(a) Write about the discrete cosine transforms and hence its properties. (b) Prove the least mean square error property of KL transforms. (a) Explain in detail about spatial filtering. (b) Explain how histogram processing is adapted to local enhancement? (a) With the help of a block diagram explain the basics of filtering in frequency domain. (b) Write about the Band pass and band reject filters & their usage in enhancement process. With the help of degradation / restoration model explain the process of restoration, and hence derive an expression for least mean square error restoration filter. (a) Write about edge detection and edge linking. (b) Explain the region growing method of segmentation. Explain the three types of redundancies in images and suggest a technique for each to eliminate these redundancies. (a) Discuss about various color models for images. (b) Discuss the effects reducing the spatial and gray level resolutions. (a) Discuss dimensionality of image transforms in terms of their Kronecker product separability. (b) Explain the basic principle of fast algorithms used to compute image transforms. (a) Discuss image enhancement through piecewise linear intensity transformation functions. (b) Interpret how image enhancement is achieved through histogram equalization process. (a) Explain the image enhancement process using Laplacian in the frequency domain. (b) Explain why there is ringing effect in ideal filters and also justify that Gaussian filters are free from ringing. With the help of an image degradation / restoration model explain the restoration process and hence derive an expression for inverse filter used for restoration. (a) Define the concept of thresholding and hence differentiate between global, local and adaptive thresholding. (b) Explain how segmentation is done using thresholding process? (a) What is data compression? And hence define the following terms: i) Relative data redundancy. ii) Compression ratio. (b) With the help of an example explain about coding redundancy.
