Members of the public will be able to inspect the National Register of Voters at display centers across Fiji from the 19th until the 24th of December. The Acting Permanent Secretary Responsible for Elections, Mohammed Saneem, said that Fijians who have registered to vote are encouraged to visit one of these centers to check their voter details. We want to make sure the Register contains the correct and most up-todate information so that we can assign individuals to the appropriate polling station, he said. The Permanent Secretary also said
that any eligible Fijians who have not yet registered to vote would be able to register at any one of these display centers. The Permanent Secretary added that after this period the National Register would be available in permanent locations across Fiji. He said that soon the Elections Office would be taking the Register on a tour around Fijis rural and maritime communities. The locations and opening hours of the display centers will be advertised in the Fiji Sun and on the Elections Office Website.

FIJIANS living illegally overseas can also register to vote in next year's elections. This was confirmed by Attorney- General and Minister Responsible for Elections Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum this week. Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the registering team would focus on registering Fijians living in Australia because many Fijians lived there. He said they hoped to start registering Fijians living overseas from next year. "Someone asked me if we would register over-stayers, yes, of course as far as we are concerned, they are Fijian citizens," Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said. "Whatever their immigration status is in the country where they are living in at the moment that's not our issue, as long as they are Fijian citizens we will register them. "So Australia is the big one and we have obviously learnt from the experience in
New Zealand. "There may be an opportunity to go back to New Zealand to register some people who may have missed out." He said people living overseas would have to first showed their interest by using the website set up by the elections line ministry. The A-G said when Fijians, including over-stayers, show their interest in the website, it would help the elections office in terms of planning. "You have to ensure that the registration process is completely creditable, otherwise you may have somebody sitting in Sydney and registering 100 people who don't exist, so that's equally important," he said. "And as you know some people do get to those kinds of activities if given the opportunity." The voter roll is accessible to members of the public.

A man who fatally stabbed Auckland teenager Christie Marceau has been denied parole. Akshay Anand Chand, 21, was jailed last year on charges of kidnap, assault and threatening to kill, but was found not guilty of murder by reasons of insanity. He has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, and the Parole Board ruled it was "clear cannot be considered for release" as he remains an "undue risk to the safety of the community". In a decision released, the board said an updated psychiatric report stated Chand now has a "well-established diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia which is currently stable due to medication". "He is seen as compliant and attending all unit groups but is seen to have a lack of motivation to do anything beyond what is asked of him or to work to identify his treatment needs," the board said. "He has been encouraged by staff to explore things relating to his risk to society, his status as an insanity acquittee as well as a prisoner and the psychological factors that may have contributed to his offending. He will continue to work with a psychologist on these things in the future." The board also noted that while Chand
is seen to have made a "significant recovery in terms of the positive symptoms of his illness", it was concerned that he was not symptom free, and that he was in the very early stages of "understanding the nexus between his illness, personality, and offending". However, the board did give its "cautious support" for escorted ground leaves for Chand to begin, as long as they stayed within the psychiatric hospital's perimeter. It comes a day after Miss Marceau's parents welcomed a decision by the coroner to hold an inquest into their daughter's death. It will take place next
year, but a date has not yet been set. In November 2011, Chand, then 18, stabbed Miss Marceau repeatedly in her North Shore home. She died in her mother's arms. Chand was on bail at the time and was facing charges of kidnapping, threatening and assaulting the 18-yearold university student two months earlier. He was on a 24-hour curfew and had been ordered not to associate with, attempt to contact, or go anywhere near Miss Marceau or her home. But just 32 days after his release on bail, Chand walked to her house armed with a hammer and kitchen knife, and killed her.

It was a perfect Christmas gift to the people of Beqa and the villagers of Raviravi as their new Nursing Station was officially opened by the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama. The government spent over $400,000 for the new Raviravi Nursing Station and has brought relief to the people of Beqa. Village elder Seruveveli Ratuvukivuki said for years they have been struggling and facing problems to take patients to

Meanwhile, Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management, Colonel Inia Seruiratu said it is good news for the people of Beqa as they will also have a number of doctors in the Island as 70 doctors will be graduating from the Fiji School of Medicine every year.

A lawyer convicted of perverting the course of justice in Fiji has failed in his bid to practice law again in Queensland. Abhay Kumar Singh, 56, was convicted in October 2006 after he approached a witness in a 2003 corruption case, requesting he change his evidence. Although Mr Singh initially pleaded guilty to the offence, he subsequently appealed, unsuccessfully, in the Fiji Court of Appeal and the Fiji Supreme Court. He served six months in home detention and the Fiji Law Society cancelled his practising certificate. A Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal ruling in April removed Mr Singh from the local roll of legal practitioners, which led to his Supreme Court appeal against the ruling. The Supreme Court this week dismissed that appeal. In the written judgment, Justice Margaret McMurdo said Mr Singh had demonstrated "11th hour" remorse, inferring he had received "strong and prudent legal advice" to that effect. "It is true that the offending at the root of this appeal occurred 10 years ago, but on any view it was gravely reprehensible conduct, the more so when committed by a legal practitioner," she said. "Whilst an officer of the court, he sought to interfere with the proper administration of justice by attempting to bribe a witness in a criminal trial and then encouraged the witness to bring a spurious action against the police. "...It undermined public confidence both in the criminal justice system and in the legal profession. "It plainly demonstrated he is not a fit and proper person to be a legal practitioner." The Consumer Council of Fiji is calling on the key stakeholders in the health sector to re-look at the antibacterial soaps and body washes which comes with a claim that people using them will stay away from falling sick. Many consumers are buying antibacterial soaps and body washes, which are readily available in the Fijian market these days, some are even locally produced, therefore, it is crucial to know if these products are indeed worth the claim of fighting germs. We have locally produced antibacterial soaps, medicated soaps and hand washes carrying labels such as: antibacterial hand wash ensures 99 per cent germ removal, after use, no other medicated soap is needed while another one reads: this soap eliminates common bacteria on the skin creating a protective barrier. Weather these products truly kill 99 per cent germs or act as protective barriers is indeed a matter to be tested and the Council would like to see the evidence. The Councils call comes in light of a
recent statement by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) wanting the makers of antibacterial hand soaps and body washes to prove their products are safe for long-term daily use and more effective than regular soaps in preventing illness and the spread of certain infections. The U.S. FDA stated that unless companies can do that, they would have to reformulate or re-label these products if they want to keep them on the market. FDA has not been provided with data that shows these products are any more effective at preventing people from getting sick than washing with plain soap and water. Welcoming such a move, the Council is also urging the relevant authorities here to scrutinize these products which are flocking our markets and is calling for a system to be put in place whereby the local manufacturers and importers must provide evidence. Otherwise, the products should not be carrying labels with antibacterial claims and should be relabeled.

THE Fiji franchise of an Australianowned specialty coffee company has revealed plans to expand its reach to the Western Division. And while the company was still exploring its options to set up shop in Nadi and Lautoka, Gloria Jean's Coffees (Fiji) master franchisee Ariel de Asa said this would possibly bring employment opportunities for 10-15 people. "In terms of expansion, we are branching out to the West hopefully next year and most likely looking at Nadi and Lautoka. We are looking at potential sites but we haven't confirmed anything," he said. "If we take this on, employment opportunities would depend on the size of the outlet. Our usual minimum number of employees would be about six people but we could go to up to 15
people." He said the coffee franchise in Fiji had been progressing well over the past year and the company's latest investment was a sign of confidence in Fiji's improving economic conditions. Mr de Asa said they recently opened a sixth coffee shop at Damodar City Centre last Saturday and injected a "considerable investment" in the design and look of the coffee house. "There are 14 staff members for the coffee shop at the Damodar City Centre. The Damodar City outlet is a bigger store because we have an upstairs and downstairs area. This is what makes it unique and different from the other stores." He said they incorporated new global designs with a fresher look and colours than previous designs. Those, he said, were also based on overseas designs.
FIJI would have been more developed if farming was given more attention, says Bank of Baroda Fiji operation CEO Pabitra Das. During a trip to the North, Mr Das said Fiji was blessed with the necessary natural resources for such ventures. "In Fiji, if we throw any type of seed in the soil it will automatically germinate. "However farmers seem to lag behind a lot because of unregulated prices of farming produce throughout the country." Mr Das said the difference in farm produce prices across markets in the country affected farmers a lot.
SC
"The same vegetable that a farmer sells in Suva will cost more than those sold by another farmer in Labasa even if they incurred the same operation cost from cultivating the same crop. "We need to regulate the prices of our farm products that are sold in our local markets so that farmers in rural areas can also benefit from the work they put into their farms." He said the bank was set up in the North as a farmer's bank and had stuck to that concept so far. Mr Das had earlier said the bank had established a clientele base of 20 per cent this year.

One woman is left permanently disabled every day in Fiji as a result of violence from her husband or partner, new research has found. A report by the Fiji Women's Crisis Centre has also revealed that more than 70 women lose consciousness every day and about 40 others are injured. Women's rights groups in Fiji are appealing for more to be done to combat violence against women in the country. The coordinator of the Fiji Women's Crisis Centre Shamima Ali says the findings are worrying but attitudes are slowly changing. "It is taken a lot more seriously but there are still huge areas where improvement needs to occur," she said. "There is increased information, increased knowledge and increased concern around this issue over the years. "And more people are coming on board so that is a positive thing." The report says the rate of violence against women in Fiji is among the highest in the world. More than 60 per cent of women who've been in an intimate relationship have experienced physical or sexual violence from their partner.

Ms Ali says there's a lack of understanding around such violence. "Everyone's not on the same page about it," she says. "Traditional, patriarchal attitudes and thinking still exist." The data shows assaults are particularly prevalent in rural areas. "There is a lot more of the kind of violence we're talking about, physical, sexual and emotional violence," Ms Ali says. "There are many reasons for this and one of them definitely is lack of access to services." Despite the alarming figures, Ms Ali remains optimistic. "If we all get onto the same page and we really are committed to this and there is political will, we can bring these numbers down," she said. "We want to present it [the report] to government and create a lot more inter-agency cooperation both with non-governmental organisations and government entities." The research also shows 15 per cent of women have been beaten during pregnancy. And it reveals a high number of victims never seek help.

FIJIANS who still have not registered and those turning 18 years in January can still register their names to be part of the election next year. The printing of the 40 sets of National Register of Voters cost the elections line ministry $180,000. "We intend to print more and the 40 sets will be distributed across the country," Attorney-General and Minister Responsible for Elections Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said. "These books will need to be updated because there will be people who will need to be included in these rolls. "We published this as a provisional roll and it tells you the period of registration as at 15th November." Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the idea of increasing the number of polling stations was to make voting an easy
chore. He said Fijians who could not vote at the polling stations would be eligible for the advance voting system, similar to the ones used in Australia. He added arrangements would be made to cater for troops serving in overseas countries, as well as Fijians working abroad. "We've also highlighted in various public gatherings that employers also need to be understanding. "There are some employment conditions that require them to work on shift basis; they may need to be given a couple of hours to get out of work to vote." Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said four experts were now working on logistics to help the smooth running of the elections next year.

Gennis Foods (Fiji) Limited trading as Bakewell Cakes has received positive reviews from customers at its factory in Lami. Bakewell Cakes managing director Nikos Gennis shows off a variety of cakes for export
BOASTING to be Fiji's first cake exporting factory, Gennis Foods (Fiji) Limited trading as Bakewell Cakes has invested about $2.5million to set up business in Lami. And with the first shipment expected to leave Fiji by February next year, managing director Nikos Gennis said this would be the start of a new industry. "Fiji has never exported cake in a container so going by my past sales, I'm expecting to export 50,000 cakes a week in the next 12 months and increasing after that," he said. "My markets will be Australia, New Zealand, US, Canada and parts of the European Union. I've been serving them for so many years and I've told them what I'm going to do here in Fiji. "I'm not going to supply fresh cakes anymore. I'm going to supply frozen cakes, which is bigger than fresh cakes business. "If you go to Australian supermarkets and look in their big freezers, they've got every frozen cake you can think of. This is a new industry so when the first container leaves this country, it'll be a new business. There's a lot of work still to be done but that's what I'm aiming for." Mr Gennis, who is of Greek descent and an Australian citizen, said it took him two years and a substantial investment to rebuild the factory. He said business was progressing positively and was a source of income for 20 people. With 60 different flavoured-cakes and pastries to choose from, Mr Gennis said, affordable pricing contributed to the popularity of his products. Mr Gennis plans to export his first shipment of frozen cakes to Tonga and Samoa before expanding to his intended markets.

Fiji has been allocated a grant of up to US$3.8mil to support REDD+ readiness efforts in the country. REDD+ is an initiative that encourages developing countries to contribute to greenhouse gas emission reductions by reducing deforestation, forest degradation and by promoting forest conservation, sustainable management of forests and increasing forest carbon stocks. Amongst others, the grant will support a more informed participation of stakeholders (especially local communities) in REDD+, the development of instruments to ensure optimal benefits for resource owners and the better monitoring of Fijis forests. The resolution passed at the 16th meeting of participants committee of the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) saw Fiji included as a REDD+ country in the FCPF and allocated a readiness preparation grant of up to US$3.8mil for a 4-year phase. The funds were granted after a rigorous review process of REDD+ readiness preparation proposals (RPPs) submitted by 11 countries. Fiji was one
of the 8 countries to successfully meet the requirements for funding. The FCPF management team praised Fijis proposal as of the highest quality with the proposal coming in the top 3 of the 11 submitted. The lead expert reviewer of the Fiji RPP, Mr Jayant Sathaye, congratulated Fiji on a well written and coherent proposal. The Fiji RPP was drafted through extensive stakeholder consultations involving officers from various sectors and agencies. The head of Fijis delegation to the Geneva meeting, the Permanent Secretary of Fisheries and Forests, Inoke Wainiqolo, expressed his appreciation to the Facility for accepting Fiji into the FCPF and confirmed the commitment of the Government of Fiji in the implementation of the REDD readiness proposal. The Fijian Government has been allocating FJD300,000 per year for REDD+ efforts in the country since 2012. The Fiji national REDD+ programme is supported by the SPC (Secretariat of the Pacific Community)/ GIZ (German Agency for International Cooperation) programmes.

Fiji can become a peaceful, united and non-discriminatory nation by emulating the virtue of forgiveness that was the cornerstone of former South African President Nelson Mandelas life. In a moving memorial service organised by the South African High Commission at the Centenary Church Monday afternoon, His Excellency the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau said Fijians have much to learn from this beacon of moral clarity. The President, who met the global leader twice, said Mr Mandela had the quality of qualities that resonates with Fijians which was the capacity to forgive. We watched in awe as one man led the entire nation in a collective act of forgiveness and reconciliation and inclusion, the scale of which the world has never seen. It resonated with us. It was the kind of thing we would like to think we are capable of. He said as Fiji embarks on its own path under the new Constitution, the nation must embrace Madibas belief that
there was no reason that any person should face discrimination of any sort at the hands of his or her fellow citizen. We too must embrace this way of thinking if we are to build a nation that is more just, more equal, and more united, the head of State said. As Fiji moves forward into a new era of substantive equality and justice for all, let us all commit ourselves to following the path lit by Madiba. To embrace true democracy, true equality, compassion, love, unity, and respect for all Fijians, no matter what their ethnicity, religion, gender or background, he said. The memorial service was attended by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, Attorney General Aiyaz SayedKhaiyum and Minister for Youth and Sports, Viliame Naupoto. Also in large numbers were diplomats, heads of non-government organisations, church leaders, expatriates and business people. Meanwhile Government departments and agencies flew the Fijian flag at half mast Monday to commemorate the event.

In the Gospel According To John we read what I believe is The Greatest Christmas Verse In All Of The Bible. John 3;16 Here we learn that because of love, there was a gift given. It was a gift that the whole world needed then; and that it still needs today. It means that you can come and take this gift from God; He is offering it to you right now. The only thing we have to do to receive this gift is to believe and receive. The gift that God is offering to the world is His Son Jesus. At Christmas we see pictures of a little baby lying in a manger and we remember that Jesus was born in Bethlehem. But Jesus grew up and later went to a place called Calvary. There He died on a Cross for our sins, all of the bad things that we have ever done. He did that so that the world could have a relationship with God and so that they could go to
Merry Christmas
Yes, Christmas is a JOY / PEACE / GOODWILL TOWARDS MAN A JOYOUS TIME THAT ALMIGHTY GOD gave his son (JESUS) as a gift to mankind as a forgiveness from sin. In his love, punishment was not to be put upon us but forgiveness from our sinful nature. So for GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS BEGOTTEN SON THAT WHO SO EVER BELEIVES ON HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE. In forgiveness we have joy and peace. In this lesson for GOD , share our peace and love each other and build a healthy relationship with our parents, brothers, sisters, relatives including our neighbours. When homes are decorated with lights its a sign of removing darkness from our lives and our ways of darkness and into the light of JESUS CHRIST. Inviting families and friends for Christmas dinner should show one's love and care for each other and not to invite for s show piece, but to invite and share whatever is put forward in love. That's what Christmas is all about. This Christmas gifts that you give to each other, give in love not to put value in it to show how good we are. God's gift his son JESUS CHRIST was in love and HE did not put a value on his son. Doctors in China have reattached a man's severed hand after keeping it alive for a month by attaching it to his leg. The 25-year-old, identified by his nickname Xiao Wei, had his right hand sawn off by a drilling machine at work last month in Changde, in the central province of Hunan, the Xiaoxiang Morning Herald said on Tuesday. The damage was too severe to re-attach the hand immediately, so surgeons grafted it onto his lower leg, just above his Achilles tendon, to keep it alive while the healing process began. Severed limbs can be saved if their

blood supply is restored within several hours of their amputation, depending on the circumstances. Earlier this month, doctors removed the hand and successfully reattached it to Xiao Wei's arm in a nine-hour operation. He will have to go through several further operations and rehabilitation therapy to restore the limb's function, the report added. "It's just like building a house," the paper quoted Tang Juyu, Xiao Wei's primary doctor, as saying. "Currently the main body is established. There will have to be interior decorations in the future."
A lawyer for an Indian driver who fled Australia after a fatal car accident says his client would not receive a fair trial if he was extradited because of hatred towards Indian students. Puneet Puneet, 24, hit two students as they walked across a road in Melbourne in 2008. Queensland student Dean Hofstee, 19, died at the scene. Puneet's lawyer Anil Mittal told a New Delhi court he opposed his client's extradition to Melbourne to face trial because of the "hatred towards Indian students in Australia". Mr Mittal cited hate messages on Australian social media sites against Puneet as evidence that his life would be threatened if he returned and that he would not receive a fair trial. Several attacks on Indian students in Australia in 2011 outraged India and led to accusations of racism against migrants, sparking a diplomatic row between the two countries. Mr Mittal also accused Australian police of pressuring Puneet into

confessing to the crime, but did not give details. "The guilty plea was taken out of him under pressure," the lawyer told the magistrate's court. "We are opposing his extradition. The trial for the charges that he is facing can be held in India." Puneet, who is being held in Delhi's Tihar jail, was in court along with members of his family. Australian police estimated Puneet, who had a provisional driver's licence at the time of the crash, was driving at 148 kilometres per hour - more than double the legal limit in the area. He also tested positive for alcohol. Puneet was charged with culpable driving and negligently causing serious injury, then bailed on strict conditions including the surrender of his passport. But he later fled using a fellow Indian's passport. After four years on the run from police in India, he was arrested in late November in the northern state of
Punjab. Prosecutors said the Indian government had already agreed to extradition, and the court just needed to submit a report
to the government for the process to go ahead. The court fixed January 9 as the date for the next hearing.

India Moves Diplomat Devyani Khobragade To UN Mission, Following Arrest In New York That Sparked Diplomatic Row
India has transferred a diplomat at the centre of a political row with the United States to its UN mission in New York in an attempt to give her full diplomatic immunity. The transfer of deputy consular general Devyani Khobragade to the United Nations Permanent Mission came after Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid pledged to "restore the dignity" of the diplomat who was stripsearched during her 48-hour detention in New York last week. "To ensure diplomatic immunity to Devyani, India has shifted her to the United Nations Permanent Mission in New York," Mr Khurshid is quoted in India media as saying. India's foreign ministry is yet to confirm the reports. The row was triggered when Ms Khobragade, 39, was arrested last week on charges of visa fraud and making false statements about how much she paid her maid, an Indian national. Ms Khobragade is alleged to have paid her maid just $3.31 an hour despite signing a contract to pay her three times that amount. The diplomat pleaded not guilty and reportedly had plans to challenge the arrest on grounds of diplomatic immunity. Anger in India boiled when it was revealed that Ms Khobragade was stripsearched following her arrest, and held in a cell with with other detainees, some of whom where allegedly drug addicts. "I must admit that I broke down many times as the indignities of repeated handcuffing, stripping and cavity searches, swabbing, in a hold-up with common criminals and drug addicts were all being imposed upon me
India's deputy consul general Devyani Khobragade was arrested by US authorities as she dropped her daughter at school.
despite my incessant assertions of immunity," she said in the email. Around 30 protesters gathered outside the US embassy on Wednesday. "The way our diplomat was insulted, stripped, handcuffed on the road, put behind bars with goons and thugs, all this has caused anguish for the people of our country," Hindu nationalist Jai Bhagwan Goyal said at the rally. US State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf admitted it was a "sensitive issue" but insisted protocol was followed. "Thus far all indications are that appropriate procedures were followed," Ms Harf said. "But nonetheless... we understand this is a very sensitive issue, and we're continuing to review exactly what transpired." She said as a consular official, Ms Khobragade does not have full diplomatic immunity, but has consular immunity which "only applies to things done in the actual functions of one's job." India increases pressure on US officials The latest move comes after the Indian government launched several reprisals against US diplomatic officials, including revoking identity cards that speed up travel into and through India. The government also vowed to stop all import clearances for the US embassy, while Indian security forces removed barricades from outside the US embassy in New Delhi. India's parliamentary affairs minister Kamal Nath said the arrest was a slap in the face to all of India. "The United States needs to come out of the mindset that there are still banana republics in this world," Mr Nath said.
Delta boss Richard Anderson said the airline will ban mobile phone calls on planes even if US regulators allow the technology to be used in-flight. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently said it would consider lifting its ban on inflight calls. Mr Anderson said a majority of Delta's customers who were surveyed indicated calls would be "a disruption to the travel experience". He added in-flight crews also objected to allowing mobile phones to be used. "Even as technology advances and as regulations are changed, we will not
only consider what we can do, but as importantly we will also consider what is right for our customers and our employees," said Mr Anderson in a memo to staff. While the FCC has indicated it is open to amending its rules, another US agency - the Transportation Department - has said it is thinking about instituting a ban of its own. A recent poll by the Associated Press news agency suggested that 48% of Americans opposed allowing mobile phone calls during flights. Among those who flew at least once last year, it was 59%.
Two winning tickets have been sold for the US's second largest jackpot in history, the $636m Mega Millions draw, lottery officials say. They said one ticket was sold in California, at Jennifer's Gift Shop in San Jose, and another ticket was sold in Atlanta, Georgia. Long queues were reported around the country in stores selling the tickets ahead of the draw. The winning numbers were 8, 14, 17, 20 and 39, with a Megaball of 7. The current American jackpot record is $656m - that was split between three winners in 2012. The jackpot was previously estimated at $586m, but on Tuesday lottery officials increased their prediction due to strong ticket sales. 'Time for believing' Undeterred by odds of one in 259 million, large queues of would-be winners formed at petrol stations and convenience stores in the 43 US states that participate in the draw.
If received in a lump cash sum as opposed to an annuity, the total would be $341m, a lottery official reported. "I feel it. I believe. It's Christmas. It's time for believing and I know I'm going to win it," Nesha Isahak told Reuters news agency as she bought her ticket at a newsstand in Manhattan, New York. "I think there's absolutely no way I am going to win this lottery," Tanya Joosten, 39, told the Associated Press news agency in Milwaukee. "But it's hard for such a small amount of money to not take the chance." Not every winner need face the routine news conference with a bottle of bubbly and chunky cardboard cheque. Six US states allow lottery winners to remain anonymous: South Carolina, Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota and Ohio. In several other states, it is reportedly possible for winners to keep their names secret by claiming their jackpot through a trust or a limited liability company.

A wine dealer has been found guilty in New York of manufacturing fake vintage bottles for illegal profit. Rudy Kurniawan, 37, was convicted on two counts of wire and postal fraud in federal court on Wednesday. He was accused of fooling buyers into thinking wine made in his Arcadia, California, kitchen was rare. Arrested in 2012, the Indonesian-born vintner was accused of selling up to $1.3m in counterfeit bottles from 2004-12. Authorities were said to have found thousands of labels for fine Burgundy and Bordeaux wine along with full, unlabelled bottles in Kurniawan's home. 'Magic cellar' Kurniawan's fraud funded a lavish lifestyle in suburban Los Angeles, prosecutors said.
An avid collector himself, Kurniawan was once considered one of the best aficionados in the world. In 2006 alone, it was believed he sold up to 12,000 bottles at auction. Prosecutors allege he produced at least 1,000 fake bottles in his kitchen, which Kurniawan referred to as his "magic cellar". "It is an enormous amount," prosecutor Joseph Facciponti told the media. "This was an operation on a massive scale." Defence attorney Jerome Mooney portrayed Kurniawan as a scapegoat who, in buying thousands of bottles of vintage wine, was bound to inadvertently purchase a few fakes given their widespread availability on the market. Kurniawan is due to be sentenced on 24 of April.
A passenger went into labour during a Wizz Air flight from Valencia in Spain to Bucharest and gave birth to a boy inside the aircraft just after it landed in the Romanian capital, the airline said. The woman requested assistance from the crew minutes before it was due to land on Tuesday at Bucharest's Otopeni airport, Romania's busiest, Eastern Europe's largest budget airline said in a statement. "During descent and while taxiing to the terminal, the passenger was assisted on a back row of the aircraft by a crew member and a doctor who was travelling on the same flight," it said. "Mother and newborn baby were met by the airport ambulance and taken to hospital. We are very proud of our crew who handled the situation with professionalism and care."
The airline did not specify the passenger's nationality or age. "While this mother and her newborn baby seem well, we urge all our pregnant mothers not to risk their well-being and not to conceal their pregnancy," it added. Passengers must produce a certificate from a doctor if they are travelling after their 28th week of pregnancy, and cannot travel after their 34th week of pregnancy, the airline said. In August a 39-year-old Moroccan woman on a Royal Air Maroc flight between Casablanca and the Italian city of Bologna gave birth moments before the plane made an emergency landing at Barcelona's El Prat airport. Budapest-based Wizz Air flies more than 280 routes across Europe and has a fleet of 45 Airbus planes.
PIPPA Middleton - the sister of Britain's Duchess Catherine - has reportedly got engaged to her boyfriend Nico Jackson. The party planner - who is the sister of Britain's Duchess Catherine, the wife of Prince William - was surprised by a "romantic and grand" proposal from boyfriend Nico Jackson during their vacation to the luxury Oberi Amarvilas resort in India earlier this month. A source told Us Weekly magazine: "It was exactly how he planned it. Very romantic and grand." The couple - who have been dating for 15 months - have been celebrating their good news in private and are looking forward to a family Christmas before heading off on another trip, skiing in the Alps. It was previously claimed that Pippa, 30, and Nico, 36, plan to marry in Scotland. A source said recently: "A wedding in London would never compare to her sister Kate's of course, and the prospect of erecting a marquee at her parents' house in Bucklebury for a party after the wedding service would be too lowkey for her tastes these days." There was some talk of Pippa hunting out suitable wedding venues on her next trip to Scotland. Nico loves the country too - he thinks it's beautiful -
but when it comes to wedding planning he'll leave that to Pippa. He will go along with whatever she wants. And what she wants at the moment is a wedding in the Scottish Highlands. "Nico would love a honeymoon in the Caribbean and a great bachelor party." Pippa attracted the attention of the world when she was the maid of honour at the wedding of her sister Catherine - formerly known as Kate Middleton - to heir-to-thethrone William on April 29, 2011. Pippa wowed in a white figure-hugging dress - designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen.
India is set to have a powerful independent agency with the task of investigating corruption within government, after parliament approved the long-delayed Lokpal bill on Wednesday. The bill, known as Lokpal after the Hindi word for ombudsman, was passed by the lower house after the ruling Congress and the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) joined forces in a rare display of unity. "It is historic and landmark legislation," Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declared. It follows a mass anti-corruption movement that swept the country in 2011, led by anti-corruption campaigner Anna Hazare. In recent years, Indians have become increasingly incensed with the Congress-led government which has been hit by a string of multi-billiondollar corruption scandals, from allegations of illegal distribution of cut-price telecom licences to the 2010 graft-tainted Commonwealth Games. The landmark Lokpal Act will set up an independent body that has the authority to use any investigation agency to probe suspected corruption. All ministers and senior public servants are covered by the bill, including the
prime minister. Those guilty of criminal misconduct and "habitually abetting corruption" could face 10 years in prison. Anna Hazare told a rally of supporters "this has been for the country... it has been a lot of work by a lot of people". The 76-year-old drank coconut water to break a nine-day fast that he had been staging to push for the bill in his home village in western Maharashtra state. BJP house leader Sushma Swaraj praised "the people of this country" for achieving passage of the bill, but added the main credit should go to "the old and fragile man Anna Hazare who has been fasting for so many days to press for competent anti-corruption legislation". The bill will now go to the president for formal approval and will serve as a model law for India's states, which are now required to set up their own anticorruption bodies. Some critics suggested the bill will make government policymakers reluctant to take any decision for fear of corruption charges. The regional Samajwadi party walked out of parliament in protest, with its chief Mulayam Singh Yadav calling the legislation "a dangerous bill" that "will paralyse decision making".

More and more of us are eating out on a regular basis, whether it's for a business lunch, a girls' get together, or for a family meal. Eating out usually means that we have little control over how the food is prepared or how large the portion is. Foods eaten out tend to be higher in fat and research has shown that those who eat out regularly generally have higher intakes of fat, salt and calories. Studies have also shown that eating with friends can tempt us to overeat. Meals with multiple courses eaten over longer periods and with alcohol are all associated with overindulgence. Large serving bowls and spoons increase the likelihood of piling more food on your plate than you usually eat. A Canadian retiree has pledged to give a $C40 million ($42.3 million) lottery prize to charity, saying he does not need the money. "I've been fortunate enough, through my career, 44 years with a company. I did very well for myself," Tom Crist told the media. "I've done enough that I can look after myself, for my kids, so they can get looked after into the future. "I don't really need that money," The Calgary, Alberta resident retired as chief executive of an electrical wholesale company in September, four months after learning from lotteries officials that he had won the jackpot. Mr Crist had been golfing in California
when he got the call. He says he waited until now to claim the jackpot because at the time he "just didn't know how to deal with it". "As soon as I hung up from my cellphone call from Western Canada Lottery I never thought about it," he said. "We finished our lunch, we went out golfing. "I've kept it a secret, even my kids didn't know until today." Mr Crist says the funds will be rolled into a trust fund and doled out to charities chosen by himself and his children over the coming years, in memory of his wife who died of cancer two years ago.

A Calgary father is suing Shoppers Drug Mart over his daughter's death nearly a year ago. Marit McKenzie, 18, died after taking Diane-35 a drug used to treat acne which also works as an oral contraceptive because it halts ovulation. But Health Canada says is not approved for use in Canada as an oral contraceptive. Bruce McKenzie says the family was unaware that Diane-35 could cause blood clots. She died last January after suffering four cardiac arrests, a pulmonary embolism and a brain hemorrhage. "Shoppers Drug Mart said that this medication might cause dizziness or headaches or nausea. But they failed to say that this drug might kill somebody from a blood clot, which all the other pharmacies that we pulled information from, that was the No. 1 thing they said." The lawsuit claims the drug store was negligent in providing the proper information about the risks associated with Diane-35. Shoppers Drug Mart issued a statement
Wednesday. "The death of this young woman is a tragedy and we extend our condolences to the McKenzie family for their loss," reads the statement. "As partners in Canadas health-care system, pharmacists work together with Health Canada, drug manufacturers and doctors to inform and counsel patients on the appropriate use and safety of their medications." The company wrote that they declined to comment further as the case was before the courts. Health Canada warnings It also alleges the pharmacy was negligent because it continued to renew McKenzies prescription despite Health Canada warnings to consumers about those risks. "The reality is that Health Canada has put out three warnings about this drug since its inception in 1998," said McKenzie. "Two days after my daughter died Health Canada put another warning on their website about this drug." McKenzie says he decided to go ahead with the lawsuit to raise awareness about this issue.

Domestic Wireless Roaming Fees White Rock Polar Bear Swim On For 2014, But Its Future Looks Dim To Be Capped
Fines coming for violations of Wireless Code Customers of smaller wireless carriers such as Wind will soon no longer be charged huge premiums when they travel within Canada and roam on the networks of bigger carriers, the federal government has announced. Industry Minister James Moore said Wednesday that "in the coming weeks," the federal government plans to ban wireless providers from charging more for services to customers of carriers other than their own. "The roaming rates that Canada's largest wireless companies are charging other domestic providers can be more than 10 times what they charge their own customers," Moore said in a statement. "For too long, Canadian consumers in the wireless sector have been the victims of these high roaming costs." Smaller carriers such as Wind typically don't have as wide coverage with their own cellphone towers across Canada as the Big 3 Rogers, Bell and Telus. When their customers travel outside the range of Wind's network, they must use the towers of the bigger carriers, and may be charged high "roaming" rates. The CRTC has previously expressed concern that this makes it difficult for smaller carriers to compete, and has launched an investigation into wireless roaming rate agreements. Simon Lockie, chief regulatory officer for Wind Mobile, applauded the proposed cap on roaming rates. "Todays announcement will help ensure more competition and more choices for Canadians, he said in a statement. In an email to CBC News, Bell spokeswoman Jacqueline Michelis said the company looks forward to "seeing in more detail the legislation." Telus declined to comment, and as of 3 p.m. ET, Rogers had not responded to requests from CBC News for comment on Moore's announcement. The new caps on domestic roaming rates for voice, data and text services will be introduced as an amendment to the Telecommunications Act. Moore announced that the government will also be making amendments to the act that would allow the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), which regulates the wireless industry, to fine companies that violate rules such as the new Wireless Code, which governs wireless customer contracts. Fines could also be imposed for violations of rules related to the deployment of wireless spectrum, services to rural areas, and the sharing of cellphone towers. CRTC roaming rates probe unaffected Tony Lacavera, CEO of small carrier Wind, says the policy will make a big difference in roaming rates across the country. "This roaming development is huge for Wind because it allows us to go out there with a whole new proposition. We can now offer Canadians national plans," he said in an interview with CBC's Lang & O'Leary Exchange. As it stands now, customers have their calls dropped and can't roam seamlessly on Wind plans, while costs have been prohibitive, he said. He expects the new regime will allow Wind to attract business customers and people who travel frequently. Lacavera said the big three telecom firms were supposed to share with small entrants, but it hasn't worked out that way. "We have not successfully been able to share their towers which is a big environmental concern building more sites and aesthetically, theyre pretty ugly too so we have had to build everything from scratch," he said. The CRTC announced last week that it is investigating wholesale roaming agreements across Canada to find out if wireless providers were placing their Canadian competitors at an unfair advantage, and will be launching a proceeding in 2014 to examine wireless competition in Canada. Neither the investigation nor the proceeding will be affected by Moore's announcement, a CRTC spokesperson told CBCNews.ca Wednesday. CRTC chair Jean-Pierre Blais disclosed last week that the commission had obtained information that Telus, Bell and Rogers were proposing to charge higher rates to smaller Canadian carriers such as Wind than they charge to U.S. wireless companies and was concerned. He noted that the commission had the authority "to ensure that companies do not give themselves an unfair competitive advantage" such as by charging "unjustly discriminatory" roaming rates. The regulator began gathering information about roaming rates earlier in the fall and is seeking public comments until Jan. 29. Its planned proceeding in 2014 will further examine competition in the wireless market and what measures might need to be taken if it is found to be "not sufficiently competitive."
The future of the White Rock polar bear swim is in doubt following a membership crisis at the Peace Arch Monarch Lions Club, which has been hosting the event for the past 43 years. Initially, the swim was set to be cancelled for the upcoming New Year's Day but those plans were salvaged when the City Of White Rock was able to find three volunteers to help out with the club's hosting duties. However, as the Lions Club is gearing up for the 44th incarnation of the popular event, it could very well be the organization's last year hosting. According to Sandy McKenzie, chairman of the club's membership committee, the current members are simply getting too old to continue their efforts and are desperately seeking younger, more ablebodied members to keep the club's various enterprises going. "The City of White Rock has stood up for us with three able-bodied people, but the problem is we're getting older and we need new members here," said McKenzie. Citing a lack of younger members as the key concern, McKenzie is hoping to find some new recruits during the upcoming swim. "As we get older, people are dying off," said McKenzie. "At our meeting the other day, there was an 91-yearold, someone who was 90 and a whole
A husband and wife from Burnaby have been charged with fraud after hundreds of thousands of dollars disappeared from a real estate company in North Vancouver. Arthur Wong was the financial controller of the business between 2007 and 2009; he and and his wife Jessie are accused of misappropriating $360,000. Corporal Richard de Jong with North Vancouver RCMP says the pair appeared in court earlier this week and were released on strict conditions. [They had to] surrender their
bunch in their 80s." McKenzie said younger people might not be aware of the club's goals, which are to give back to the community through various charitable events and activities. Those initiatives include financially supporting the White Rock South Surrey Hospice, White Rock Leisure Services, Semiahmoo Rescue and St. John's Ambulance to name a few. "It all goes to the people in the community who need stuff, the food bank, the Salvation Army, cadets, local charities," he said. McKenzie also notes that those who might be wanting to do something but may be unsure about committing can also apply as volunteers and, despite a perception that it may be open to just men, the club is in fact open to anyone, regardless of gender or age. "Race, religion and politics do not come into it," he said. "We're after members and volunteers, there's no commitment, you don't have to show up for a certain amount of hours, you can just volunteer for different things." McKenzie said the Lions Club has a long tradition of community service in the area and it would be a shame to see it fade away. Information will also be available at the 2014 White Rock Polar Bear Swim, which will take place on Jan. 1 between noon and 2 p.m. just east of the pier by the big white rock.

Continued From Last Week Rule 7 - Stay Cool Your disciplinary message will have a much greater impact if you deliver it in a calm, rational manner. Yes, this is easier said than done. It can be a challenge to curb your temper when your 1-year-old has just written with permanent marker on the kitchen wall, or your 2-year-old has unspooled an entire roll of toilet paper. Raising one's voice is a natural reaction, but yelling both degrades a child and makes you a poor role model. Plus, if you shout a lot, a toddler may tune you out or think it's funny and do mischievous things just to get a rise out of you. On the other hand, a too-timid response can be as ineffective as shouting. Sounding too mild or uncertain may dilute your message. Avoid couching commands as questions: "Stop jumping on the bed, okay, honey?" or "Do you want to go to sleep now?"
Rule 8 - Be Brief The best way to get your message across to a toddler is to use as few words as possible. There's no need, for instance, to stray into a medical explanation of why sticking dried beans up one's nose is a bad idea. A young child benefits most from short, to-the-point messages: "Hot." "Walk, don't run." " We don't do that." "Biting hurts." Rule 9 - Set a Good Example You've most likely heard about the mother who slaps her child's hand as she scolds, "No hitting!" And grabbing is another negative behavior parents unwittingly demonstrate to young kids. If your child is clutching something you don't want her to have, try not to just snatch it away from her. It's better to calmly ask her to give you the object in a no-nonsense tone while holding out your hand for it. Rule 10 - Monitor Moods When it comes to discipline, "One size fits all" definitely doesn't apply to small children: Some easygoing toddlers respond well to low-key reminders and a warning. Other kids may need more stringent limits; if you give in once, they'll take advantage of it later. As you discipline your little one, remember that you're not just helping him learn how to behave: You're also teaching him what to expect from his world, and what it expects from him in return.

A new study by Indian origin researcher has revealed that the synthesis of the most active component of grape seed extract, B2G2, encourages the cell death known as apoptosis in prostate cancer cells while leaving healthy cells unharmed. "We've shown similar anti-cancer activity in the past with grape seed extract (GSE), but now we know B2G2 is its most biologically active ingredient which can be synthesized in quantities that will allow us to study the detailed death mechanism in cancer cells," Alpna Tyagi, PhD, of the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, said. Previous studies have shown the GSE effectiveness against cancer cells and have also shown its mechanism of action. However, Tyagi said that
Greater intake of Vitamin E either as part of the diet or through supplements lowers the risk of liver cancer, new research shows. Vitamin E is fat-soluble and acts as an antioxidant. Numerous studies have suggested that Vitamin E may also prevent DNA damage. "Overall, the take home message is that high intake of Vitamin E either from diet or supplements was related to lower risk of liver cancer in middle-aged or older people in China," said Xiao Ou Shu, professor of medicine at Nashville's Vanderbilt University Epidemiology Centre, who conducted the study Liver cancer is the third most common cause of cancer mortality in the world, the fifth most common cancer found in men and the seventh most common in women, the Journal of the National Cancer Institute reports. Approximately 85 percent of liver cancers occur in developing nations, with 54 percent in China alone, according to a joint statement of Shanghai Cancer Institute (SCI) and
until recently, they didn't know which constituent of GSE created this effect. This naturally occurring compound, GSE, is a complex mixture of polyphenols and also so far it has been unclear about the biologically active constituents of GSE against cancer cells. Eventually the group pinpointed B2G2 as the most active compound, but, "it's expensive and it takes a long time to isolate B2G2 from grape seed extract," Tyagi says. The current study reported the success of this effort, including the ability to synthesize gram-quantity of B2G2 reasonably quickly and inexpensively. The study also showed anti-cancer activity of synthesized B2G2 similar in mechanism and degree to overall GSE effectiveness.

Vanderbilt University. To determine the link between Vitamin E intake and liver cancer, Wei Zhang from Shanghai Cancer Institute and colleagues analysed data from 132,837 individuals in China, in two populationbased cohort studies jointly conducted by the SCI and Vanderbilt University. Researchers asked participants how often they ate some of the most popular foods in urban Shanghai and whether they took vitamin supplements. They then compared liver cancer risk among participants having high and low vitamin E intake. The analysis included 267 liver cancer patients (118 women and 149 men) who were diagnosed within two years of study enrolment. Vitamin E intake from diet and Vitamin E supplement use were both linked with a lower risk of liver cancer. This association was consistent among participants with and without selfreported liver disease or a family history of liver cancer.

Researchers have revealed that acid reflux affects about 30 million Americans and have explained how such a condition can be avoided during holiday season. Experts from Houston Methodist Hospital have said that chewing fruitflavored or cinnamon sugarless gum after a meal increases the production of saliva, which helps neutralize stomach acid, while increased swallowing can help clear acid from the esophagus. The doctors have also said that one should stay away from mint flavored gums as mint is a common reflux trigger and choose sugarless gum to prevent cavities. They have also advised people to make meals last at least 20 minutes and to pay attention to when one's stomach
feels full. Reflux triggers tend to vary individually, so it's important to identify one's personal triggers and keeping a heartburn journal and documenting details such as the type of food consumed, symptoms, and the time symptoms occur, is one of the best strategies for identifying triggers. One can avoid heartburns by not eating meals for at least two hours before going to bed and avoiding late-night snacking. The experts have also said that staying away from acidic foods, such as spicy food, citrus fruits and tomatoes is also important, while one should drink plenty of water and avoid alcoholic beverages during dinner

Winter weather is hard on your vehicle and its engine. Prepare for winter in the fall, by getting a complete check-up of your: -Battery -Ignition system -Lights -Tires -Exhaust system -Heating and cooling system -Windshield wipers 2. Install four matching winter tires
Check pressures often, especially before any highway driving. Properly inflated, high quality winter tires will give you best traction on winter roads and increase fuel efficiency. A tire that has good pressure when checked in a warm garage will be under-inflated when it is below zero outside - because tire pressure goes down in the cold. That is why you should do your checks when the tires are cold. Use the maximum pressure amount shown in the owner's manual or on the doorframe as a guide, but never go above the pressure shown on the tire sidewall. Check your spare tire pressure regularly. Since having four matching tires improves vehicle handling, don't mix tires with different tread patterns, internal construction and size. 3. Pack an emergency kit
The danger of skidding is greatest when you are taken by surprise. Since not all vehicles respond in the same way to icy, slippery roads, learn how to handle your vehicle in all types of weather. Read the owner's manual to learn about your vehicle's braking system and tire traction. You may also consider taking a winter driving course. Having the latest safety features on new vehicles and/or knowing how to handle your vehicle are good ways to keep control. 5. Plan your trip, check road and weather conditions

Bombay High Court Asks Adnan Sami To Hand Over His Passport To Police
In more trouble for Pakistani singer Adnan Sami, the Bombay High Court has directed him to hand over his passport to police probing a harassment case filed against him by his ex-wife Sabah Galadari. Hearing Sabahs plea, Justice R P Sondurbaldota Wednesday ordered Sami to give his passport to the investigating officer immediately. Sabah pleaded that Adnan was not complying with the May 2009 order of the High Court granting him anticipatory bail in the same case. The High Court had asked Adnan to furnish two sureties which he did. However, in July this year both sureties told the court they wanted to withdraw and this was allowed. As there is no one to stand surety for Adnan now, there was violation of the 2009 order,
This was after Adnans ex-wife Sabah filed a case against him
Sabahs lawyers Mahesh Jethmalani and Edith Dey pleaded. Adnans representative told the High Court that the singer could not appear as he was unwell. The singercum-musician had recently sought permission of the high court to go abroad to perform shows. The court asked him to give details of the shows, which he has yet to submit. The matter is pending and will be heard on December 23. The High Court, on December 16, had asked Adnan to vacate the five-in-one duplex flats in Oberoi Sky Garden at Lokhandwala Complex in upscale Andheri within 2 months to facilitate the entry of Sabah who claimed it was her matrimonial home. Adnan currently stays with his third wife Roya Faribi in these flats.

Sussanne Roshan spoke out against reports that actor Arjun Rampal was a reason behind her split with her husband of 13 years, Hrithik Roshan. She says nobody is to be blamed. Sussanne couldn't avoid queries related to the recent announcement of her split with Hrithik, at the launch of Bandra 190, a luxury concept retail boutique co-owned by Sussanne, Seema Khan and Maheep Kapoor. Asked to react to reports on Arjun's involvement, she said: "You can't
blame anyone for this. It is sad to blame anyone. We are close-knit friends. It's not right to blame anyone." She said she cannot pinpoint a reason for parting ways with Hrithik, whom she dated for four years before finally tying the knot Dec 20, 2000. "There is no reason. Sometimes you have to do this because of a situation," said the mother of two sons - Hrehaan and Hridhaan. Hrithik announced Sussanne's decision to end their marriage via an official statement Dec 13.

Will Ranveer Singh And Ranbir Kapoor Party Together With Deepika Padukone?
Dippy, who has had a fantastic year, is planning to throw a big bash to celebrate the success of her last release Ram-Leela. However, whats surprising is that the leggy lass has invited her ex and alleged current boyfriend has invited her ex-boyfriends Ranbir Kapoor and Siddharth Mallya as well. And its pretty obvious that DPs Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela costar and alleged beau Ranveer Singh would also be present. Now it would surely be a kodak moment if these three hunks party together, no peeps? We arent sure about Sid but we wont be surprised if Ranboo turns up at the party coz the handsome lad shares a good rapport with his ex even today. However, how comfortable he would be with Ranveer, we dunno. But we think the two actors dont really have to get along till they are cordial and dont ruin the party for their host and dost Deepika. There is no doubt about the fact that Deepika Padukone is currently the reigning queen of Bollywood. The talented babe has given four super hit films this year which does call for a grand party, hai na? And thats exactly what Deepika has planned. Sanjay Leela Bhansalis onscreen Leela will be hosting a party and most of the Bollywood bigwigs are expected to grace the bash. Deepika has sent out personal invites. Come Saturday, Imtiaz Ali, Rohit Shetty, Madhur Bhandarkar, Ayan Mukerji, Karan Johar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Homi Adjania and Farah Khan will raise a toast to her said a source. But thats not all. Apparently, Ms Padukone
This might come as a total surprise for many, especially the Bollywood biggies Sunny Leone has put behind Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan and even Sachin Tendulkar to top the most searched people category. Now this certainly must be an achievement for the Jackpot heroine. According to Googles annual Zeitgeist, Sunny Leone is the most searched person. The Jai Ho star bagged number two position followed closely by his ex-girlfriend and Dhoom:3 star Katrina Kaif. The Goliyon ki Rasleela Ram-Leela heroine who had the maximum number of hit films this year, Deepika Padukone stood fourth while her Chennai Express co-star Shahrukh Khan took the fifth place. Yo Yo Honey Singh came right after SRK, while Kareena Kapoor Khan bagged eighth place followed by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and the Nasha actor Poonam Pandey who is best known for her dare bare acts. Well, looks like Ms Leone can now celebrate her popularity. And for those (read Kapil Sharma and Tanishaa Mukherji) who were embarrassed to shake hands and have her as a guest on their chat show; guess Sunny would just rub off her popularity and bring a sunny side to their lives too. Here take a look at Googles list Google Trends - People, 2013, India 1.Sunny Leone 2.Salman Khan 3.Katrina Kaif 4.Deepika Padukone 5.Shah Rukh Khan 6.Honey Singh 7.Kajal Aggarwal 8.Kareena Kapoor 9.Sachin Tendulkar 10.Poonam Pandey
Legendary actor Dilip Kumar turned 91 on Wednesday and instead of having a lavish birthday party, Saira Banu went for a private party with close friends, relatives and doctors who takes care of Dilip Kumar. Celebrities like Rani Mukherjee, veteran actress Asha Parekh, Dharmendra were part of the celebration. Salim Khan and Helen also made their presence felt. A team of 30 to 40 doctors who have looked after him, also participated at the party. In September this year, he was admitted to hospital for 10 days following cardiac arrest. The superstar is healthy now. I only want to thank God for whatever he has given us. We will have a great celebration with family members and around 30 to 40 doctors who looked after him. They are like family to us," informed Saira Banu who has been married to Dilip Kumar for 47 years. Saira Banu informed that birthday wishes started pouring in. "His day has been wonderful so far...
wishes started pouring in since last night. He is now tired a bit as he has been busy since morning. He is taking some rest right now," she said. Saira Banu has organised a garden party at their Pali Hill residence in the evening. This year is extra special, thanks to the date - 11/12/13. "It's all the more a special day as it is 11/12/13 today. I exactly wished him at 8 hours 9-minutes and 10 seconds ...so it's 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13." Talking about Dilip Kumar's health, Saira said he has become little weak but he is healthy. "He was in the hospital some time back as you all know so he is a little weak, but by god's grace he is healthy," she said. When asked what she gifted Dilip Kumar on his birthday, she said: "Dilip sahab is not fond of many things. He only believes in humanity, so I gifted him lots of love and each year the love is only getting bigger and bigger."

Recipe
Ingredients 1/4 cup brown sugar 2 teaspoons ground ginger 2 teaspoons dried tarragon 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground black pepper 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 4 lamb shanks Directions
In a medium bowl, mix brown sugar, ginger, tarragon, cinnamon, pepper, garlic powder, and salt. Rub lamb shanks with the seasonings, and place on a plate. Cover, and refrigerate for 1 hour. Preheat grill for high heat. Brush grill grate lightly with oil, and arrange lamb chops on grill. Cook 5 minutes on each side, or to desired doneness.
3/4 cup graham cracker crumbs 1 tablespoon sugar 1 tablespoon butter, melted 1 cup fresh raspberries 8 ounces regular cream cheese, softened 1/3 cup sugar 1 1/2 ounces white chocolate, melted 2 egg yolks 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest 1/2 cup light sour cream 2 egg whites Raspberries for garnish Preheat oven to 325 degrees. In small bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, sugar and melted butter. Coat 9-inch spring-form pan with cooking spray and press graham cracker mixture into bottom and 1 inch up the sides. Wrap the outside of pan with a large piece of foil. (Be sure the foil comes up the sides of the pan to prevent water from
seeping into the crust.) Arrange berries in the bottom of the crust. Place cream cheese in a large mixer bowl and beat at medium speed until smooth. Gradually add sugar and white chocolate and beat about 3 minutes. Add egg yolks, one a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla and lemon zest; stir in sour cream. In separate bowl, beat egg white to stiff peaks; carefully fold egg whites into the batter. Pour mixture into prepared crust and place cheese cake in a large shallow roasting pan; add hot water to pan to a 1-inch depth. Bake 45 minutes; turn off oven leaving the oven door ajar by placing a long handled spoon in the door to prop it open. After 1 hour, remove cheesecake from oven and cool to room temperature. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. To serve, garnish with additional raspberries, if desired.

When you fall in love with someone, their parents come as part of the package. And since we can't choose our in-laws, it's important to reach a common ground, if you are finding it difficult to get along with them. Shilpi, a banker says, "I thought that my husband's two sisters would include me in their relationship, and that we would be really close with one another. However, even twenty years later, they do not call or talk much to me, and they only want to speak to my husband. While for many years it hurts my feelings, and caused many arguments between me and my spouse, with time I realised that my definition of family was vastly different than theirs." "The root of most problems is the difference in one's upbringing. Each family has its own values, traditions and routines. Everything, from the way children should be brought up to how housework should be done, is deeply ingrained in a unique family blueprint. When your in-laws' blueprint is completely different from your own, differences of opinion and problems can arise," explains relationship expert Mahima. Mahima further adds, "To get on with your in-laws in a healthy manner, your partner and you must present a united front. It can be difficult to stand up to a parent and set boundaries and rules, but if you and your partner agree with each other and are supportive of one another, you're more likely to succeed," Here are some of the most common areas of conflict between couples and their respective in-laws, as well as tips to help you overcome them. Annoying habits Meera has a three-week-old daughter and is struggling with feeding problems, and lack of sleep. But her insensitive sister-in-law seems to be her biggest problem. "She drops in at any time of day, without notice, to visit my baby. Although I have given out enough hints that I would prefer a phone call first, but she just ignores all my hints," confesses Meera. "My mother-in-law has this irritating habit of barging into our bedroom at all times of the day or night and hanging around there with absolutely no respect for our personal privacy. Once she almost walked in on us having sex, it was completely embarassing. I vented out my frustration to my hubby, but he was totally unmoved saying it was her house and that she was a lonely widow. It's tough fighting the battle alone, so I have just given up. But after five years
of marriage, I just wish my space was respected," says 31-year-old graphic designer Sunita. Expert says: "Everyone has annoying habits. As a couple, make a list of the annoying things your parents or your in-laws do. Then, summoning all the good-will you can find, agree on the ones you can probably ignore or privately laugh about. If there are some you really can't live with, discuss the best way of tactfully asking your inlaws to stop doing them. If it's your parent or parents, chances are you'll know how to do this best - whether it's using humour or taking them aside for a quiet word," suggests Mahima. Avoid making your spouse choose between you and a family member as it's impossible for them to take sides. Rather try and understand the relationship your spouse has with his or her family. And if possible, try to support that relationship. Even if your spouse has parents from hell, they are after all his or her parents. Criticism "My mother-in-law never seems to be satisfied with my cooking skills. Whenever I prepare a dish, she will not stop commenting on how I could have added a certain ingredient to make it taste better. Somehow she always tries to prove that she is a better cook than me. Usually I shrug them off, but it does get to me at times," says Vandana, a chartered accountant. "My father-in-law can't stop cribbing about the way I keep my home. It's very hurtful when on every holiday he criticises my home saying it's not well maintained. My husband and I are working in jobs that hardly give us time, I do the best I can, but his sarcastic remarks are painful," says Shobhana, a BPO manager. Expert says: Anu, a marriage counsellor adds, "Some in-laws have no qualms about telling you if they think you've done something wrong. It's up to you to decide which comments you'll ignore and which you will accept as positive criticism. Decide as a couple that you'll ask them to stop making judgements about your career choices or parenting abilities, for example." "It's easy for a woman to try and enlist her husband's support, but it is recommended often better to respond to your mother-in-law directly, since your husband may not feel that this is a battle worth waging and thus may avoid the discussion altogether," feels Terri, Ph.D., a psychologist at the University of Cambridge, in England. Honesty is the best policy.

The Oceania Football Confederation has hit back at claims it's thwarting Tuvalu's bid to join the world governing body FIFA. Tuvalu wants a FIFA membership so it can compete in the Oceania Cup and World Cup qualifying. The OFC General Secretary Tai Nicholas says his organisation is doing everything it can to help Tuvalu. But he says the lack of infrastructure in the country is the main problem. "The problem with Tuvalu is that it's so small they can't find the available space to put a stadium," Mr Nicholas told Pacific Beat. "That's why they train on the airport. "When the plane lands they have to leave and they can go back and train when the plane takes off again." Tuvalu's campaign to join FIFA has been backed for the last four years by a group of sympathisers from the Netherlands, who call themselves the Dutch Support Tuvalu Foundation. Paul Driessen is part of that group and is now working for Tuvalu Football Association. Last week he accused the OFC of not supporting Tuvalu's ambitions. "I don't know exactly why but maybe it gives them a lot of administrative work," he told Pacific Beat. "It's quite clear that Tuvalu doesn't receive a lot of support. "For example the OFC never promotes Tuvalu in any single way on their website and there's very

By ASUA ALI The Digicel Fiji 7s side needs to put behind the South Africa Sevens loss and look to the Las Vegas 7s next month with optimism. These were the words of Isimeli Lesi Korobasaga, the coach of the quadruple British Columbia Sevens champions, Burnaby Lighthouse. Fiji needs to get focused for the Las Vegas at the Sam Boyd Stadium in Sin City, he said. Fiji has a tough task ahead. The team must follow Ben Ryans game plan and execute it from the very get go. The Samoa loss is behind us. Korobasaga said Fiji needed to get motivated and have another run at the title. little communication, and that's quite frustrating." But Mr Nicholas says his organisation is doing everything it can to help Tuvalu. "It's very disappointing that he makes these comments in the media when he knows full well what the requirements are," he said. "We provide financial grants to them every year, we provide technical courses, footballs, coaching courses. "We actually even help pay for them to come to OFC tournaments." Mr Nicholas says it's not just the lack of international-standard facilities that is the problem. "All the 11 OFC members have stadiums, they have hotels, they have airports, they have connections," he said. "So if we say tomorrow can you host a New Zealand team or a Cook Islands team Tuvalu says that they can't. "Unfortunately there's not one hotel which a team could stay in in Tuvalu." But the OFC says it's eager to continue working with Tuvalu in its bid. "We're keen to invest some money to help get a stadium and if we're talking about $200,000 or $300,000 then we're happy to facilitate and find these funds so Tuvalu can get a membership," Mr Nicholas said. "But the problem with Tuvalu football at this present time is they haven't even submitted a formal application to FIFA... because the last file is incomplete."

the national level in 2011 when he was named Canadian Rugby Championship co-Player of the Year. Burnaby Lake Rugby Club coach Kris de Scossa says Dolesau has been the player of the club for a number of seasons and that he deserved the recognition. Hes a national calibre athlete and has the qualities that it takes to perform at an elite level, he said. Hes electric and has the ability to hit rocket speed in about three steps. Hes a great option to have for us as a back up goal kicker as well. Dolesau is the first Burnaby Lake rep to be named Player of the Year since Pat Riordan was recognised with the honours in the 2002-03 season. Dolesau had God, his teammates and coaches to thank for his new-found fame. I feel honoured. But all praises to the Lord, my teammates and the coaching staff for the great season.
