with accent yarn. You will drag the color 1 yarn thru the knitting to pick up the needles needed. This will not show in your completed square. Continue to work your design by following one row at a time. Fill in the stitches in the pattern and return to the main color and weave the row in stockinette pattern always skipping the needles with accent yarn. Remember: When doing a row that has completed stitches in accent yarn that skips around, be sure to stay in stockinette pattern with main color even tho you are skipping needles. Always be sure to wrap all needles with the 2nd wrap. Once you have completed your 28 rows, loosely bind off the square. Make 13 squares with 2 colors. You have completed a total of 25 squares. Lay them out on table or other flat area, as you want them arranged. Our blanket has alternating design and solid squares. The top row is (3) 1-color and (2) 2-color squares. Second row is (2) 1-color, and (3) 2-color squares. Keep alternating this layout and end with row same as top row. Once you have determined the layout of your blanket, start sewing them together with the main color yarn. Do this with invisible stitch. Sew the squares with a loose hand so as not to bind the blanket and lose the softness. Be sure to place your squares with the knit going same direction. Sew side seam to side seam for each row. Connect each row. Be sure to stretch out the squares when sewing the rows together. This will ensure a more even outside edge for the finished blanket.

Note: If you decide to make a larger blanket, just do more squares and sew to outside edges. Knitting long rectangles the length of the blanket in one continuous flow can also do this. It can also be done with the contrasting color or even a 3rd color for an accent border. If you plan to make this a Christmas afghan, you will want to play with some additional designs for your squares. Always start with a piece of graph paper and draw out the 26 across to represent the 26 stitches. Do the 28 down to represent the 28 rows to be knitted. You may want to tie in additional small amounts of color yarn. This will give the Christmas tree some decorations, or a wreath with a touch of red berries. Lets look at a different design, for the Holidays, some Christmas Trees added to your design.
