The Business Rules Viewer is used to search, view and print Business Rules. History of changes to codes and values in the Codes Management System. Business Values in the Codes Management System are sets of valid entries for a Coded Domain. Values may be associated to codes. For instance, the value "Illinois" could be represented by the code "IL" All activity that occurs between January 1 and December 31. The basis used to measure production and expense results. The accumulated, permanent resources a company gets from owners and customers. The value of the portion of assets that a company owns and that are not restricted by obligations to creditors. The composition of a business's funding structure ratio. Generally, a piece of equipment having a value of $250 or more assigned a property number, put into accounting books and depreciated over time. The process by which the ending cash balance of one month becomes the beginning balance of the following month. "Carry-over" also means the use of losses or tax credits from one period to reduce taxes in another period. The sum total of all claim payments plus case reserves. The dollar reserve established by a claim representative (or Home Office on large referred claims) estimating what the claim will ultimately cost when settled. Also known as field reserve. A measure of money taken versus the money paid out on a periodic basis, usually monthly. The end result (usually a spreadsheet) of predicting the future inflow and outflow of cash to the cash balance already on hand.

Definition Cash taken in by a business. A policy transferred (ceded) to the JUA or Reinsurance Facility and whose premiums, losses and expenses will be shared by the industry. A maximum limit placed on the percent of premium or policies that can be ceded to a single company. Penalties can be assessed if the limit is surpassed. A data type identifying the type of data as a fixed-length character string containing alphanumeric characters. Same as Claims Reported. Claims opened for payment as a result of contact by insured, claimants or due to subsequent investigation. The overhead costs of operating the Claim Department including all direct expenses plus the change in Reserve for Investigation. The expense of settling claims, including certain legal and other fees, and the expense of administering the claim-adjustment process. Claim brought to a conclusion by either CWA (Closed With Amount) or CWP (Closed Without Payment). Claims opened for payment as a result of contact by insured, claimants or due to subsequent investigation. Business Classes are logical groupings of business objects within a business view. A Class, such as Claim Payment, contains Objects, such as Claim Number and Line Code. The date when this Domain information will no longer be valid. A Repository Area containing Coded Domains and Rules that are new or are being modified in the Codes Management System. To modify a Domain, the Domain is copied from Production into CMS Staging, modified and then moved into Production with its related items, replacing the previous version. AKA in CMS as "in Edit." The effective date when this Domain information will be or became valid. If the effective date is unknown for the Domain, this is the date this information was entered into CMS. When codes and values are changed the codes being replaced would receive an "end date" and the new codes would have an "effective date." The CNS File Share displays a list of documents related to the Common Name Space strategy. Various areas of Allstate use different codes to mean the same thing. For example one area may use F = Female and M = Male while another area uses 01 = Female and 02 = Male. Each set of these codes is called a collection. A table of all the Business Values for a Domain, associated codes and the collections that use that code. A Coded Domain is a Domain that has codes and values. Coded Domains are managed by the Codes Management System. See also Domain. Previously called "CMS Viewer Reports", these are reports on information in the Codes Management System, including Domains, Codes and Values and which Fields contain specific Code Collections. The Allstate Acronym List is one of these reports. Codes are numbers or words used to represent the values for a Domain. Sets of codes and associated values are considered valid for Coded Domains. For instance, the code "IL" could represent Illinois. A set of codes and associated values is considered a Collection.

Codified Domains

Codified Domains in UCT Coding Manual Collateral Collection Collection Data Type Collection Type

Definition The Codes & Values Wizard finds codes and values based on business names. Business Names include Domains, Domain Synonyms, Attributes and Preferred Field Names. The search of business names can be limited by Application. This is sometimes a more effective way to find codes and values than using Advanced Search or drilling down through the lists. A domain (field) that has codes and their value definitions associated with it. All fields (attributes) have a domain assigned to them. A domain can be equal to a field or can aggregate fields at a higher level such as the case of State Name which aggregates Garaging State, U. S. State, Risk State, Licensing State, etc. to State Name so that all these fields are using the same codes. Collections (sets of codes) are loaded into the UCT (Universal Code Translation) tables and can be used either to provide code/decode (02 = Male), or translations between collections (02 = M = Male). The Coding Manual is the MAX Coding Manual used by Pricing, MAX and the field to verify MAX Coding. A claim on some asset of the borrower to secure a loan and reduce the risk of the lender. If the borrower defaults, the assets can be sold to reduce the lender's loss. A collection is a set of Codes or Business Values. A Domain may have several collections, each identifying valid values for a field. Collections are identified by a collection number and name. The data type for the codes entered for that collection, such as Char, Numeric, etc. If the collection contains Values only (no codes), the type is left blank. Collection Type refers to the source or type of data within the collection. For example, if the data has special characters or blanks, this information is helpful to developers who will be using the data. Values may be External (External Source), Object Identifier (CANVAS OID), Special Character, Standard, Standard with Blank, Undetermined or Value Only (no codes). Columns are also called Fields or Data Elements, which are more general terms for a data item. A column name identifies the data stored in that column. The sum of the loss ratio and expense ratio. It is the percent of earned premium, which is used to pay all incurred losses and expenses. Annualized premium of issued Commercial policies up to an established maximum per policy. Remuneration, such as a percentage of money that is paid to an independent contractor, for a given activity, such as sales. Collection used in Universal Code Translation tables to translate from one set of codes to another. The common collection integrates all business values for a domain, associating a meaningless, sequential code with each unique business value. Common stock represents ownership of a corporation. The common stockholder is the residual claimant, i.e., the last one to receive assets if the firm is liquidated. The common stockholder, however, can benefit from growth through appreciation of share and increased cash dividends. The result of the EA Conversion Analysis Exercise, this report will show NOA compensation, production allowance, and OEA minus expenses, which should equal net revenue. The same is true for EAs, commission less expenses equal net revenue. This will be projected for both year one and year ten. Keep in mind that these projections are based on today's dollars. A Condition object is used to limit or define the values of another data field. Examples include, "year to date" or "current month". This is one of the types of objects in a Business View. Usually driven by PIF or earned premium. A new term with SAP. An area of responsibility or location that generates costs. Cost Centers are similar to our current Company/Office/Department/Function codes. A new term with SAP. These are similar to our current ledger/subledger combinations. It is the ability to categorize costs. A new term with SAP. The location where both direct and indirect costs are recorded. Currently, this is being done through departments. In SAP, these are three different types of cost objects: Cost Center, Internal Order and Work Breakdown Structure. The interest rate, inferred cost of retained earnings, inferred cost of issuance of new shares, or blended average of interest and equity capital costs that a firm experience in acquiring funds. It is the discount rate that should be used in the capital budgeting process, but no universally applicable mechanism for calculating it exists. The Data Administration Viewer is used to generate customized reports on Logical Data Models, Business Access Models and their associated objects. An organization Data Access Type is the type of Data Store used to store the data. It could be a database management system or file storage system. Some Data Access Types are DB2, Oracle, VSAM. Data cleansing improves the quality of business data by eliminating redundant and anomalous entries and applying standard formats. A Data Column object type is an object that has its data stored in a column in the database, as opposed to a different type of object, such as Derived or Condition or Metric. See Object Type. Data elements is a general term for data, also referred to as Fields or Columns. This is the data stored in a database or file system. In the Data Management industry, Data Marts are subsets of a Data Warehouse, containing data for a specific function. At Allstate, the term Data Mart was used with the now defunct Enterprise Data Warehouse. When the EDW Data Warehouse was replaced by the Allcorp Data Warehouse, the term was changed to Business Objects Universes, because the tool used to access the data warehouse changed from Brio to Business Objects. The metadata you see in the MetaData Viewer is the source for the names and definitions used in the query tools. Data Profiling refers to the process of obtaining information on the contents of data stored in a database. for instance, it will identify if a particular column has data, the percentage that contain data or are null, if there are codes, the percent that each code is used. In the repository, Data Profiling contains documents that identify this information. This information is then also displayed on the Column Detail pages in the Allstate Data Guide. Data Stores are groups of Files, also known as databases, instances or file groups. The type of data that may be stored in that column as defined by the data base management system, such as Number, Char, VARCHAR2, etc. Name of a specific instance of a database. Name of a specific instance of a DB2 database. Identifies the DB2 connection used to access the DB2 database. Name of a specific instance of an Oracle database. Total debt divided by total assets. Definition A dollar amount a policyholder chooses to self-insure by agreeing to pay this out-of-pocket cost when a loss occurs. Failure to meet obligations of an agreement. A Definition is provided for every metadata item where possible on the List and Detail pages. Definitions are from various sources, depending on the metadata and may be combinations of definitions from various sources. A decrease in the value of property over a period of time due to wear and tear of obsolescence. Depreciation is used to help determine the actual cash value of property at time of loss. Derived data is calculated "on the fly" by summing data, multiplying data, or performing a complex calculation. This is one of the types of an Object. See Object Type. Expense Charges which are not allocated to another Allstate Company due to their unique relationship to the Company incurring them. The relationship of claims settled (dispose of) to total reported claims used to measure the expediency with which claims are being settled. Distributed assets from corporate earnings to corporate owners. Dividends may be in the form of cash, stock, or tangible property. Cash dividends are declared by the directors of a corporation. Cash dividends are the only returns that most investors receive until they sell their stock. Domains are business names for data. Domains are linked to Fields, Attributes, Collections, Business Values and Rules. Coded Domains have a specific set of valid values. Non-coded Domains do not have specific values or codes. A Domain Synonym may exist for a Domain when the Domain is referenced by a different name. This enables finding domains when they are known by other names. Domain Type identifies whether the Domain is Coded (has codes and values) or Non-Coded (no specific code sets required). The number of coverage (auto) or policies (property) we have insured per our contract. They are measured on a car year or house year basis. The amount of net premium written (net of reinsurance) that becomes earned as the policy period develops and the insurance protection is provided. The Edm Admin tools (Enterprise Data Management Administration tools) are used to maintain users, groups and tools and perform other system maintenance tasks related to metadata tools. It also allows viewing a log of Events (for example, when a data model or a file group was loaded into the repository) and sending emails to user groups. The month (and day) in which policy is issued. A standard used to measure the effectiveness of manpower. (i.e., Employees/PIF) A change made to an existing policy which may result in a change in premium based on a change in a coverage provided or an applicable rating factor. It could be a change in coverage or the addition and/or deletion of a car on an automobile policy. Entities are business names that identify a person, place, thing, concept, or event that Allstate needs for business. Logical Data Models contain Entities which contain Attributes. By linking Entities to File names, we can find files without having to know their technical database names. One or more attributes in an entity that are used to identify the contents within the entity. A Primary Key, for instance, uniquely distinguishes one instance of that entity from all other instances that may exist for that entity. A Foreign Key is a Key in a different entity, included in this entity to identify an association.

External Models are created external to Allstate and are stored only in the External Models area in the repository. These models do not contain domain or code information, are not integrated with other repository objects and are not located in the Production area. See Model Type. A Coded Domain may be from an external source, such as a company outside Allstate. Under a Reinsurance Facility, business directly written by a carrier and then ceded (premium and losses) to the Facility with no resulting impact on the Region's P&L. Under a Reinsurance Facility, each carrier received a pro-rata portion (transfer) of the Facility results, which are the sum of the Facility Direct business. The transfer impacts the Region's P&L. An analysis of state loss results between Allstate and the industry, which permits a comparison of Allstate's changing pure premium levels (by coverage of PPA and by line for Owners). One or more characteristics will often be grouped together forming an analytical combination or group of related contexts by which said measurement can be analyzed. A Metric Synonym is a different name for a metric than the original or standard name. Metrics are given names in order to reference them, but a metric could be known by other names. Synonyms enable finding metrics when they are known by other names. Model Type identifies the level that the Logical Data Model conforms to data modeling standards. The types are: Standardized, Tailored, External, and Business Access Model. A rating agency that assigns credit ratings to bonds and other debt issued by businesses and governments and insurance companies. Its ratings of insurance companies are based on asset quality, profitability, capital adequacy, asset-liability matching, liquidity, strength of company products, distribution systems, business strategy, regulations that may affect strength, management, company diversification, competition, and affiliations. The ratings indicate relative financial strength and ability to pay claims. The alphabetical ratings are Aaa Exceptional. The percentage of closed claims that were closed with amount. The formula is: CWA divided by Claims Closed. A ratio of claims closed without payment (either no payment or only an expense payment) to total claims reported. The relationship of pending claims to total reported claims. The difference between two amounts. Physical mappings identify the fields and columns where each Domain is used. It is called physical because it refers to the physical database (as opposed to a logical data model) and mapping because the Domain information from CMS and the logical data model are mapped (linked) to the database information.
