Country Analysis Brief Overview

Japan is the world's largest importer of LNG, second largest importer of coal and the third largest net importer of oil. Japan relied on oil imports to meet about 42 percent of its energy needs in 2010. Japan relies on LNG imports for virtually all of its natural gas demand and is the worlds largest LNG importer. Japan was the worlds third largest producer of nuclear power after the US and France before the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident in March 2011.
