Chemical Nature Polyacrylate in water. Physical form Brownish/Viscous liquid. Storage In sealed containers, Size CB can be stored for 12 months with no noticeable change in its properties at a temperature of 5 o C to 40 o C.
Partly used containers should be kept tightly closed. Properties pH Approximately 6.0-7.0 (100 g/l at 20 o C). Density Approximately 1.09 g/dm 3 at 20 o C. Viscosity 1000-1500 mPas. of15% aqueous solution. (Brookfield RVT, sp 4/100 rpm -1) Solubility Size CB is miscible in all proportions on stirring with cold or hot water. Solutions of Size CB do not form a skin and are very stable if stored in clean, sealed containers. Stability Solutions of Size CB have adequate stability to water hardening substances.
However, the product may form barely-soluble precipitates in the presence of acids, polyvalent metal ions, e.g. copper, aluminum, zinc and iron ions and with cationic substances.
Compatibility Size CB has good compatibility with alkalis.
Size CB is not compatible with Size CE or Size CO.

Ecological Information Size CB is largely eliminable from water by abiotic processes such as adsorption on activated sludge. Further data, including the COD value, are given in the current Safety Data Sheet.
Action When it dries, Size CB forms a strong, tough film, which has excellent adhesion to cellulosic fibres and to polyester/cellulosic fibre blends.
The high adhesive power of the product results in an excellent sizing effect and weaving performance.
Warps that have been correctly sized with Size CB give excellent results, which meet the highest requirements, on all types of weaving machines normally employed for staple fibres.
Washing-out Properties Size CB can be readily washed out.
If Size CB is employed in combination with a starch, the desizing conditions depend on the properties of the starch products employed.
Application Size CB can be used without any further additives for sizing spun rayon warps, doubled warps and certain cotton yarns, e.g. for terry cloth or surgical fabrics.
All that is necessary is to stir the size into the water until the solution is homogenous. The sizing liquor is then ready for use. It can be applied at room temperature or 80-90 oC. The size concentration of the liquor is measured with refractometer. When Size CB is applied alone, the relative humidity of the air in the weaving department should not exceed 70% at 22 oC (=13.6 g water per m3 air) of cf. diagram

Size CB and Starch Size CB can be applied in combination with all types of starches. Depending on the weaving requirements and on the climatic conditions in the weaving department, the ratio of Size CB to starch can be varied from 2:1 to 1:3.
The liquor concentration also with such combination sizes naturally depends on the type of yarn to size and on the mechanical conditions.
To improve the processing characteristics and flow properties of natural starches, it is advisable to degrade them to certain extent, e.g. with Size Degrading Agent SC. This product breaks down the long chain molecules of vegetable starches and thus lowers the viscosity of the sizing liquor.
The following diagrams show the amounts of Size Degrading Agent SC that are recommended for combinations of the most important natural starches (potato and maize starch) with Size CB in the usual proportions of 1:2, 1:1 and 2:1.
