VASTUSHASTRA

Man, being the most advanced living being in nature, his dwelling place too should be the best among all. Harmony with the environment, peace for the spirit and health for the Human being are the criteria for healthy homes. This need of a comfortable dwelling place, known as House, along with other requirements of life was very well identified by our forefathers long back and ndia has the honor of being the first country in the world to boast of the origin of this !cience of House "uildings#, known as $astu !hastra. $astu !hastra prefers to the ndian art of placement. $astu is a !anskrit word it means House of %welling, and is in harmony with nature. t is an ancient principle of home management. it also means constructing or furnishing a house in such a manner so that it maintain a balance between the Man and &ature. FENG SHUI 'eng !hui is an ancient (hinese art which gives idea of living in harmony with environment to lead lives of contentment and happiness . t also includes a strong, loving and harmonious relationship, as without this we are unlikely to be contented and happy. 'eng )*ir and !hui)+ater, this is how the word ,'eng !hui signifies the management of air and water in connection with the magnetic energy of the earth and human body. -robably , this wisdom migrated their from ndia before the Mahabharatha war. The popular science of 'eng !hui of china and 'ar east the modified version of ndian $astushastra.

FENG SHUI V/S VASTUSHASTRA The basic concept of both these sciences is to conserve the cosmic or the vital life force within ones home or workplace. "oth $astu and 'eng !hui are practiced to remove obstructions for the flow of energy. This energy can create the harmony of environment. The prime difference between 'eng shui and $astushastra is based on regional concerns. The sand stoms, blocks from the north and the position of the entrance of the home it should not be acceptable in 'eng !hui but on the other hand $astushastra favours the entrance of housing north and east. $astushastra is based on science but 'eng !hui is based on local geographic consideration and traditions. $astu and 'eng !hui both comprises of five elements as $astu uses earth, water, fir,air and space but 'eng !hui comprises of wood and metal in place of earth and space. $astu is proving more beneficial to man as compared to 'eng !hui for -ersonal use and benefits of clients. The life energy in $astushastra is refered to $astu -urisha. The prime goal of $astushastra is to bring a balance between internal and e.ternal world. 'eng !hui promotes the idea of living in concord with the environment to attract prosperity and fortune.

EVOLUTION AND IMPORTANCE OF CIVIL ENGINEERING IN HUMAN LIFE would like to quote a famous saying perfection is made of many trivial things but perfection is not a trivial thing#. *s far as the origin of civil 0ngineering is concerned the nomad must have thought of constructing a house by seeing birds which build houses 1nests2 which are totally leak proof, which can protect themselves and their offsprings from rain and sun. Today whatever the civil 0ngineering facilities or structures we are having, like roads, skyscraper buildings, &uclear 3eactors, %ams, bridges etc are the fruits of the efforts put by the civil 0ngineers throughout the world. The great wall of china, pyramids, Meenkshi *mman temple of Tamilnadu, e.cellent architectural marvels of "elur and Halebidu temples of karnataka and many other ancient structures proves that there were many e.cellent civil 0ngineers were there on this earth. n the ancient times ndians, 4reeks, Mesopotanians, 0gyptians, (hinese proved to be best civil 0ngineers. Harappan (ivilisation which is also known as the ndus valley civilisation and Mohan5o6daro civili7ations which were between 89:: ".(6;<:: ".( are the live e.amples of e.cellent construction methods adopted by them. "ig straight roads, wells with spacious bathing platforms, e.cellent drainage system were the salient features of their construction. *s far as the evolution and development of civil 0ngineering is considered there are many milestones. t came to know that during Mesopotanian civilisation around =::: ".( they were having the knowledge of binder i.e. (ement. !ubsequently this binder was e.tensively used by 3oman 0ngineers. mprovisation of this (ement lead to development of Hydrophobic (ement, 3apid hardening (ement, 3efractory (ement etc. brought revolutions in (ivil 0ngineering (onstructions. The ama7ing binding quality of cement has created revolution in (ivil 0ngineering. This property made the construction easy since (oncrete can be transported to any height. The skyscrapers like "ur5 >haleefa which is around ?;?m 1*round ;@::ft2 and 8<= floors is an ama7ing result of this revolution. *nother milestone is notable in the evolution of civil 0ngineering that is the roads. There comes the idea of !cottish civil 0ngineer Aohn Boudon Mcadam. 3oads after whose. &ame it became popular. Then subsequently leading to the "ituminous Macadam roads, concrete roads etc. *s far as Modern ndia is concerned the name of "harat 3atna %r.!ir.M.$ishweshwaraya is always remembered. n ndia engineers day is being celebrated on !eptember 8/ on his birth *nniversary. Today we have knowledge of prestressing concrete, high strength concrete, light weight concrete, high density concrete etc. "ut to achieve the above astronishing products the basics remains same. !trict quality control measures plays a ma5or role. *s already told in the beginning perfection is made of many trivial things but perfection is not a trivial thing#.
