Transition plans for Students going into the BE/ME from BE Chemical, Chemical & Biological, Chemical &

Materials, Chemical & Metallurgical and Environmental Engineering

Introduction & How to Use This Document

The BE/ME will begin for the various Chemical Engineering plans in 2012. Students enter the BE/ME after three years of the corresponding BE plan. The BE and BE/ME course lists, for students starting in 2012, are now up on the courses and programs website. However, the BE/ME is not just available for student starting in 2012 but is also available for current students who started their BE in 2009 2011. Special arrangements have been put in place for these students (only) so that they can go on to do the BE/ME. On the following pages are tables outlining the arrangements put in place so you can transition from your current BE to the new BE/ME. The tables highlight the common courses and differences between your current (pre-2012) plan and the BE/ME plans. This includes the years you have already completed and what you have left to do to complete a BE/ME. On the header of each page is the description of the BE BE/ME transition plan on the page, for example BE (Chemical) BE/ME (Chemical). The heading at the top of the column then describes the year level that the table applies to, either entering 3rd or 4th year in 2012. The legend for the tables is given below. Students entering 2nd year in 2012 are exempt from completing ENGG1100 and ENGG1200 if they have completed ENGG1000 and a BE elective (likely a B1 elective). Besides this exemption, they need to follow the 2012 course lists for entry into the BE/ME and do not need to worry about the following transition plans. These tables are set-up for students doing a normal progression of courses. If you have failed courses or gone on exchange, you may vary from what is outlined and should consult your academic advisor. Similarly if it is not clear what you need to do, contact your academic advisor.

Explanation This is a compulsory Bachelors level course that remains the same in the pre-2012 course list and in 2012 course lists of the BE and BE/ME. New compulsory Masters level course for the BE/ME. BE level elective. Restrictions may apply to these, consult the rules of the BE/ME (e.g. there is a maximum number of level 1 electives). Elective available for BE/ME students as listed in Part N of the BE/ME course lists. Course in the BE or BE/ME 2012 course lists that has been done, or will be done, in a different place in the degree compared to the 2012 course list. Approved variation for the BE/ME when a course you have completed, e.g. CHEE3010, is equivalent to a course from the 2012 course lists, e.g. CHEE2010. This is normally the result of courses changing semester and course code. Approved variation for the BE/ME when a course you have completed, e.g. CIVL3130, is similar to a course from the 2012 course lists, e.g. CHEE2003. Approved exemption for the BE/ME when a course from the 2012 course lists is not covered by anything you have completed and cannot be done before graduating, e.g. CHEM2056. The course you have completed, e.g. CIVL2210, is not equivalent to this course but an exemption, e.g. for CHEM2056, is allowed for the transition.

NOTES: 1. The course tables were correct at the start of 2012, things may change so check the course lists on the courses and programs website in conjunction with this document before making decisions. 2. Entry into the BE/ME is at the end of 3rd year and requires a weighted (by year level) average GPA greater than 5 as per the rules for the BE/ME. 3. BE/ME course lists only cover years 4 and 5. The courses for the first three years come from the BE course list as described in the BE/ME rules.
