Jack Greenfield Retrospective
The public is invited to attend a reception Saturday January 11 from 7-9 pm at the Southern Arts Society for Jack Greenfields retrospective exhibit of watercolors. Jack paints in a realistic style similar to Andrew Wyeth. You may recognize local scenery along with well-known travel destinations around the country in his paintings. Jack is a member of the Blue Ridge Realists, a group of painters that includes Bob Timberlake. In 1968, an artistic movement developed in western North Carolina based on rural realism, inspired by man and his connection to the regional landscape. Cofounders of the movement, Bob Timberlake and Ward Nichols, along with Cotton Ketchie and Jack Greenfield, make up its first generation of artists. The second generation of artists is Philip Philbeck, John Furches, Gary Freeman, Richard Oversmith, Scott Boyle, and Frederick Craig Franz, making the ten painters who represent a school of artists known as the Blue Ridge Realists. This is Jacks third one man show at the Art Center. Jack lives in Kings Mountain, North Carolina with his wife the former Helen Lancaster. The exhibit runs January 7 thru January 31.

In Sympathy
It is with great sadness that we tell you of the death of SASI member Cindy Hovis. Cindy died suddenly on November 15. Cindy was a creative person, artist, jeweler and Master Gardner. Cindy transplanted many of her own plants into our garden here at the depot. She took great care in the weeding and pruning of our garden. We will miss her enthusiasm and bright face.
