Taking Charge of Your Career Direction: Career

Planning Guide, Book 1 (Paperback)
by Robert D. Lock (Author)

1.Book Reviews

Review

“This manuscript presents a strong stepwise progression through an explicit

career planning process — through current and changing trends in the world
of work, occupational exploration and information gathering strategies,
career-related self study methods, goal setting and decision-making
processes, and reality testing and evaluation approaches. It contains a wealth
of useful tools, exercises, resources, and information summaries presented in
a clear, engaging, and coherent fashion.”

“I think the manuscript is unique in the specific topics it covers, and it

covers them very well. There are various texts and workbooks on career
development, but none that do as good a job. Two major strengths of the
manuscript are that it is totally up to date, and the exercises make it a
participative book rather than just another textbook. It is well-written,
thorough, and engaging.”

Book Description
Long described by users as the most complete, motivating, and logical
career-planning book on the market, the Fifth Edition of TAKING CHARGE
OF YOUR CAREER DIRECTION continues to provide a straightforward
introduction to the concepts of career choices and the importance of
planning. It emphasizes the importance of self-exploration by empowering
readers to look at themselves, their strengths and weaknesses, and their
background and values, and then realistically evaluate the various
opportunities in the world of work.

“Using a workstyle assessment technique called Color Q, this is probably

one of the best career self-testing books you’ll ever run across.” — Mensa
Bulletin, June 2007
“For thousands of Americans Shoya Zichy’s landmark 276 page
masterpiece, “Career Match” may have simultaneously squelched the
wretched specter of unemployment and brought career satisfaction to those
who sing the blues at a time when their nation’s economy has been sporting
a historically rosy complexion…The most compelling reason for reading
this book and why we are bringing it to the attention of TravelSmart readers
is that “Career Match” makes it easier for anyone who wants to squeeze the
most out of their life experience to do just that. That’s why I bought copies
for each of my children (all over 40 now). If they can get as much out of the
book as I did they’ll be grateful for the rest of their lives. ”
