BCA Dicy 1 is finest grade of Dicyandiamide available. Because of its extremely fine particle size, BCA Dicy 1 will react more fully into epoxy systems, allowing a faster cure without sacrificing pot life. To inhibit clumping and improve flow, > 1% fumed silica is used. Typically used with epoxy resins (EEW 190) between 6 - 8phr, the reactivity of dicyandiamide increases inversely proportional to the particle size. Accelerators that have minimal effect on latency while decreasing the activation temperature to less than 100OC can be used to improve processing properties. Some suggested accelerators for BCA Dicy 1 include BCA I Adduct any of the substituted ureas, including BCA MDU or BCA TDU. These accelerators will decrease the activation temperature of dicyandiamide, without compromising, and perhaps enhancing performance properties. BCA Dicy 5 is one of the finer of several pulverized grades of dicyandiamide containing more than 1% fumed silica as a flow control agent to inhibit clumping and improve flow. Typically used with epoxy resins (EEW 190) between 6 - 8phr, the reactivity of dicyandiamide increases inversely proportional to the particle size, making D-5 faster and more exothermic than D-10 or D-44. Additionally, dicyandiamide tends to react with epoxies at higher temperatures, > 180OC, unless an accelerator is used. Accelerators that have minimal effect on latency while decreasing the activation temperature to less than 100OC can be used. Some suggested accelerators for BCA Dicy 5 include BCA I Adduct, any of the substituted ureas, including BCA MDU or BCA TDU. These accelerators will decrease the activation temperature of D-5, without compromising, and perhaps enhancing performance properties. BCA Dicy 10 is one of the more common of several pulverized grades of dicyandiamide containing 1% fumed silica as a flow control agent to inhibit clumping and improve flow. BCA Dicy 10 can also be ordered without a flow control agent or with different levels of a flow control agent, as necessary. Typically used with epoxy resins (EEW 190) between 6 - 8phr, the reactivity of dicyandiamide increases inversely proportional to the particle size. Additionally, dicyandiamide tends to react with epoxies at higher temperatures, >180OC, unless an accelerator is used. Accelerators that have minimal effect on latency while decreasing the activation temperature to less than 100OC can be used. Some suggested accelerators for BCA Dicy 10 include BCA I Adduct, any of the substituted ureas, including BCA MDU, BCA TDU. These accelerators will decrease the activation temperature of dicyandiamide, without compromising, and perhaps enhancing performance properties. BCA Dicy 44 is one of several pulverized grades of dicyandiamide containing more than 1% fumed silica as a flow control agent to inhibit clumping and improve flow. Typically used with epoxy resins (EEW 190) between 6 - 8 phr, the reactivity of dicyandiamide increases inversely proportional to the particle size so Dicy 44 would exhibit a lower exotherm than the finer dicyandiamide grades. Additionally, dicyandiamide tends to react with epoxies at higher temperatures, >180OC, unless an accelerator is used.

Accelerators that have minimal effect on latency while decreasing the activation temperature to less than 100OC can be used. Some suggested accelerators for Dicy 44 include BCA I80 Adduct, BCA I100 Adduct or any of the substituted ureas, including BCA MDU, BCA PDU or BCA TDU. These accelerators will decrease the activation temperature of Dicy 44, without compromising, and perhaps enhancing performance properties. BCA I80 Adduct is an imidazole containing, epoxy amine adduct designed for one part epoxy systems where a long pot life and a fast cure are required. BCA I80 Adduct can be used as a curing agent or as an accelerator for dicyandiamide, anhydrides, DDS or other imidazoles, decreasing the cure temperature, while maintaining a long pot life. BCA I80 Adduct can be used with epoxies for surface mount adhesives and glob tops, induction cured hemming adhesives, as an accelerator for solder masks, as a curative for room temperature stable, low temperature cure, prepregs and composites as well as an accelerator for powder coatings. BCA I100 Adduct, in an epoxy amine adduct ground to about an 8 micron particle size for easy dispersion and to avoid settling. When added to either liquid or solid epoxy resins such as Bisphenol A type or epoxy Novolacs BCA I100 Adduct displays a pot life of over six months at room temperature and can be cured as low as 100OC. When used as an accelerator for low viscosity systems, such as epoxy / acid anhydrides, BCA I100 Adduct cures at roughly the same speed as other tertiary amines, such as BDMA, but exhibits pot lives of over 8 weeks at room temperature. This aspect of BCA I100 Adduct makes it ideal for vacuum impregnation, filament winding, and composites tooling. When used as a curing agent, lap shears of over 4000 psi can be attained. BCA I100 Adduct can be combined with BCA I80 Adduct to attain a synergistic effect, improving pot life and reducing the temperature of cure. BCA MDU is an aromatic substituted urea based accelerator 4,4 Methylene bis (Phenyl Dimethyl Urea) for use as an accelerator for dicyandiamide (DICY) to produce highly shelf-stable one-part systems. BCA MDU is an excellent accelerator for adhesives, powder coatings, prepregs and reinforcements. At levels of 5phr full cure can be accomplished in less than and hour at 100OC and less than 5 minutes at 150OC when used with approximately 8 phr of DICY and bisphenol A epoxy resin, EEW 190. Room temperature shelf life of resins compounded with BCA MDU for stable for well over 6 months. BCA TDU is an aromatic substituted urea based accelerator [1,1'-(4 methyl-m-phenylene) bis(3,3 dimethyl urea)] for use as an accelerator for dicyandiamide (DICY) to produce shelf-stable one-part systems. BCA TDU is an excellent accelerator for adhesives, powder coatings, prepregs, films and reinforcements. At levels of 3phr, gel times of less than 8 minutes at 120OC and less than 5 minutes at 150OC when used with approximately 8 phr of DICY and bisphenol A epoxy resin, EEW 190. DSC onset is 122OC Tgs approaching 120 are easily obtained.

BCA PDU is a substituted urea for use as an accelerator for dicyandiamide (DICY) to produce shelfstable one-part systems, combining excellent latency at ambient temperature and rapid cure. BCA PDU is an excellent accelerator for adhesives, powder coatings, prepregs and reinforcements. At levels of 4 phr full cure can be accomplished in 50 minutes at 130OC and less than 5 minutes at 175OC when used with approximately 8 phr of DICY and bisphenol A epoxy resin, EEW 190. Room temperature shelf life of resins compounded with BCA PDU for stable for well over 4 months. BCA ADH is commonly used with epoxy resins in single component systems where cure above 120OC, good adhesion to oily metal and good toughness are required. When a faster cure is needed, BCA ADH can also be accelerated resulting in a "snap cure" system. Some suggested accelerators for BCA ADH include BCA I Adduct, and any of the substituted ureas, including BCA MDU or BCA TDU. These accelerators will decrease the activation temperature of BCA ADH, without compromising, and perhaps enhancing performance properties. BCA ADH can also be used as a curative for acrylics and urethanes, by Michael Addition, especially with its water solubility, > 50%, BCA ADH can be used as a water-phase crosslinker in water dispersed urethanes and acrylics, not to mention as part of the polymer backbone. BCA IDH, Isophthalic Dihydrazide, a benzyl backboned dihydrazide, is commonly used with epoxy resins in single component systems where cure above 160OC, and high Tg's as well as acid resistance are required.
