Fleischmanns Factoid The building of the dam that created Lake Switzerland in 1907 caused something of a land boom. All of a sudden, there was prime waterfront real estate. The lake was the focus of recreation for many years, including swimming, boating and ice skating in winter. There was even a small Amusement Park at the head of the lake! Ice was harvested from the lake in the winter, and used to help preserve produce. Properly packed in sawdust in a cool location, the ice could last well into the summer. Many homes in the Fleischmanns area still have their old Ice Houses.
