(Due October 22) 1. Give a title to a scientific research and answer the following questions: Equivalent fluid model to describe wave propagation in diferent porous material a) What is the subject of the research? Computational modeling of one plane wave propagating in porous material based on theoric model of Equivalent fluid. b) What is the importance of this research? Computational modeling is useful to preview the acoustic behavior of material and relate the variables of the model with parameters characterizing the material. c) How this subject was studied before and which were the conclusions? The main parameters and analytical equations used in describing the wave propagation in computer modeling were setted according theories of Biot. The dependence among the parameters and the wave equation propagating inside porous materials were found and therefore the attenuation curve of this wave was plotted. The analytical and experimental curves plotted presented similar behavior in the range of frequencies of study. d) What is the difference between this research and other studies? The previous studies considered only one layer of porous materials. The present study uses the same theory of Biot to model two coupled layers and different internal configuration of porous material. e) Which are the materials and methods necessary for this research? The experimental measurement of parameters (used to describe the wave propagation inside material) and of impedance requires specific laboratory settings for each parameter. The material consist of basically porous materials samples to make the experimental measurement. f) What can be obtained with this research and why do you think it is possible to achieve such a result? This research describes the type of configuration of acoustic materials and the influence of parameters that ensure better attenuation in specific bands of frequency. Theoretical and analytical models are compared to identify the limitations of the theory in describing the acoustic behavior. 2) Combine the answers for the questions (a), (b), (e) and (f) to write a paragraph with 150 to 250 words. The model of equivalent fluid provide the essential formulation to describe one plane wave propagating in porous material. The acoustic behavior of materials can be experimentally measured, and this is expressed through absorption curves .

The analytical curves of attenuation represent the performance of material and its configuration. The evaluation of the curves is made comparing the plotted curves . It is expected that characterizing the experimental parameters allow to use this information in the formulation to generate theoretical curves of absorption similar to experimental curves . The measurement of experimental parameters and impedance requires specific settings and use of laboratory samples more similar possible, because some essays are destructive . Also, to guarantee the statistically representative sample of the group is required that sufficient number of samples are provided. The type of configuration of acoustic materials and the influence of parameters ensure better attenuation in specific bands of frequency . Theoretical and analytical models are compared to identify the limitations of the theory in describing the acoustic behavior. 3) Combine the answers for the questions (a) to (f) to write between two and four paragraphs with a total of 250 to 500 words. Computational modeling of one plane wave propagating in porous material based on theoretical model of equivalent fluid is useful to preview the acoustic behavior of material and relate the variables of the model with parameters characterizing the material. At the same time is one efficient method that do not require high computational cost. The main parameters and analytical equations used in describing the wave propagation were setted according theories of equivalent fluid. Actually, there is other theoretical models that can be choice according the classification of material. Once found the dependence among the parameters and the wave equation propagating inside porous materials , it is possible focus in application for specific range of frequencies and optimization of material. Therefore the analytical attenuation curve can be plotted. The input information necessary comes from the experimental tests that determines each one of the specific parameter. The experimental attenuation curves are obtained by the method of impedance tube. It is expected that the analytical and experimental curves plotted present similar behavior in the range of frequencies of study. The previous studies considered only one layer of porous materials. The present study uses the same theory to model two coupled layers and different internal configuration of porous material. The size and shape of this present material porous are different. The experimental measurement of parameters (used to describe the wave propagation inside material) and of impedance requires specific laboratory settings for each parameter. The material consist of basically porous materials samples to make the experimental measurement. This research describes the type of configuration of acoustic materials and the influence of parameters that ensure better attenuation in specific bands of frequency. Theoretical and analytical models are compared to identify the limitations of the theory in describing the acoustic behavior.
