SAFETY DATA SHEET

Burdock Root [4:1] Powder Issue/Revision Date: 20th August 2013 Page: 10 of 13 16. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CONTINUED 16.4 ANIMAL TESTING POLICY DECLARATION In the long ago past [before the concern over animal testing] some of the excipients and some of the actives have been tested on animals. This is no longer conducted for these components. Both the TGA and NICNAS [Australian regulatory agencies which control the use of ALL ingredients used in therapeutics and cosmetics, respectively] require toxicity and safety testing on ALL new raw materials before they will allow their use in Australia. While the industry is developing non-animal test methods this still does not completely eliminate the need for animal testing. When available the industry uses these alternate tests in preference to animal testing. Typically these initial tests on a new substances will occur in the UK or USA in accordance with the regulatory agencies there, 5 to 10 years before the material is used in Australia. Based on these initial results, new substances are usually approved by the Australian regulatory agencies for use without further animal testing being required. New Directions Australia does not test raw materials on animals, neither initially or as a routine test, [nor by outside sources our behalf]. The product Suppliers for New Directions Australia do not test their products on animals, neither initially or as a routine test. None of New Directions Australia finished formulations are tested on animals, either initially or as a routine test, except, of course, humans in controlled efficacy tests and against bacteria in preservative efficacy testing. New Directions Australias Animal Cruelty-Free Policy extends to using ingredients and raw materials from vegetable sources whenever possible. 16.5 DISCLAIMER This Safety Data Sheet was prepared according to: Safe Work Australias Code of Practice for the Preparation of Safety Data Sheets for Hazardous Chemicals, [Publication date: 23/12/2011].
