Introduction of Computer Computer is an electronic device, which performs mechanical and logical operation at the very high speed.

It converts the raw data useful information and suitable form. The following pairs of parts we called computer, which are given in the below. Monitor The screen which is an example of output device is called a Monitor. The Monitor is also known as Video Display Terminal of Video Display Unit. The Monitors are classified into two types, which are given in the below. Output Device Output device used to taking the result or information from a computer and provide them to user is called computer output device. Like as: VDU (Monitor), Printer, Plotter, Cathode Ray Tube, Speaker etc. Input Device A device which provides or feed the data man to machine communication with computer is called input device. Some examples of input device are: Keyboard, Mouse, Scanner, Joy Stick, Tracker, Digitizer, Point of Sale Terminal, Optical Mark Reader, Light Pen, Disk Drive, Optical Character Reader, Magnetic Ink Character Readers, Bar Code and Bar Code Reader, Touch Screen, Touch Pad, Speech Input Device etc. Memory The computers memory is a scratch pad where information which includes both programs and data, is kept while it is being worked on. A computers memory consists of a large number of storage spaces known as cell or locations, which are organized into units of bytes, each comprising 8 bits. No matter what kinds of information are being stored, it is coded in some particular form of bits, which is interpreted in a way that is appropriate to the kind of data. The same memory bytes are used to record program instruction codes, numeric or alphabetic data. RAM: Random Access Memory or RAM, as it is popularly known, is the key working area of the memory that is used for our problems and data. This area is often called the user memory. When we talk of the amount of memory a computer has, we are actually talking of user memory. It varies from computer to computer can handle. The main features of RAM is that can be read from or written onto any location and can be accessed randomly. In other words reading and writing onto any location takes the same amount of time. The contents of RAM are available as the computer is not switched off. Hence, it is called volatile memory. Hard Disk: Hard Disks are commonly used as secondary storage media in microcomputers and large computers. A Hard Disk is made of metallic disk coated with metallic oxide on both sides. The hard disk is permanent fixed in a drive unit in case of microcomputers. To increase the string capacity several disks are packed together and mounted on common drive to form a disk pack.
