During my internship this summer I was a graphic design intern at Baldwin & Lyons Inc. Founded in 1930, Baldwin & Lyons is a publicly traded company that specializes in marketing and underwriting insurance for the transportation industry. What I learned: Taught myself how to operate the adobe creative suite programs (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) Importance of communication Never fall in love with one idea, it will block others from coming Look forward to constructive criticism!

Projects: 1. Habitat for Humanity a. Learned to importance of brand standards. Not being able to alter the color, size or shape of the logo or font in any way. (Consistency is key) 2. Sagamore Notepad, and Notebook a. Worked directly with the marketing department to create promotional items. First time designing something to meet someones expectations. b. Seeing the final printed product was awesome. Knowing that I created it, and now Im holding it in my hands. 3. Henrys Card a. 5 year old who is battling cancer at Peyton Mannings Children Hospital. B&L sponsored a superhero themed room at hospital, and Henry helped cut the ribbon. Sent a gift basket full of superhero toys, and card. 4. The Quill a. Golden Hanger Award (FITS INTO ACADEMIC GOALS) Through this internship my main intentions going in, were to try and find a possible career that incorporates both of my areas of study here at Hanover. Which are communications and studio art. I thought that graphic design would be the closest bridge to using my creativity in a business type setting. << (FROM MY READING) The Brand Gap (Marty Neumeir) Talks about the importance of design and branding can make or break a companies success. He also gave insight on how to bridge the distance between business stategy and design, in order to create a harmonious relationship that will further better the success of the company. <<Aside from all of the technical skills I learned, I also learned a lot about myself>> (WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT MYSELF) Dont like the really traditional/ conservative workplace. The atmosphere was so formal and boring that I found it difficult to get inspiration from staring at the colorless fluorescent cubicle. Although I didnt mind dressing in the business attire everyday, I would much rather prefer an open, relaxed environment that would allow my creativity to flow. Helps get inspiration for different projects.

In-house graphic design programs has a lot of rules o Brand standards o Not as much freedom to create what you want Having experienced what being an in-house graphic designer was like; it has pushed me to discover what graphic design would be like working as a freelance graphic designer, or for a specific graphic design firm.

The experience that I gained through this internship has given me a sense of hope and opened the horizons for what can be possible for me as a future career. I know that I have a lot of potential in the graphic design field, and I cant wait to see where it will lead me in the future. Thank you!
