Healthier holidays...how to handle season's stress Ideas on activities, relationships, finances, gatherings The holidays are a time of joy, fun, and goodwill. But they can also bring stress in terms of too many activities compressed into too little time, lots of expenses, potentially painful emotions, and just too much stuff going on all at once. Here are some ideas for keeping your holidays healthier...emotionally, physically, and financially. Stress Have a holiday game plan. Focus on organizing your priorities and budget, and commit to the plan. "Good enough" is the new "perfect." Rather than trying to do everything to keep everyone happy, focus on the one thing you and your family love to do, and enjoy the process of doing it. Create new traditions. Pick one that better suits your lifestyle today instead of one from your childhood. Slow down. Carve out at least 15 minutes to unwind and relax each day. Learn to say "No." Or remove something else from your plan to make up for lost time. Relationships The holidays can bring up painful memories of lost loved ones. Acknowledge your feelings of grief and the "anniversary reaction." Set differences aside when families and friends gather. When conflicts arise, practice forgiveness and set aside issues until a more appropriate time can be made for discussion. Create new traditions with your family. Avoid jamming activities into the schedule that "must be done" just because you've always done them that way. Take care of yourself. Make time for relaxation, recreation, and fitness activities you enjoy. Finances Look at last year's budget. Aim for spending less, or no more than the same amount. Make a shopping list, with names, gift ideas, and spending amounts. Leave credit cards at home. Use your list to calculate how much cash you will need for shopping. Consider alternative ideas for giving: donate to charities, make homemade gifts, or have a fun gift exchange. Set a cut-off date, so you don't spend money needlessly at the last minute just to get the shopping done. (cont. pg. 2)

(cont.) Eating Set good intentions at home and work. Send guests home with leftovers, or bring healthy alternatives to gatherings. Don't skip meals and then gorge at a holiday party. It's better to eat something before you go to a big party where you know there will be a lot of food. Increase physical activity. Park further away from a mall entrance, wear a pedometer, engage in outdoor winter activities like ice skating at the local rink with the family. Create healthier versions of "old favorite" recipes. Substitute ingredients to slim down those holiday goodies. Focus on the festivities. Enjoy the time you spend with others, rather than focusing on what's on the table. From: www.MegellanHealth.com

India Missions Update

Pray for our team in Dimapur, India. They are training house church leaders this week. Several have received Christ and the Gospel has been shared with many. Here is one comment that they posted Monday night Today was our first day of our training sessions. The first lesson this morning had several passages from the Old Testament in it, which brought to light a problem. Many of the people in the training session either had no Bible or had only the New Testament. Kumar quickly came to the rescue, though. He had a box of Hindi and a box of Assamese Bibles that we were able to distribute this morning to people who had never owned a full Bible. The thing you need to understand is that the cost of one of these Bibles is roughly $3. That doesnt sound like much until you remember that for most of these people that is at least a full days pay. What a blessing for all of us to be able to give these Bibles to these people who will cherish it and study it with such enthusiasm! Take a look at the photo below as all the people with a new Bible raise the new Bible to show their thanks for the amazing gift of Gods word in their hands.

Pray for the unreached people of India.
