Gestamp Solar inaugurates a photovoltaic plant in Puerto Rico

Madrid, January the 2nd, 2014. Gestamp Solar, the photovoltaic energy division of Gestamp Renewables (Corporacin Gestamp), opened a photovoltaic plant in Puerto Ricos Conventions Center on December the 27th. This installation has 5 MW power, composed of over 17.000 solar panels installed over parking spaces at both sides of the Center, and another 2.000 located over the Centers ceiling. Gestamp Solar has invested over 20$ millions, creating 125 employees during the eight months of the construction and generating 25 permanent job positions for maintenance services. This plant will generate almost 8.000 MW/hour of solar energy every year, avoiding the emission of over 5.000 CO2 tons. This is the yearly electricity consumption of 725 homes. Alejandro Garca Padilla, Puerto Ricos Governor, participated in the inauguration. Victor Suarez, Seaports Authority Director, participated too, as well as other Puerto Ricos government authorities, which highlighted that the new photovoltaic system meant a new vision for Puerto Ricos energetic future. Pablo Otn, Gestam Solars Country Manager in North America added: this is the biggest photovoltaic parking shelters developed in Latin America and the Caribbean.
