(A) Pre-Reading/Viewing:
a. Below are the things you should be able to say in Spanish after reading/listening to the
text/video. Think about these vocabulary words and phrases as you watch the video. You do
have to write anything down. You should just watch and listen to the video from beginning to
end, focusing mainly on what is happening in the story, but thinking about how each of the
things below are said in SPANISH.

(C) Post Reading: Complete the following speaking and writing activities after completion of all the
reading tasks above.
1. HABLAR (Speaking): Working with a table partner, give the following information orally IN
SPANISH, using complete sentences. Then switch roles so that both have the opportunity to do
the speaking task. Use your answers to the during reading activities as guidance if you do not
remember how to say something in Spanish. You may write your statements down on a piece of
scratch paper if desired.
i. Greet your partner using the appropriate greeting for the time of day right now.
ii. Tell him/her your name
iii. Describe yourself (use a descriptive adjective from the story or another adjective you know)
iv. Tell him/her something that you have (can be family members, pets, things, etc. or can be
something imaginary that you pretend to have right now, such as un burrito, un lpiz, una gorra,

etc.) You may add descriptive adjectives or numbers to describe or tell how many you have.
v. Tell him/her something that you like. (*As a bonus, also tell something you dont like.)
vi. Ask him/her politely for several of something (anything) *For example (Can you give me 3
pencils, please?")
1. He/she should pretend to (or really if possible) give you the items you ask for, and you
should politely respond by saying thank you.
vii. Tell him how many of the items there are. For example: There are three pencils.

2. ESCRIBIR (Writing): Working individually (but helping each other in your table groups if
needed), write a letter to un amigo in Costa Rica, providing the following information in
COMPLETE SENTENCES IN SPANISH:
i. GREETING (Use any letter greeting or general greeting appropriate for any time of day.)
ii. YOUR NAME
iii. A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF YOURSELF
