Parker? If, as you say, your master has been murdered is when Parker first found out that his master had been killed and he took it by surprise (Christie, 1926 pg. 45). In the story, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, the local inspector tries to solve the mystery but later Flora Ackroyd asks a world famous detective, Hercule Poirot to join and take on the task of solving this murder. How would it alter the plot if he had come in earlier? The detective would alter the plot by noticing how others first react, noticing the physical evidence of the scene, and already knowing the scenario with having previous observations. The detective in 1926 would alter the storys plot by noticing how everyone first reacts to finding out about the death of Roger Ackroyd. If Poirot had come in the story, then he would have been able to notice Parkers nervous manner and showing physical evidence to be taken as a suspect. Parker was noticed sweating, stuttering, and heavily breathing when first finding out that his master has been murdered and while being interrogated (Christie, 1926). A detective would have noted how Miss Flora Ackroyd reacted when she had just found out that her Uncle Roger was killed. A detective would have realized how Dr. Sheppard hesitated to share information about a mysterious man he passed coming out of the house initially, who later the reader finds out is Kent, and made it seem like he is suspicious (Christie, 1926). Detective must not only notice the emotional evidence/reactions, but also the physical evidence too. A detective would alter the plot of a story by noting the physical evidence, especially the evidence in the study. He would have noticed about the chair being moved (Christie, 1926). If the detective had been present from the start, then it would have been easier for him to investigate because he would see everything just the way it was. There would not have everything moved (Christie, 1926). In Chapter 6, if Poirot was in the plot then he would have been able to notice multiple details about the phone call, the silver tableeven though when he asked, he got answers (Christie, 1926). If the detective was there at that time, then he would be able to configure and confirm everyones alibis. He would have been able to configure the alibis faster and come up with theories like his reasoning and starting to figure out the crime, then concluding with the result. Since the detective has to notice both emotional and physical evidence involving the crime, and in this casewasting time is unwanted. The detective would alter the plot by not having to spend time catching up on what happened right after the crime. If the detective was in the plot earlier then he would not spend time catching but have more time to investigate. If the detective was in the plot earlier then he wouldnt have had to have Dr. Sheppard explain to him and try to trick Poirot into thinking it wasnt him. (Christie, 1926) Poirot would not have had to have trusted Dr. Sheppard so much and it would have been more efficient. If Poirot had been in the plot earlier, he might not have trusted Dr. Sheppard as much, and may have realized that Dr. Sheppard was guiltier than he claimed to be in the beginning. (Christie, 1926) If a detective was in the plot all along or earlier then the story would be more efficient, and so would the crime; the detective would also be able to understand the plot better. The detective would alter the plot by not having to spend time catching up. Not wasting time to catch up on what happened but being able to use that time to investigate. If a detective was in the story earlier then the investigation would have been more effective and he would not have had such a great risk to being misled as easily, the detective would have been able to understand more and even though he was very well at what he does, there is an increase in menace.
