Dinosaurs rule the world and you are the biggest, coolest, silliest Dino of them all. Character creation and story exploration are the focus. Using stories like How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight? and Dinosaur Dinner (with a Slice of Alligator Pie) as a springboard, we will create Dino Tales all our own! How does Raccoon love pizza? Oh, let him count the ways. He loves the gooey cheesyness, salty pepperoni-ness, sweet sweet tomato-ness, and of course the crispity crunchity crust. But someone is always chasing poor Raccoon away from his favorite food with a broom! What's a hungry raccoon to do? Work together to overcome all these obstacles (and more) and plan the most elaborate secret pizza party of all time (But shhh! Its a secret! In fact, you should probably just forget I told you. Beloved by all, the stories of Dr. Seuss are inspiring examples of how to create a world all your own through crazy characters and silly and tongue-twisty words. July 14-18 AM: Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee Boy

July 28-August 1 AM: Tickled Pink

Playgrounds are supposed to be happy places, but for Sam and Lulu, they seem to be a hornet's nest of discord. Finally they discover a game that brings out the best in both of them. As superheroes Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee Boy, Lulu and Sam save the playground from hairy monsters and big mean robots. Join us as we work together to overcome the meanness and save the play! It all begins with an acute case of pinkatitus, an affliction that turns our heroine pink from head to toe! More than anything, Pinkalicious loves pink, especially pink cupcakes. August 4-8 AM: Monster Mayhem with Mercer Mayer

The zany critters, gentle monsters and imaginative illustrations of Mercer Mayer are the focus of our adventure. Through Mayers engaging stories There's a Nightmare in My Closet and One Monster After Another, we will have fun expressing our own clever characters through creative dramatics and visual art in this camp for the young artist. Poor Duncan just wants to color. But when he opens his box of crayons, he finds only letters, all saying the same thing: His crayons have had enough! They quit! Beige Crayon is tired of playing second fiddle to Brown Crayon. Black wants to be used for more than just outlining. Blue needs a break from coloring all those bodies of water. And Orange and Yellow are no longer speaking because each believes he is the true color of the sun. PM: Fractured Fairy Tales

Fairy tales include all kinds of magical events and creatures that make life interesting. Together we will take familiar stories and reshape them with new characters, settings, problems and surprises. Perhaps well meet kind, beautiful ogres, find a small, helpful wolf cub or encounter a shy, clumsy prince or princess. In addition to using our voices and bodies, we will explore the other languages of theatre including dance, design and costumes. Time: 1-3:30pm / Camp ID: P13 Tuition: $170

PM: Dancing Aesops Fables

Working together, students will use gesture, movement and dance to explore the enchanted stories of Aesop. The different elements of dance will be explored in conjunction with a different fable each day. Students will read The Tortoise and the Hare as we investigate the difference between fast and slow movement and as we explore the difference between bound movement and free movement, we will read The Oak and the Reed. Students will also have the opportunity to create and perform dance vignettes based on Aesops treasured tales. Time: 1-3:30pm / Camp ID: P15 Tuition: $170

Set sail for a faraway land where crocodiles and mermaids swim and Pirates and Pixies rule! Control the shadows with your imagination. Fly through the sky or dive deep below the waters surface to create an adventure fit for a King or Queen. The story is yours to steer so come enjoy the journey. Goodnight monsters everywhere enjoy this parody romp with its own special twist. Goodnight tomb. Goodnight Goon. Goodnight Martians taking over the moon! Its bedtime in the cold gray tomb with a black lagoon, and two slimy claws and a couple of jaws and a skull and a shoe and a pot full of goo. But as these little werewolves settle down, in comes the Goon determined at all costs to run amok and not let any monster have his or her rest. A beloved classic gets a kind-hearted send up in this utterly monsterized parody. Working together, we will bring this silly parody (and others!) to life. What would you do if the game you were playing plopped you right into the action? Together we will read Jumanji a story of magical journeys that come to life through a board game. Magical characters like fairies and wizards help us imagine the world we want to live in, wish by wish. In this camp, well meet one particular tormentor on the playground: Jean is her name, and being mean is her game. Work together to shed new light on this mysterious bully and what can happen when a new kid shows no fear! Time: 1-3:30pm / Camp ID: P19 Tuition: $170

It's time to harness the power of the elements! Using Earth, Air, Fire and Water, students will create their own elemental escapades developing characters and scenes to share as they control the elements. Develop skills in comedic acting, dance, prop and scenic creation as we explore the fractured fairy tales of Jon Scieszkas Caldecott-winning book of the same title. Each day we read a new silly story. Then through games, art projects and songs we put our own twist on the tales. He just didn't know about all the changes and responsibilities that came with it. And why didn't anyone warn him about the possible pratfalls of boy-girl parties? Explore together all the inside information (real and not so real) that the Hogwarts Library holds! Imagine all of the things that might go wrong as students practice spells to transform objects and learn to fly on brooms. As we play games to learn acting technique, we will use our imaginations to develop all the elements of an original story about a young group of sorcerers and the problems they encounter. Young actors will quickly learn theatre vocabulary and apply what they've learned as they collaboratively create dialogue on their feet through improvisation. In this mischievous and utterly original story, Hansel and Gretel walk out of their own story and into eight other classic Grimminspired tales. As the story unfolds, we follow the siblings through a forest brimming with menacing foes and learn the true story behind (and beyond) the bread crumbs, edible houses and outwitted witches. Robin Hood is back with a rowdy band of merry makers, and its a good thing because Sherwood Forest has never needed them more! Students will create and perform a reimagined version of the beloved Robin Hood tale with a twist. What does Sherwood Forest look like these days? Can they still outwit the Sheriff of Nottingham? Full Day (9am-4pm for one week): The Invention of Hugo Cabret

This musical adaptation captures all the magic of Ludwig Bemelmans beloved 1959 book. When Madeline and her friend, Pepito, get lost during a visit to the carnival and end up being carried away by gypsies, their exciting adventures with a traveling circus begin! But poor Miss Clavel wont rest until she has brought them safely home. This musical bursts with daring circus acts, songs and sweet silliness. Come get carried away by the gypsies!

This intensive is specifically designed for students who have demonstrated a commitment to their craft as performers and display a positive attitude in their work. Students work with like-minded peers and industry professionals in the creation of this musical to be performed on our Cohen Stage. The jungle is jumpin with jazz in our version of Disneys The Jungle Book Revue. This musical revue will be adapted from the classic film and will include all your favorite Disney tunes, like The Bare Necessities and I Wanna Be Like You. Our story begins with a human boy named Mowgli on the run from a ferocious tiger, Shere Khan, that has banished him from the jungle. Bagheera, the panther, hopes to guide Mowgli to the safety of the village, but Mowgli doesnt want to leave the jungle. Along the way, the two meet a sinister snake named Kaa, a herd of elephants and a giant bear named Baloo, who teaches them the swingin musical rhythms of the jungle. After surviving a dangerous encounter with a band of monkeys led by King Louie, Mowgli and Bagheera are forced to run for their lives. When Shere Khan returns for battle, Mowgli bravely rallies the jungle creatures as they try to destroy Shere Khan and restore peace to the jungle. Not only will our young actors be singing songs from this exciting musical, but they will be acting and dancing too! Whats more fun than creating characters from a favorite Disney Musical? Youre the starwriter, composer, and actorand theres nothing like collaboration to make you want to sing out! This unique camp brings out the writer, composer and performer in each student and pushes them to invent in a safe and creative environment. Grades 7-12 Special Summer Offerings June 9-13 - Full Day (9am-4pm for one week): Creating Theatre for the Very Young
Students will collaborate with composer/lyricist Marya Hart and playwright/choreographer Matt Jenson to create an original theatre piece to be performed for 3-5 year olds. Using a blend of music, theatre, dance and puppetry, we will create a show like Sesame Street (or Avenue Q with all of the fun, but none of the grown-up parts). On our final day of camp, we will bring our show to a neighborhood early childhood center (giving the little ones a chance to meet the puppets and enjoy the story) in the morning and then perform it for friends and family in the afternoon. Breaking apart the audition process step by step, students will be given material specifically tailored to their personalities and acting strengths. If you love making original theatre and care about the environment, this is the camp for you! Using recycled materials, we will build a performance that will leave a small carbon footprint and a large impression on the audience. We will begin by exploring traditional techniques in making performances and then expand to the use of non-traditional texts, as well as introducing participants to techniques in object theatre, puppetry and visual theatre. Together, students will create content centered on the environment and how humans impact it. Musical theatre performers often cut their teeth performing in cabarets in New York City. This in-depth, advanced-level performance experience is for serious students of musical theatre. Working in music, comedy, song and drama, students will have the opportunity to work on musical theatre solos, small group numbers of their choice or meet with the instructor to choose material together. In workshop format, we will explore each piece of material as we craft professional, daring, show-stopping performances. Director: Debra Baron Musical Director: John Lynn With a pulsating rock score, bare explores the intimate relationships between a group of high school seniors at a co-ed Catholic boarding school. Navigating the complex road from adolescence to adulthood, they discover the path to their identity, sexuality and faith in these contemporary times.

A five day immersion into five genres of singing: Jazz, Classical, Rock/Pop, Musical Theatre and R&B. This intensive provides a safe, relaxed, fun and encouraging environment to explore parts of your voice you never even knew you had. We will experiment with new styles of singing while studying the techniques and tricks of recording artists and stage performers. In our quest to find passionate personal connections to your songs and with your audience, each vocalist will have the opportunity to work as part of an ensemble and as a soloist. Extended Care Option

To make your childs camp experience easier than ever, Childrens Theatre Company is pleased to offer our convenient Extended Care option to daily camp participants. Through a partnership with the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, when your child attends a camp at any one of our facilities, they are eligible to participate in our Extended Care Program. For children entering kindergarten and older, you have the option to arrive at camp before your camp begins or have your child stay after camp has ended. While your child is here, they will be able to participate in free play and organized activities with Childrens Theatre Companys celebrated education staff. Morning extended care begins at 8am until camp begins at either 9am or 9:30am. Afternoon extended care begins at 3:30pm and ends at 5:30pm. Payment: There are two options for extended care payment allowing greater flexibility for you! Day-By-Day: Pay when you arrive and choose between a Morning or Afternoon Session or both! $10/per session Please note only payments of exact change or check will be accepted when purchased on-site. Weekly Pass (Monday-Friday): You can purchase a morning or afternoon pass for $28; or You can make use of both morning and afternoon care for $55. Camp sizes are limited to ensure the best possible learning environment for your student. Please register early to ensure a spot, as registrations are held on a first paid basis. All camps are subject to cancellation prior to camp start if minimum enrollment is not met.

Supervision / Pick Up

TAT supervision ends at the end of each session. Students 9 years and older will wait at CTCs Stage Door entrance to be picked up. Students 4 to 8 years must be dropped off and picked up from their classroom.

Dance & Movement Attire

Students should wear clothing that is easy to move in and that won't inhibit movement. The more clearly the teacher can see the students body joints, the more easily the teacher can give the student technical feedback. Dressing in layers is a good idea, but wearing a lot of bulky clothing makes it difficult to give feedback. It can be a bit cool in the studio at the beginning of camp and very warm by the end, so please be prepared to shed extra clothing as we go along. Hair should be pulled back and off the students face. Please remove all large or dangling jewelry prior to camp to prevent injuries.

Shoes:

Most dance camps require bare feet unless otherwise noted. For ballet, tap or jazz camps, please wear the appropriate shoes for that style of dance. Students are encouraged to dance barefoot during creative movement camps. If you have questions about what to wear, ask your instructor or the TAT office.

To help bring dreams to life for all children in our community, CTC has created the ACT Pass our new program to bridge the economic realities of low income families. Last summer our shift to offering camps to grades K-2 and grades 2-3 was a hit but needed a little refinement. This summer, based on suggestions from our families, we have decided to make a slight adjustment and offer camps for those entering grades K-1 and for grades 2-3 with the same great full day option. We also added a small musical note to alleviate the confusion about which camps feature musical theatre components and which do not. This summer, our students will be bringing to life Dear Edwina Jr. (Jr Intensive) and bare (Sr Intensive).
