The EIL program administers the SLEP test. On the test was a map section. This would often cause problems because it which was different from any exercise we did in class. To help the students become familiar with the map exercise format we developed a practice exercise we call EILville.

The exercise provides a chance for students to practice their listening and their comprehension. It can also practice the vocabulary of directions all at the same time. Students need to listen very carefully and choose the correct answer. I think map reading is a good one for students in a writing class because it can require students to comprehend and write down the answer. Writing about directions according to the map would be a good writing assignment. Audio Recording Software There is a lot of software that can be used to record your voice to a computer. One piece of software I like is called Audacity. Audacity is a free download from http://audacity.sourceforge.net/.

Using MP3 Recorder is very useful when it comes to a speaking test. Students can just simply record their answers and then the teacher can listen later and grade them. Generally, a speaking test is face-to-face between a teacher and a student orally. I think recording could another way in a speaking test.
