Christ the King Mission Statement
The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

Dear CTK Family Member,

Page 3

Service of the Deacon Among the many tasks a permanent deacon has at home, work and at the Parish, the Deacon is called to a life of prayer. With the years of preparation for Ordination, the candidate learns how to integrate prayer at every level. This prayer life with his spouse and family enables the Deacon to do the work and ministry he is called . Adoration, Mass, Rosary and good worksall elements in the life of a deacon. The Deacons of our parish and every diocesan parish take opportunities to spend time teaching the children in our religious education program on Wednesdays and Sundays at CTK. Each are called to visit the sick, homebound, elderly and dying. The deacon spends time with families of loved ones who have died in their homes, nursing homes and hospitals. Our Deacons bring the Body of Christ to the homebound, they are even in positions of leadership within the parish. These diocesan men spend time in formation at retreats, evenings of reflection, fraternity with other brother deacons and their wives. Did you know some deacons are married , some are celibate, some have families, some even retire from full ministry? These are men of faith and integrity, called to serve with the Bishop and Pastors in the Church of Joliet. Thank you to Deacon Wayne, Deacon Frank and Deacon Peter. We are grateful for the support and participation of Mary Ellen, Camille and Barb. Of course, we never forget our deacons who rest with the Lord, Deacon Fred and Deacon Phillip Gavin. Did you know that one of our parishioners son is a deacon in our dioceseDeacon Phil Rehemer. Last of all, two men of our parish are being called to the possibility of discernment to the Permanent Deaconate for The Church of Joliet. Please pray for these men and their families. Just wanted to share a reflection on the life and ministry of a Deacon. Please remember our parish deacons in prayer every First Saturday of the month.

In our effort to improve communication, Christ the King Parish has instituted a telephone broadcast system that will enable personnel to notify all households by phone within minutes of an emergency or unplanned event. The service may also be used from time-to-time to communicate general announcements or reminders. This service is provided by GroupCast, a company specializing in mass-communications. NOTE: 1) This requires NO registration by you on the GroupCast website. 2). All information and contact numbers are strictly secure and confidential and are only used for the purposes described herein. Here is some specific information you should know: Caller ID: The Call ID will display 630-6291717, which is the main number for Christ the King Parish. Live Answers: There is a short pause at the beginning of the message, usually just a few seconds. Answer your phone as you normally would; hello and hold for the message to begin. Multiple hellos will delay the message. Inform all family members who may answer your phone of this process . Answering Machines: The system will detect that your machine has answered and will play the recording to your machine. The maximum number of rings before hang-up is five. Make sure your machine answers after four rings, no more than five or you may miss the message. Message Repeat: At the end of the message you will be prompted to press one to hear the message again. This is very helpful when a child answers the phone and hands it to a parent, who can then repeat the message in its entirety. If you have any questions please call Eileen Maggiore at 630-396-6076 or email Eileen@ctklombard.org

Year of Faith 2012-2013 Have You Noticed the CDs in the Narthex?

Page 5

In one of the most inspiring CDs we have ever offered on the Virgin Mary, Dr. Scott Hahn reveals incredible insights on the Biblical basis for the Catholic teachings regarding Mary as the Ark of the New Covenant. This presentation will help shatter many misconceptions and clearly demonstrate how Catholic teachings are unmistakably rooted in Sacred Scripture.
Following the presentation is a bonus segment from a prior talk by Dr. Hahn, "Why Do We Have a Pope?"

Parishioner Comments
Wow! This is by far one of the most inspiring CDs I have heard so far! I can't say enough about it! William - Spring Hill, FL Excellent! Great presentation - important information. This increases devotion and reverence for our Holy Mother. Alina - Doral, FL

Shower for Baby Jesus

Please join the CCW at Mass on Monday, December 16, at 8:30 am. Mass will be followed by a Shower for Baby Jesus in the PLC. A continental breakfast will be served. You can bring unwrapped baby items - clothing, diapers, wipes, etc.- which will be donated to Womans Choice Services.

Jesus INCARNATE
It is this season of the year that we especially prepare for the coming of Christthe coming of Christ as a babe at Christmas and the coming of Christ as Son of God. The words in our Creed which we recite each Sunday have changed. We now say Christ was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, whereas we used to say he was born of the Virgin Mary. The banner on the side wall is representative of these words and reminds us of these truths of our faith. It also serves as a reminder of our decade a day parish practice for Advent. If you look carefully at the design of the banner, the upper bar of the J in Jesus represents the nails used in the crucifixion of our Blessed Savior at Calvary. This is again reflected in the song used here at Christ the King in the great festive Masses of Christmas:

Wood of the cradle, wood of the cross, bearing a lifetime of joy and of loss, who is your loved one? Who could he be, born in a manger to die on a tree. This, this is Jesus the Lord, here in the body and blood outpoured. Come, come, come walk in his ways. Kneel at the manger and rise from the grave.
We reflect on these truths of our Catholic Christian faith as we prepare for the blessings of Christmas and remind ourselves once again of the great paschal mystery.

Blessing of the Advent Wreath at Home

All: Make the sign of the Cross Leader: Our help is in the name of the Lord All: Who made heaven and earth. Leader: Brothers and sisters, listen to the words of the prophet Isaiah 9:1-2, 5-6 Leader: The Word of the Lord All: Thanks be to God Lord God, let your blessing come upon us as we light the candles of the wreath. May the wreath and its light be a sign of Christs promise to bring us salvation. May he come quickly and not delay. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Simbang Gabi Mass Tuesday, December 17th. @ 7:30 pm

Christ The King Church will host the Simbang Gabi mass, a Filipino Christmas tradition sponsored by the Filipino Community of Lombard on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 @ 7:30 P.M. Reception after the mass will be at the CTK School Gym. Simbang Gabi is a traditional novena of masses to help the faithful prepare spiritually for Christmas. It was introduced into the Philippines in the 17th Century by the Spanish conquistadores. On the nine days leading up to Christmas, villagers gather to celebrate mass before dawn so that farmers and fishermen can participate before the early start of their day's labor. In fact, flickering candles in the star -shaped parols (star-shaped lanterns) adorn the humble houses and give light to the early-morning churchgoers on their way to Simbang Gabi. In the U.S., the practice has been adapted to local conditions, with the mass being moved to the evening hours for practical purposes. All parishioners and non-parishioners are cordially invited to attend the mass and the reception. Please come and witness this beautiful tradition!!!!

St. Lawrence Seminary High School Where Boys Become Men of Christ.
St. Lawrence Seminary High School is a Catholic college preparatory boarding high school owned and operated by the Capuchin Franciscan friars. St. Lawrence is a place where students live, learn, work and pray together. Our global student population experiences a variety of cultures, traditions, ways of life, and diversity of thought. Students come to St. Lawrence because they seek a foundation that will give them the academic, social, and spiritual tools to become religious and lay leaders in the Catholic Church and the world. Besides the college prep curriculum, students and parents choose SLS because of its religious formation program in the Catholic tradition with an emphasis on vocational discernment and service to others through ministry in the emerging church. The beginnings of my vocation were strengthened by my experience of St. Lawrence Seminary. My parents loved to come and visit me. Parents do you have questions? Call Fr. Donation of Monument to Sisters

The donor of our monument decided that the condition of the monument was not holding its own. The donor thus asked the monument company to replace it with a stronger stone. The company agreed and replaced the first monument with our present new marble monument. They just told us to destroy the first monument. Our Operations Manager along with the Administration Commission gave me a recommendation to give the first monument to our diocesan parish Sacred Heart in Hopkins Park. The sisters in community there graciously accepted the monument. Javier, Tony and Victor of our staff went down first to make the concrete base and prepare the area. Then the second time they brought the granite monument to parish to be placed on base and secured it. The parish community, the poor of the area and the sisters were grateful for this act of charity. Thank you again to our donors for their pursuit of a new monument. The CTK service team and the sisters of Hopkins Park. Fr. Peter
