1. Schaie called the young adult stage of cognitive development the achievement stage, needing to learn and successfully use your abilities. The responsibility stage (concerned with real-life problems, in charge of self and others) occurs in middle adulthood. For some middle adults, Schaie identified the executive substage (responsible for major corporations, the country). 2. Partner is parents are the same gender and cohabitation is when couples who live together with their children but remain unmarried. 3. The first is economic independence, which usually happens when a person is employed fulltime. Many young people in college or technical education programs cannot reach this milestone until later. The second is independent decision making. 4. Risky behaviors such as chemical abuse, overeating, inadequate sleep, and inactive lifestyle, and sexual promiscuity. Stress-related illnesses are headaches, gastric ulcers, and hypertension. Early diseases can also occur such as cancer, hypertension, or tuberculosis. 5. Continuing education is proven to help young adults learn more about themselves and the world. 6. The positives are that single people can be independent with their time and money; they dont have to be concerned about a partners ideas or desires. However, they have no one to depend on when troubles occur. They have to be responsible for their own decisions. Many single adults report that they are often lonely. 7. Some areas have developed Early Childhood and Family Education (ECFE) programs through schools pr community organizations where young adults cans hare concerns and learn about stressful parenting. 8. Body weight, men commonly adds inches around their waist as fat increases to 30%. Womens body fat increase about 40% and is often added to the hips and thighs. One common occurrence is Presbyopia which is decreased flexibility of the eye lens. Prebycusis which is loss of hearing is also common, begins in early adulthood. Middle aged people often experience grey hairs and thinning of the scalp. Also, the decrease in estrogen production causes menstrual changes and eventually menopause. 9. Relationships with others remain the focus of psychosocial development. Marriage, extended family, and friendships are valued. 10. Sandwich generation is when dependent children are home, and dependent elders need care.
