COMPANY PROFILE
BACKGROUND
We greatly value opportunities to work hand in hand with our clients from the
development of new ideas to the implementation phase by providing relevant
expertise and resources which will enable them to achieve their business objectives.
We embrace the fact that teamwork and empowerment leads to successful and
lasting spring of solutions. UMH consists of a team of vastly experienced, output
driven and enthusiastic team members with a combined experience of over 35
years in the management fields. Our team has worked in a variety of multicultural
organizations in South Africa and internationally within public and private sectors as
well as non profit driven organizations - NGO’s.
The team also has a network of specialists and associates in various fields to beef
up the professional range of services offered by UMH.
GOALS
• We set up accredited training centers in all 9 provinces and surrounding
offices.
• We train the people of the local community, skilled and unskilled.
• We provide life skills training for the community and social responsibility
programmes.
• We offer both theoretical and practical training to equip the community to
work in the local and provincial areas via selected corporate institutions. We
also apply the organizations code of conduct in their working environments to
make sure that they are ready to enter the workforce with all the basic
business skills like, telephone, filing, finance etc.
• We facilitate transparent and effective governance that will save cost and
promote support for community leaders with effective tools to showcase their
leadership, measuring feedback and progress to align and integrate
development plans set against realistic goals and feasible targets (as per
STATSSA – Labour Force Survey QLFS) 25 Nov 2008
• Through our technologies for instance, we offer banking accessibility to the
unbanked communities with minimum charges and in other instances no
charges at all.
• It is UMH’s commitment to plough back to the communities part of our profits
• Our business solutions don’t need beneficiaries to travel from rural areas to
cities in order to access services, we can provide, rather we bring services to
the communities wherever they are.
AIM
Our aim is creating employment and empowering individuals and community based
projects through shared services approach that will contribute to our
underprivileged communities. We bring the correct training and learning
interventions to address competency gaps within organisations and individuals. The
consultancy draws on a wide variety of experts in relevant fields to facilitate
UMH has the facilities, assessors, moderators and materials available that will suit
the community needs. Promote the sharing of knowledge, experiences, best
practices and support partnership among all the communities in South Africa.
Our ultimate reward is a model optimized to eradicate and carry Africa into a new
economy able to manage its scare resources to surpass the pitfalls of the 1st world
economies and live true the spirit of Ubuntu.
TRAINING PHILOSPHY
UMH introduced a robust curriculum which addresses key knowledge component.
The focus of the programmes is towards building a strong knowledge base on the
various components that enables an individual to function efficiently in his
environment. The competency framework is centered on the successful integration
of four phases that make up the knowledge components.
Each of these knowledge components are addressed during the training process by
developing skills that are directly related to the competencies required.

• Abet level 1-3
• Abet level 4 is done by means of an independent exam.

UMH strongly believes that corporate social responsibility forms part of the triple

implement sustainable projects and contribute overall to national, regional,

Umthombo-Moedi Foundation
Umthombo-Moedi Foundation is a section 21 company registered in 2007 under the
umbrella Company, Umthombo-Moedi Holdings(PTY) LTD. The company is
established with the purpose to contribute to the social-economic development of
the South African nation.
It is our belief that this intervention will impact on our youth in particular very
positively given that the country has been hard hit by young deaths due to
HIV/AIDS, high un-employment rates, high dropout rates in schools due to teenage
pregnancies and many more challenges.
The programmes will range from structures and modularized to informal and free
flowing.
The programs hope to highlight the capability of the young generation in impacting
the future of their nations. By providing a platform where they will be exposed to
issues affecting this nation and the new generation.
They will engage them in debates that will encourage them to participate in issues
affecting the future of our nation in particular the new generation.
Instill patriotism, giving back to their country and societies. Expose participants to
prisons, hospitals, rehab centers, shelters, hospice etc.
OBJECTIVE
The community banking platform enables rural communities to own a bank account
and use to make everyday living easier. Through our products Bank of Athens are
actively involved in helping with job creation, upliftment and poverty. Communities
gain the skills required to survive the 22nd Century. Umthombo designed the
products to take the bank to the people!
Our Vision is to bridge the gap between the traditional products offered by the main
stream banks and the financial services required by members of the second
economy. Our access points will be as mobile as the communities we serve and
bold enough to go where no bank has ventures before. Our products are priced at a
level that it is affordable yet sustainable. The supporting infrastructure will be
community driven so that each person has someone they can lean towards
assistance in their own language.
Our banking solution is in alignment with ANC IT strategic plan and objectives. We
give 30% of our Gross Profits back to the community. We also offer funeral cover,
disability, Airtime, Pre-paid Electricity services via your mobile handset to the
community.
SMS/MMS – The community can now receive information down the hierarchy
example; a daily bible scripture will be sent to all members in the community,
churches, schools etc.
CHAT- The community can chat via a FREE instant messaging service offered
/ designed by our IT experts.
Six hundred Eskom customers took part in the pilot. Ninety five percent of the
respondents that installed, registered and tried the system were able to submit their
monthly reading in seconds. Mobile meter reading systems saves time and money.
The system sends out a monthly text message reminder to subscribed ratepayers
when readings are due. The ratepayer enters the meter number on a cell phone
and sends the data to our server. Our server interacts with the customer in real-
time or at predefined intervals. The customer chooses to submit readings via SMS,
USSD or through a special user interface installed on his cellphone.
The Score Card system is hosted by us and configured to each individuals club’s
requirements. The Golf Club has no server hardware or IT resources requirement.
Once installed, the system will be accessible via Club intranet, IVR (Voice prompted
telephone system, where available), Club website can cellphone. To use the system
features members will simply access either of these channels or call the club to do it
on their behalf.
ScoreCard takes the pain out of Golf scoring and score card administration.
Members are able to use their cellphone to score their game. Each affiliated
member’s club handicap is automatically populated in the Scoring system to
prevent handicap fraud. When the game has been completed the scores are
electronically checked, signed, submitted and captured. Scores are available
instantly for score boards at tournaments and competitions. Handicaps are
instantly calculated and updated when a complete electronic score card is received.
Score card signing is completed through interactive SMS.
The Built-in “offline Browsing” feature offers the user access provider information
even when the device is not configured or not connected to the network. Support
telephone numbers, trouble shooting guides, FAQ’s are always handy.
A Feature rich user interface makes the software blend in with the company’s
corporate image. The solution is designed in such a way that using it is very simple
and intuitive. Detailed instructions are available on every menu.
Hosting facilities will be available as part of the VSP offering. BCS Group is a
platinum provider of Alcatel-Lucent: the largest telecommunication company in the
world. VOIP call centers’ can be implemented and maintained as well as automated
PABX systems.
BCS Group is also a gold partner for Microsoft etc. A total outsources solution can
be created for all the hardware and software requirements within the client.
PROFILES OF DIRECTORS
She has served as Chief Operations Officer for the African Access International
where she was involved in bringing overseas investments into South Africa.
She has conducted an advanced research in the Southern Africa especially post
independent politics. She is well traveled and has studied in the universities within
RSA viz. University of Zululand where she majored in education then, and
University of Natal then as well as abroad namely Edinburgh University where she
graduated in Masters in Education, Glasgow where she did doctrate and London
Institute of Education of University of London.
She was a member of a team of experts who contributed to the present educational
policies of the South African Government. She was a teacher for 13 years as well
worked as a researcher at University of Natal then. Also at their University, she
worked at Student support Services which was created to integrate Black students
in what was historically a Whites only institution.
On her return to South Africa she was a Chief Director in a government Training
Academy. She established and coordinated a youth training programme in a form of
learnerships which was meant to prepare them to be integrated into a state
Department. After this program these students became even more advanced
compared to the long serving members. In the above mentioned Cadet programme,
she had to recruit and select eligible youth throughout the country, compile the
training programme content, negotiate with other institutions which were
appropriate. Co-ordinate high profile presenters in order to expose youngsters to
these individuals.
Thoko Beverley Shomang is a Director Black Network Supplies PTY (Ltd) and
founder of Umthombo Moedi Foundation. She qualified as Teacher in Sekhukhuni
She has amassed wealth of knowledge over a period of twelve years in Foreign
Office of the Government of South Africa. Whilst employed in this office she held
different responsibilities, which entailed promoting political and economic relations
with foreign countries. She worked as diplomat in Lesotho. On her return she
managed different countries such as UK and Central Africa region.
She has also been involved in several community projects in the US and in South
Africa. She worked for different NGO’s such as the Women Development Foundation
in South Africa which was created to empower women in leadership roles. We ran
workshops to prepare women who were going to be in parliament. Thoko also
worked as a volunteer for different community organizations such as the Red Cross
in the US, dealing with HIV/AIDS and disaster management. Worked for Life Line in
the US where she was counselling people faced with different challenges suicide,
depression, physical abuse etc. Trained to work with children with down-syndrome
where she was giving family support to parents who are faced with children with
that condition. Also provided support to Orlando Home in Soweto South Africa.
She developed programs such as ABET, & mentoring students in their career. As a
hobby she did PC training in Soweto which part of the RDP program and social
upliftment program for PDI’s who never had the opportunity to be exposed in the
1980’s with technology such as Microsoft training and how to use the computer as a
tool to enhance their skills, like Excel etc.
She did her 1st year MBA at Henley in the UK. She started her own business in
Eskom (MWP Business & Communication PTY Ltd). While at Eskom she was head
hunted for Dell computers to head up government sector. She worked as National
sales manager for Bytes technology Group running Voice, data solutions in the
Telecoms arena. She then took up a job as country manager with Crystal Decisions /
She then worked at EOH/MIT for Mr. Lucky Khumalo in the outsourcing space
managing all the HP customers in the managed arena in Africa.
She is currently doing training in PDI / communities arena for the last 20 yrs. She
started her own company called MyMobie which is a Community Bank sponsored by
the bank of Athens. The objective of this bank is to take the banking to the
unbanked in South Africa. Her passion is to train the unskilled communities in SA
and also do skills upliftment and training as a career. She is very committed in
placing people that she trained back into the workforce & corporate environment to
make SA a better place. She has a good network of government business people
who she met along her career in the last 23 yrs being in the Information Technology
sector. She is currently an affiliate member of the (SAIM) South Africa institute for
Managers since 1994 as well as the international body for Service Managers (AFSM).
She believes that entrepreneurs are lifeblood of a growing and wealth creation.
Our approach is highly customized to each client’s situation and industry and
community requirements. 100% of the company is owned by African women, and
30% of GP of company proceeds channeled back to community projects.
