NAGA 1 was jointly designed by Japan Drilling Co., Ltd. and

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries after performance studies conducted in
arduous conditions in the Sea of Japan and commissioned in July
1974 at MHIs Hiroshima shipyard. Built to the standards of IMO
MODU code A414 and complying with the 1974/83 SOLAS
amendments, NAGA 1 meets the demands of the offshore drilling
industry by incorporating a high degree of stability in order to safely
and continuously operate in hostile ocean environments.

While accommodating a gross variable load of 5,370 tonnes the rig

can operate in water depths of up to 1,000 ft and drill to a total depth
of 30,000 ft.
One of the lower hull tanks was modified as a base oil storage of
3,132 bbls in January 2000.
Deepdish Conversion work, major upgrade of drilling equipment and
general maintenance work were completed on October 2012.
