MOBILE LEARNING
You’ve never experienced education like this before. UOIT’s national
award-winning mobile learning environment allows you to connect
with your professors and peers any time, anywhere – and puts you
one step ahead come graduation.
UOIT is a leader among North American universities in implementing
and using course- and industry-specific software for laptop learning.
You will receive a high-end laptop at the beginning of your studies
and your professors will develop sophisticated course content using
a powerful campus-wide online learning management system.
One of the greatest advantages of the mobile learning program is
that all students have equal access to the same technology,
resources and services.
Inside or outside of the classroom, you can make quality computer-
based presentations, conduct Internet research, work electronically
on your own or with other students and have seamless access to all
online resources. An annual mobile-computing fee covers the use of
your hardware learning tools, extensive technical support, virus
protection, high-speed Internet, printing services, insurance and a
wide range of program-specific software. In addition, all laptops
are refreshed with appropriate software each year and upgraded
every two years. We’re committed to giving you even more value for
your education and your investment in technology while studying at
UOIT.

Tuition at Ontario universities is based on four factors: provincial
government policy, a student’s university and program, whether a
student is considered domestic or international, and the student’s
year of study and number of credit hours completed.
As a first-year student, the following is a list of some of the costs that
you can expect. Tuition and all other fees are based on the 2009-2010
academic year and are subject to change. This information will be

CAMPUS LIFE
UOIT understands that your university experience is about more than
just the challenges you face in the classroom. From your first day on
campus, and even before, you’ll find activities and pursuits that meet
your own unique interests.
A variety of fun activities and informative sessions are planned to
welcome you to campus and assist you with the transition to university.
In addition, the Student Life office offers a comprehensive first-year
student orientation program throughout the academic year.
Many students get connected through dozens of campus clubs,
including groups that relate to your program of study such as Med
Lab United and the Justice Society. Other students may pursue a
popular interest or topic like the UOIT Triathlon Club, while
organizations such as Students Against Social Injustice and Rotaract
work toward a better world by advocating on key social issues.
We even offer a Co-curricular Recognition program that supports and
recognizes your participation and leadership in campus activities.
Leadership awards and recognition ceremonies are held for graduating
students in the spring.
E.P. Taylor’s, one of UOIT’s campus pubs, is located in the Student
Centre and is a popular spot to catch a regular lineup of great
entertainment for all ages, including comedy at lunch and Campus
Idol. It even merited mention from the Harvard Crimson, online
edition. “To realize the potential of an on-campus pub at Harvard,
one need only look at places like E.P. Taylor’s at UOIT,” wrote the
Crimson. “With comedy shows every Monday, pub nights every
Wednesday, and huge all-campus events Friday and Saturday, the
establishment is everything any student could wish for.”
If your interests run more towards the political arena, you may want
to consider the Student Association, which works hard to serve the
needs of all students. If you’re more the happy host, our Student
Ambassador program could be just your thing. Student Ambassadors
are proactive leaders who introduce prospective students and their
families to the UOIT community by leading campus tours and providing
a current student’s perspective.
We also offer student life programs, which promote intellectual and
personal growth by connecting you to existing campus opportunities
and assisting with the development of new initiatives. Staff liaises
with the Student Association, the Student Centre, residences, student
clubs, academic units and all student services to enhance your
student satisfaction.
Finally, what’s a university campus without its own radio station? The
Riot acts as your voice on campus and beyond by broadcasting over
the Internet at www.theriotradio.com.

Oshawa and the General Motors Centre, where top musical acts from
around the world perform, along with the legendary Oshawa Generals
junior hockey club, which has developed dozens of current and former
professional hockey players.
Durham Region is also home to great slopes for skiing and
snowboarding, all within minutes of campus. Alternatively, you may
want to pursue opportunities to take part in competitive or recreational
cricket and soccer, or hit the links at numerous area golf courses.
The region’s vibrant cultural scene offers a variety of art galleries,
festivals, attractions and fascinating museums for you to explore,
and the music scene is alive and thriving to meet all tastes and
interests.
From unique boutiques to one-stop shopping malls and connected
big-box stores, you’ll find all your shopping needs and more. The area
is also home to several large flea markets with hundreds of vendors
and great deals to fit your student budget. And no matter your favourite

GETTING HERE –
WE ARE CLOSER
THAN YOU THINK
Located in Oshawa, our campus is less than an hour from all points
in the GTA whether you decide to get here by car or by bus. And,
thanks to a newly expanded transit routes and the U-Pass, which
provides you with unlimited access during the academic year to
Durham Region Transit and GO Transit bus service in Durham Region,
getting here has never been easier or more affordable.
Durham Region Transit provides bus service in all the region’s
communities, including recently added routes to campus from north
Durham.
More good news – as a UOIT student, you pay a reduced fee for GO
Transit bus service to and from the campus from locations outside of
the region, such as Scarborough, North York and Markham. That
means you’re an easy 39-minute trip to campus from the Scarborough
Town Centre, and 48 minutes from the Langstaff GO Station.
