Guidewire representatives report that changes affecting the company are driven by customer demands for new products and services, industry changes (i.e., changes in technologies and available architectures), and expansion into new markets worldwide. Guidewires clients need to automate to provide their customers with new platforms (i.e, self-service and real-time transactions) that will help the client/insurer compete for business, and improve quality and customer service. Guidewires focus is on customer retention and growth through improved service, new products, and technology investments. To better deal with changes, Guidewire is requesting ETP funding to train 170 current employees and 37 newly-hired employees. To remain competitive and grow, Guidewire is building applications and using new technologies. As Guidewire acquires customers, it must maintain high standards throughout its partner network, vendor network and customer base. Training Plan Training is scheduled to begin in June 2013 and be delivered using class/laboratory, e-learning, and computer-based training methods. Training will be provided primarily by in-house staff. Training vendors will be used for situations where in-house staff doesnt have the necessary expertise. Business Skills training will be offered to all occupations to enable them to better meet customer requirements and implement the companys business strategies. Computer Skills training will be offered to all occupations to help boost productivity levels and overall operating efficiency by enabling them to work with new systems. Continuous Improvement training will be offered to all occupations to enable staff to be highly effective in team environments; and improve the companys leadership and change management capabilities. Advanced Technology Guidewire requests the Advance Technology (AT) rate of $26 per hour. AT training is highly technical. Trainees will be from the Information Technology Staff, Product Development, and Engineering. The training necessary for these advanced skills requires the use of costly subject-matter-expert vendors, or the time of highly skilled internal trainers/internal subjectmatter experts. Depending on the types of systems involved and the subject matter expertise required, AT training costs range from $104 to $187 per hour, per trainee. The trainer-to-trainee ratio is 1:10 for AT, to allow in-depth coverage and personal attention from the instructor. Retrainee - Job Creation The Panel offers incentives to companies that commit to hiring new employees. Training for newly hired employees is reimbursed at a higher rate and trainees are subject to a lower postretention wage. To be eligible for reimbursement, the trainees must be hired within the threemonth period prior to Panel approval or during the term of contract. Guidewire has committed to hiring 37 new employees (Job Number 2).
