Portfolio and Program Management

Both of Program and portfolio management are focusing on the big goals of the entire organization. Portfolio is a group of projects which are linked together and have the same goals or specifications and portfolio management is art and science of applying knowledge, tools and techniques to achieve the goals for the organization (Morris & Pinto, 2007). According to my company failed in Project / Construction Management they are a service provider. We provide management service to our client and manage their organizations and projects and ensure that the work is going according to their expectations. For each project we establish PMO within the organization and assign our team to manage client projects (program management) and try to develop organization strategies as required and find out the criteria of success. The major problem the company face it always is that because we are working from the client organization we are always collide with client team who try to apply their vision. Sometimes work environment became as a war area and there is nothing to do. Our team tries to create a good relationship with client staff to decrease this issue but sometimes unexpected things happened. Morris & Pinto (2007) stated that portfolio management is to maintain company identity and ensure the linkage among projects and its benefits, this portfolio way in managing strategy. For managing multi projects managing the strategies are to provide a map and procedures to mitigate the risk and develop it tools to meet projects goals with corporation goals. Portfolio and program management techniques become very important when we are talking about business goals, managing single project individually will not achieve the expected benefits for the organization. The weak linkage between projects team and high level management team may will take the corporation to fail. The strategy for the company must be reviewed frequently to update the strategy plan for the company and to drive the projects in the right way.
