COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1. To teach the students the Principle behind the working of Digital Communication System
2. To enable the students to understand the Geometric representation of Signals.
3. To enable the students to classify various communication channels and model them.
4. To teach the students about the Baseband Formatting techniques of sampling, quantization and coding in
detail.
5. To enable the students to understand the various encoding techniques for Analog sources.
6. To educate the students the Baseband coding techniques for error control in encoding and decoding
7. To make the students to understand the Baseband reception techniques with various Receiving Filter types,
Detectors.
8. To enable the students to understand Eye pattern analysis, Sunchronisation, the Bandpass Signal
transmission and reception methods.
COURSE OUTCOMES:
i.
Students can understand the working principle of digital communication system.
ii.
Students will be able to derive the Basis set from the Signal set
iii.
Students can draw the signal space diagram for the given signal sets.
iv.
Students can classify the practical communication channel .
v.
Students will be able to understand the fundamental concepts behind digital transmission of analog sources
like sampling, quantization and coding
vi.
Students can design sampler, quantizers, encoders.
vii.
Students can design encoders using various block codes and convolutional codes to get the code words for
error free communication.
viii.
Students can analyse the received code word for erro occurrence and retrieve the original message.
ix.
Students will be able to understand the Baseband receiving filters, Detectors and Eye pattern Analysis.
x.
Students can understand the representation and spectral characteristics of various Bandpass modulation
methods and receiving filters .
