Schools of Mission Theology and Ordination in Philippine Context Class Schedule Schedule: The class will run for 10 months and will consist of 3 days of classes each month. Based on the Baptist Conference of the Philippines' Affirmation of Faith, the class will examine each article in light of traditional evangelical theology and look at applications and contributions in the Philippine context. The main homework of he course is that students will be required to write and defend their own personal statement of faith. The class will culminate in SEATS' first Theological Forum, which will also serve, if possible, as the ordination council for the candidates. 1. We start a live class in June 2012 that goes through the 12 or so parts of the BCP statement of faith. We could do one 3-day class per article, as follows: -THEOLOGICAL CONCEPTS: First day would cover the background for each article from both Western (Greek) theologies and biblical evidences/support. -THEOLOGICAL CONCEPTS IN PHILIPPINE CONTEXT: Second day would look at translating that article into Filipino (whatever dialects are represented among the students). Translation looking beyond simply supplying a vernacular gloss for each English word toward translating the concepts held within the article itself. -FILIPINO VOICES IN THEOLOGICAL CONCEPTS: Third day would look at how the Philippine context can add to add to the richness of the Western Theologies expressed in the SOF? What things are missing? What needs to be clarified in more Eastern terms? Etc. 2. The candidates write their statements in the usual motif style, but pay particular attention to making what they write understandable in the Philippine context (and not so much focus on making it understandable to John Calvin, Martin Luther, missionaries, etc :-) CLASS OUTLINE 1.
