FWP hosting public meetings

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks has scheduled four public meetings along the Hi-Line in January to discuss tentative hunting regulations for the next two years. A total of 43 of the public gatherings are scheduled across the state. In FWP Region 6, the meetings will take place as follows. Each will run from 7-9 p.m. Jan. 9, Sheridan County Library Jubilee Room, Plentywood; Jan. 14, Malta High School Cafeteria, Malta; Tuesday, Jan. 21, Valley County Courthouse Community Room, Glasgow; Jan. 23, Best Western Great Northern Inn, Havre. At the meetings, FWP will present proposals to aid the recovery of Montanas declining deer populations by reducing opportunities to harvest antlerless mule deer and white-tailed deer. Wildlife managers believe that Montanas deer numbers are in decline statewide due to a number of unique circumstances from the cyclical nature of mule deer populations to predation to disease, drought and tough winter conditions. For the next two hunting seasons, with a few exceptions to address game damage issues, FWP proposes to: Restrict general mule deer seasons to antlered-only. Eliminate most mule deer B, or antlerless, licenses. Eliminate white-tailed deer B licenses in most of central and northeastern Montana. Details on the proposed hunting regulations are available on FWPs website at fwp.mt.gov by clicking on the 2014-2015 Hunting Proposals section. The proposals encompass hunting season dates and nearly every huntable species in the state, including antelope, black bear, bighorn sheep, bison, deer, elk, moose, mountain goat, mountain lion, and a variety of upland game birds. Comments may be submitted at the local meetings or online at fwp.mt.gov. For questions not covered on the website, call 406-444-2612. Written comments may be sent to: FWP Wildlife Bureau Attn: Public Comment P.O. Box 200701 Helena, MT 59620-0701 Comments are due by 5 p.m. on Jan. 24, 2014. The Montana Fish & Wildlife Commission will take all comments into consideration and adopt final regulations in February.

NEW SAVINGS!
Family Pack Beef Pork Shoulder

NEW YEAR,

The first major winter storm of 2014 brought snow, stiff winds and frigid temperatures to much of the Northeast, with states of emergency being declared in New York and New Jersey and airlines canceling thousands of flights nationwide. A friend from Boston said that since early this morning the snow is nearly waist high and is still falling. She says that the temperature is dropping far below zero and the north winds are increasing to near gale force. Her husband has done nothing but look through the kitchen window and stare in disbelief. In fact, she says that if it gets much worse, she may have to let the drunken ol coot back inside.

Exclusive one-of-a-kind horse property with over 5,000 sq. ft. of living space; includes 5 bedrooms, 3 full 2 half baths, 3 car attached & heated garage, 2 fireplaces, 38 foot lap pool and recreation center. 760 sq. ft. gourmet kitchen with soaring vaulted ceiling. Citing its strong character and imperial heritage, a report from the local gentry confirmed Tuesday that when considering a name for ones son, one could do little better than Fritz, for it is truly a fine, fine name for a boy. Fritz is an excellent name for a young boy; a strong name; a virile name, said local patriarch Karl SchnburgGraetz, adding that any strapping young chap would be blessed to bear a Christian moniker with a pedigree as fine as Fritz. For centuries, noble young boys have been named Fritz, and whyever not? It is a fine name, ideally suited to any firstborn son, such as my own, who is thusly called. Schnburg-Graetz went on to add that, as far as names for a boy are concerned, Felix would simply not do.

****OPEN NEW YEARS EVE***

The evolution of musical gadgets

These mid-week Holidays really threw me for a loop. Id be sitting there drinking my morning coffee, thinking it was Sunday, but no........it was Christmas, then the following week New Years........but it still felt like Sunday, so in the last couple of weeks Ive had four Sundays, but only two Saturdays.........that just doesnt seem fair.... and here it is Friday......Ill get another Saturday after all, and Im just unwinding from said Holidays listening to some CDs I received for Christmas. Folks seem to know how much I like music.......sure glad they dont think I like fruit cake. On about the third CD I started reminiscing about the music Ive enjoyed over the years, and how its delivery has changed. As a kid it was radio, in those days that was a really big deal. There was no such thing as TV, but there was a whole world waiting for you on the radio. The Lone Ranger, every Wednesday night, The Shadow, Fibber Magee and Molly, the list is pretty much endless, and of course the music. One of the first Big Hits I remember is How Much is that Doggie in the Window. Just thinking about it makes the words run through my head........the one with the... Tennessee Waltz.......... When I got a little older, I could buy records. 78s were by then being replaced by 45s........a little easier to carry around, but not much. Your music kind of had you stuck wherever your music was. You could always grab a pile and go to a friends house but then you were stuck there. Car radios were good, but you couldnt always find a station playing what you wanted to hear. Then came the eight track. WOW!! I thought that was the end all.......it was pretty portable. Pop it in your Stereo at home or in the car, crank it up to volume ten.......... now we were getting somewhere.........but you still had a problem with selection........getting to that one or two cuts you really wanted to hear..........the cassette came along, and portability increased ten fold...........selection was horrible........fast-forward, rewind, start, stop, eject...........I had ten thousand eight hundred and sixty two cassettes, and I got to the point I hated them. With the advent of the CD I became convinced the music industry was involved in a conspiracy to drain me of every last dime I had. Now I had to buy a CD player, a new car with a CD player, one of those walk-about things that would play about a CD and a half before you needed to put in new batteries.........oh......and you had to buy the

CDs. Once youd spent a small fortune, your portability was outstanding, you could pick out any cut you wanted, life was good. WAS being the key word here. Taped t o the top of one of my CDs, was this little thing....... so I called the friend who had gifted me and inquired as to what this little thing was......... a memory stick he replied........ and he proceeded to explain how it held your MP3s and the gadgets you could play it in and on......I was just about ready to tell him where he could stick his stick.........when I breathed a sigh of relief. The one thing he had touted was a device you plug into a power outlet (formerly called a cigarette lighter) in your vehicle, then plug your memory stick into that, and you can hear thousands of songs on an FM station that the player selects........amazing. I breathed a sigh of relief because I was not going to fall for this new trap laid down by the music industry.......... not me........not this time. My primary vehicle has quite a few years on it, multiply those years by hundreds of miles, and youve got a pretty much wore out mode of transportation. It came with and AM/FM 42 speaker stereo system..........that hasnt worked in years..........Im free. ~ Hugh Morris
