Italy, officially the Republic of Italy is a unitary parliamentary republic in Southern Europe. To the north, Italy borders France, Switzerland, Austria, and Slovenia, and is approximately delimited by the Alpine watershed. To the south, it consists of the entirety of the Italian Peninsula and the two Mediterranean islands of Sicily and Sardinia, in addition to many smaller islands. Italy's capital and largest city, Rome, has for centuries been the leading political and religious centre of Western civilisation, as the capital of the Roman Empire and of Christianity. Beginning from the 11th century, Italian cities rose to great prosperity through shipping, commerce and banking while culture flourished especially during the Renaissance, with scholars, artists and polymaths such as Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo, Michelangelo and Machiavelli. The country's total area is 301,230 square kilometres and has 60,626,442 inhabitants according to 1 January 2011 municipal records. Thanks to the great longitudinal extension of the peninsula and the mostly mountainous internal conformation, the climate of Italy is highly diverse. In most of the inland northern and central regions, the climate ranges from humid subtropical to humid continental and oceanic. In particular, the climate of the Po valley geographical region is mostly continental, with harsh winters and hot summers.

Italy has no shortage of stunning cities to explore, and if youre using the cheapest car rental deals to get around then theres nothing to stop you discovering lots of different locations. Rome is of course a number one spot to explore for its history. Meanwhile Florence has beautiful art, and Venice will offer a city like none ever visited before.

In my opinion, Italy is a great place to visit because the people are warm, the food is excellent and has so much history and so much culture you could spend your like exploring just one city. There is so much to see there and so much to take in.
