Turner Syndrome

Symptoms Patients with Turner Syndrome could have: Swollen hands and feet, no period, short in height, puberty being delayed and infertility, webbed neck and a small chin. Diagnosis Turner Syndrome can be seen before birth by prenatal testing, doctors can do tests like MRIs of the chest, ultrasound of the reproductive system, and blood hormone levels testing. Diagnostic tests can be preformed at any age. Genetics In females there are usually two sex chromosomes XX but people with Turner Syndrome have one sex chromosome X or two XX, but one X is incomplete. People with Turner Syndrome are neither male nor female since there is no Y chromosome present and only one X. They usually develop as a female because only the X chromosome is present. People who have turner syndrome usually are categorized as Monosomy. Turners Syndrome is a dominate heredity disorder because only one abnormal gene needs to be present for a disorder. You can receive Turner Syndrome from both mom or dad.

Treatment Patients can have a growth hormone to help growth, estrogen can help puberty start, and adult women can have a donor egg to become pregnant.

Prevention There is no known prevention from getting Turner Syndrome but some of its symptoms can still be treated.
