Community Service and Scholarships What Does It Mean?

Some scholarships require that recipients do community service as part of their education. They are looking for students who have done volunteer work either here at the CIA or in the community. This includes any type of nonpaid activity done for the betterment of, or in service to, others. For example: serving at a soup kitchen, being a club officer, assisting a chef prepare for an exam, or tutoring a child or adult in reading. Remember, your education is about more than what you take from an experience. It is also about what you give back.

FINANCIAL AID OFFICE MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Financial Aid Office at The Culinary Institute of America is to provide accurate and timely information and service in a professional and friendly atmosphere so that our students can have access to all available financial aid.

Student Web Portal (Net Partner)

For easy access to your bill from the Bursar, your financial aid awards and scholarship applications along with other important financial aid information utilize the Student Web Portal.

Finding a Work-Study Community Service Job

We have an arrangement with several schools in the immediate area to provide paying community-based jobs for our Federal Work-Study students. These jobs might include assisting youngsters with such jobs as lunchroom duty, tutoring and flashcard drills, playground duty, and many others. You are paid for your travel time to and from the school in addition to your time spent there. This is a chance to earn work-study money while helping in the surrounding community. The hourly wage for these off-campus community work-study positions is higher than for comparable on-campus FWS jobs. For additional information, please come to the Financial Aid Office.

IMPORTANT FACTS!
1. You may apply for scholarships when you are on externship or are waiting for the next BPS start date. When searching the student portal for applications please note that you may only apply for scholarships that are in the CURRENT Financial Aid Times. Get scholarship deadline dates from the Financial Aid Times. Computers are available in the Financial Aid Office to help you file your FAFSA form, apply for your loans, or perform a scholarship search.
