 (3) has a total recitation score that is 75% or better of the maximum 60 65 2.5 possible score 65 70 2.25 An exempted students final exam grade will be the average of the long 70 75 2 exams 75 80 1.75 3. In case of one (1) missed exam for a valid reason, the student must 80 85 1.5 take a make-up exam. (Submit your medical certificate on the following 85 90 1.25 class meeting.) 4. A grade of 4.0 means conditional and that you will have to take the 90 100 1 removal exam within a year. The removal exam is a problem solving type exam. (Note: Please check removal exam schedules. The students must bring his/her approved removal permit, pen and calculator for the removal exam. No removal permit, no exam.) 5. Attendance will be checked. As per university rule, a students unexcused absences should not exceed 12 hours. If violated, the instructor will give a final grade of 5.0 6. There is NO FORCED DROP. The lecturer will only give the student a grade of DRP upon receiving the processed dropping or Leave of Absence (LOA) form. Otherwise, a grade of 5.0 is given. 7. The deadline for Dropping is on FRI, 7 September 2011 and for Leave Of Absence (LOA) is on FRI, 21 September 2011. A student granted a LOA will only be given a grade of either DRP or 5.0. A grade of 5.0 is given if the LOA is granted after of the semester has lapsed and the student's class standing is failing; otherwise a grade of DRP is given. 8. Cheating is punishable by suspension of at least one year or expulsion from the University. 9. Assigned readings are specified in the course outline. 10. Chapter 1, Chapter 1 Exercises, and Answers to the Chapter 1 Exercises of Spacetime Physics can be downloaded from www.eftaylor.com. 11. Please show courtesy during class hours and examinations by turning off your cellular phone.
