MATERIALS Color 1 (C1) approx. 230 yards / 210 meters DK weight yarn Color 2 (C2) approx. 230 yards / 210 meters DK weight yarn Sample knit with Orange Flower 50/50 SW Merino/Silk DK - 230 yards/100 grams, in Greyed Gold and Cosmic Blue. GAUGE 18 stitches and 24 rows to 4 inches - unblocked stockinette stitch NEEDLES US #7 / 4.5mm or #8 / 5mm - 16 in / 40cm circular needle Choose a needle one or two sizes larger than you would typically use for DK weight yarn in order to ensure a fabric with drape. TOOLS Waste yarn Crochet hook for provisional cast on Stitch marker Additional circular needle Tapestry needle DIMENSIONS Cowl is a continuous loop that is approximately 9.5 inches wide with a circumference of 30 inches, unblocked. NOTES Dont cut the yarn after each stripe! Carry the non-working yarn up the work. FINISHING Remove waste yarn from cast on edge by pulling out each provisional chain and putting each live stitch onto the spare circular needle. Next, carefully line up the ends of the cowl and make sure that the work is not twisted. Cut C2, leaving a long tail that is approximately 4 times the diameter of the cowl. Using a tapestry needle, graft together the live stitches using Kitchener Stitch see RESOURCES section. You are working with a tube, so it may seem a little tricky at first just take your time and slowly work your way around the tube. Weave in ends. Wet or steam block, if desired.

MODIFICATIONS Note that some of the following options will require more yarn than originally called for in pattern. Cast on fewer stitches and knit more stripes to create a longer cowl that can be doubled up around the neck. Use finer yarn for a more delicate fabric. Use more than 2 colors. Use a single color and substitute texture, such as seed stitch, for the alternating stripe sections.

INSTRUCTIONS see charted version on page 2

Using waste yarn and crochet hook, make 88 chains on the knitting needle. See RESOURCES section for a link to a video tutorial. First Half of Cowl: Set up rounds Using C1, knit the 88 provisional cast on chains. Place marker and knit a round with C1. You now have a total of 2 rounds of C1 on the needle and are ready to begin the First Half Pattern Repeat.
