SECTION 7 TOXICOLOGICAL PROPERTIES Skin Contact Skin Absorption Eye Contact Ingestion Inhalation (Acute and chronic) No effect No effect No long-term effect other than dust discomfort No effect Respiratory diseases may develop such as silicosis, pneumoconiosis and pulmonary fibrosis. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified Crystalline Silica as Group 1. The Agency states there is sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in humans. Reference: IARC Monograph 68. Crystalline Quartz TLV-TWA = 0.1 mg/cubic M (respirable dust) Indices for 1987 1988 American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists.

Exposure Limits ACGIH TLV:

NIOSH has recommended that the permissible exposure limit should be changed to 50 micrograms respirable free silica per cubic meter of air (50mg/cubic M) averaged over a work shift of up to 10 hours per day, 40 hours per week. The NIOSH Criteria Document for Crystalline Silica should be consulted for more detailed information.

SECTION 8 PREVENTIVE MEASURES Use local exhaust to control dust dispersion. For respiratory protection, use an air supplied respirator or other conventional particulate respiratory protection based on considerations of airborne concentrations and duration of exposure. For more information, consult the following standards: 1. American National Standard Institute (ANSI 2.88.2) 2. Occupational Health & Safety Act General Safety Regulations, 448/83 Section 95 3. Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA 30CFR Part 56) Safety glasses should be worn to prevent dust in eyes. In case of spill, vacuum spillage and dispose of waste in containers or slurry to avoid re-dispersion. Store in silos or bags

SECTION 9 FIRST AID MEASURES Eye Contact Inhalation A water wash will remove particles. Remove from contaminated area. If shortness of breath or other breathing problems persist, consult a physician.
