artin Luther King, Jr. once said: Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.... You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love. Mission ConneXion could not function without the hundreds who volunteer, not only for two days in January, but also throughout the year. Whether they recruit speakers for the 125-plus workshop sessions, are part of a ConneXion event planning team, or serve on the monthly Steering Team, our volunteers reflect their greatness in mobilizing for mission! it's dangerous to love Jesus in China. We had been praying about going into the overseas mission field for a few years and had recently moved to the Portland area for fulltime helicopter flight school. We knew that God wanted to use us someplace where helicopters can support longterm tribal missionaries in the most effective way. We have been commissioned by our church and our sending agency, Helimission, and will be leaving for full-time service in Papua, Indonesia, in one year! It's so wonderful to look back on the last five years of attending MCNW and glorify God for how He has brought us along. He truly has used MCNW as a major tool in our journey and we are so grateful!

hen we first walked into Mission ConneXion Northwest (MCNW) almost five years ago, our pulses quickened and we became very quiet. We had never been to anything like it. We were astounded at the amount of people, information booths and workshops. For two days, we asked many questions and took home a bag stuffed with brochures, pamphlets, coloring sheets and books. Our kids, ages 4 and 5 at the time, also became engaged in the conference. They went from booth to booth and even had some conversations about what's it like to be a missionary, what kinds of animals live in Kenya and why

ome of us fear moments when we need to defend our theology. Some of us seek them out. But we are seldom ready the way Jesus seemed to be ready. So how do we draw others to God in the midst of these ordinary conversations the way Jesus did? Carl Medearis draws on his experience of international reconciliation between Muslims and Christians to remind us of the heart of the matter: Jesus. During this all day seminar, Carl will give us the tools, stories, and foundation we need to move beyond us and them and simply talk about the One who changes it all. Leadership ConneXion was started by a team of
mission pastors with a vision to raise an awareness of trends and strategies making a difference in the world today. In recent years, leaders from mission organizations and schools have joined its planning committee; sharing a passion for partnership and for global impact. The topics selected are designed to keep missional leaders informed about global issues, and how they can improve their effectiveness in ministry both locally and globally. This seminar is no exception. Carl is an international expert in the field of Arab-American and MuslimChristian relations. He acts as a catalyst for a number of current movements in the Middle East to promote peace-making and to promote cultural, political and religious dialog leading toward reconciliation. He is the author of the acclaimed book on these issues titled Muslims, Christians and Jesus.
Carl, his wife Chris, and three kids lived in Beirut, Lebanon for 12 years. Through their unique and strategic approach around the Arab world, they encouraged university students, business professionals and political leaders to live their lives by the principles and teachings of Jesus in order to change their societies and nations. Today Carl spends much of his time working with leaders both in the West and in the Arab world with the hope of seeing the Arab Middle East and the West experience full and fruitful relationships through the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Leadership ConneXion is Friday, January 17, at Crossroads Community Church, in Vancouver, WA. This all-day seminar is from 8:30 AM to 4 PM and the cost is $50 per person, materials and lunch included.
