Judging Criteria 2hee& to 2hawl means =ust that. a shawl 'reated from the wool shorn from a shee&, s&un into yarn and woven into the finished garment" ;a'h team is 'om&rised of a shearer, three s&inners, a 'arder and a weaver" The =udging is bro/en down into the following 'ategories: 2hearing: The shearer is =udged on even shearing, uniformity, and la'/ of se'ond 'uts Jshorter lengths of woolK" Flee'e: Cleanliness, 'ondition of flee'e, luster and 'rim&" 2&inning: 2&inners are =udged on their individual s&inning as well as how their s&inning relates to the design of the shawl" The members try to s&in very evenly to &rodu'e a uniform team &rodu't" #eaving: The =udges will loo/ for evenness in the weaving, 'he'/ing 'losely for errors" The selvage edges are e<amined for evenness and la'/ of &ull.in" The finished shawl must measure at least DD in'hes wide and 7C in'hes long or &oints are dedu'ted from the s'ore" Aesign: The design and a&&earan'e of the finished shawl 'ounts for a large &er'entage of ea'h team1s s'ore" Judges loo/ for originality in design, diffi'ulty of weave, 'olor 'oordination between war& and weft, softness and 0dra&e. ability4, and e<e'ution of the finished fringe" 2&eed: The teams are awarded a bonus for finishing their shawl first, se'ond, third, et'" 2&eed 'ombined with -uality is the goal of ea'h team"

For this year1s 2hee& to 2hawl 'om&etition, our team has been ins&ired by the wor/ of Jason Pollo'/, s&e'ifi'ally, a &ainting entitled 0@o"1C, 198E4" Pollo'/ wor/ed on 'anvas that was stret'hed out on the floor rather than on an easel, dri&&ing and s&lashing the &aint to 'reate his art" The war& for our shawl was dyed using this same method, and the 0'rammed and s&a'ed4 weave stru'ture refle'ts the ebb and flow of Pollo'/1s wor/" Hur war& is hands&un (order )ei'ester and the weft will be &rovided, on'e again, by Aonovan, a three year old CB*+)in'oln 'ross wether, bred by )ydia Pi&er of $urdy %un Farm in Lalifa<, P "
