answer the Judicial Candidate questionnaire, and NO the Count! or "tate Le#el questionnaire$% 1. Why are you seeking the endorsement from Stonewall Democrats of Dallas? Stonewall Democrats of Dallas is a diverse and highly influential group which is is one of the hallmarks of the Going (Lisa Green campaign. ! wish to positively serve all people regardless of their race" gender" religion" or se#ual orientation. ! respectfully seek your endorsement $ecause of what you and ! stand for" which is e%uality and fairness towards anyone in all facets of life" and those who come into the courtroom. &. What are your plans to participate in a coordinated campaign in the general election? 'y plans include working within the Democratic party and utili(ing every resource that drives our community such as the educational institutions" i.e." Dallas !ndependent School District" charter schools" community colleges) *eligious community and their leaders and mem$ers" and youth advocacy groups such as the +oys and Girls ,lu$ of Greater Dallas" the +ig +rothers and Sisters and Girls !nc. ! will try to encourage campaign and financial involvement and ma#imi(e Democratic voter turnout. -. Will you use the Stonewall Democrats of Dallas endorsement in or on. a your we$site / yes $ your campaign literature and mailers / yes c your social media assets (0witter" 1ace$ook" etc. / yes d your campaign advertisements / yes 2. When elected" how will you recruit" retain" and create a friendly environment for LG+0 and LG+0/friendly staff? ! will ensure that the way ! communicate a$out a position 3 $oth internally and e#ternally 3 is to emphasi(e my commitment to diversity. ! will make the candidate pool as $road as possi$le from the $eginning" $y doing sufficient research to $reak

into other networks $esides my own. ! will invest time and resources through others in getting outside my usual networks $y asking e#isting employees for referrals and talking to community organi(ations to help find %ualified candidates. ! $elieve in people maintaining respect towards one another and this makes for a friendly staff. !t is important while maintaining professionalism" to have fun at what you do" and ! think that it is good when the 4udge does nice things for staff mem$ers like have court staff luncheons" especially around $irthday cele$rations" holidays" or 5ust $ecause. 0hese are things that really $ring staff closer together" and esta$lish a sense of connectedness and fosters a team spirit. 6. Would you $e willing to appoint a liaison to meet with the LG+0 community on a ongoing $asis? !f not" why? 7es $ecause it is important to me to continue the community ties with the LG+0 community" and to $e aware of concerns" updates" issues and volunteer opportunities. ! want to $e in the know with the community" and ! myself would love to come to more meetings. 8. 9nderstanding that administrative matters can take up a significant percentage of your work day" what are some ideas for policies or procedures that you think you can improve court operations for the court which you are seeking office? What are the most important policies or procedures you:ve identified as needing improvement? 0he most important procedures needing improvement in ,ounty ,riminal ,ourt 6. ! will hire a full time %ualified court coordinator from day 1. ,ounty ,riminal ,ourt 6 has not had one this entire term until presuma$ly this ;ovem$er. 0his has caused many administrative pro$lems in this ,ourt. ! wish to ma#imi(e efficiency in this court $y making sure this position is filled with someone who can do the 5o$. 0he ,ourt ,oordinator is the <heart$eat= of the ,ourt= who will make sure to keep up with the ,ourt calendar" making sure that indigent or 5ailed defendants are appointed attorneys right away" and take care of all administrative matters while the 4udge handles all matters in ,ourt. 0his has made this ,ourt inefficient $y not having a ,ourt ,oordinator. ! will put either one or two pu$lic defenders in the ,ourt. 0here are currently no pu$lic defenders in there and has not $een after the first si# months of the current 4udge>s tenure on the $ench. ?u$lic defenders along with court appointed attorneys make a difference when it comes to efficiency in the ,ourt. 0he current 4udge>s docket runs all day long to the point where people who deal with charges in this court have lost their 5o$s. !t is not right and it is not fair.

! will make sure to treat people fairly. 0he current 4udge in ,ounty ,riminal ,ourt 6 makes people pay their court cost and fines up front and are not allowed to $e on a payment plan. She makes them pay these fees $efore accepting their plea $argains. ! whole heartedly do not agree with this practice. 'any of these young people are 1@/&6 years old. 'any of them do not have the economic resources to do this and it causes a financial hardship on them and their families when she re%uires this. 'any of them are given court appointed attorneys" so if they are deemed indigent" this practice is unfair. 1irst" ! want to do what most if not all 4udges do" which is make sure that the first time young offender does not end up with a misdemeanor conviction. ! want to go further to make sure there is a young offender program for those young people who are <at risk= of committing more crimes leading to those of a more serious nature. ! want to esta$lish a program that serves as an intervention to prevent these <at risk= young offenders from ending up with a felony. 0hese young offenders in particular come from single parent households" are drop outs" victims of their own circumstances" homeless orAand have 5uvenile history. ! want to esta$lish a mentorAmentee program in connection with the group ! currently work with" +rother to +rother (a mentoring program for $oys $etween the ages of 8/1B years old . ! will monitor these young offenders closely while they are on pro$ation to make sure they are successful and to make sure they don>t end up with yet another conviction on their record. ! plan to have speakers from the +rother to +rother mentoring group and other leaders from the community who will volunteer and work with me to keep them on track and to have a positive influence in their lives. ! will make sure the mentally ill and those who have drug addictions are provided with the resources they need to $ecome productive citi(ens in the community. !t is important to me that this particular group is not recycled in and out of the 5ail system like they so often are. ! want to make sure resources are provided for these defendants $y having access to their mental health providers and a continuum of care so they can stay on track with the medication and receive help with housing" identification" etc.
