Trey Childress Mrs. Holland English IV CP 26 October 2012 In the Star Wars trilogy, episodes four through six, Luke Skywalker is the ideal epic hero. In these movies, Luke proves not only to himself he is a powerful Jedi, but he proves it to the galaxy. Essentially, he becomes a Jedi, becomes one with the force, then destroys all the dark side that is still remaining in the galaxy. Luke Skywalker proves these epic hero accomplishments by becoming a Jedi Master, gathering his allies, and then conquering the evil darkside. Luke is one of the most powerful epic hero's of them all. Luke reflects the characteristics of an epic hero when he begins his journey to become the last of the Jedi. In episode four, Luke encountered by many life threatening battles, which tested his Jedi ways, such as Darth Vader. Luke had to fight off Darth Vader's stormstroopers when he and his friends penetrated Vader's defenses. In episode five, Luke fought in the battle at Hoth, the ice planet. Luke pursued his Jedi path even more in this episode because he had to defeat the attacks of the walkers trying to destroy the shield generator. He used his Jedi wisdom and insight to take down the walkers and defeat the army of Vader. As well as defeating Vader's army in episode four, Luke also starts to train with Jedi Master Yoda. Yoda teaches Skywalker to become one with the force so he could eventually defeat Darth Vader. In episode six, Luke finally becomes a Jedi Knight when he completes his training with Master Yoda. Soon after his training was complete Luke pursued a new quest which was to defeat Darth Vader and bring peace to the galaxy. Luke found Vader and contested him with his knowledge of the force as well as his

knowledge with his light saber. After dueling, Luke conquers Vader and the Sith Lord and becomes a Jedi Master. The path to becoming a Jedi was portrayed as an epic hero shown by Luke. Luke Skywalker perseveres through many challenging adventures to gather his friends and proving he is an epic hero along the way. In episode four, Luke takes on the quest to leave his home planet of Tatooine to go to the Rebellions home base on one of their cruisers. While here he gets to know everyone quickly and becomes a pilot. In episode five, Luke travels from Hoth to Cloud City. Along that journey, Luke gathers many allies such as the Rebellion fleet. In episode six, Luke travels to Tatooine to save his friends Han Solo. While he is saving his friend Luke uses his supreme ethics to fool Jaba the Hut and escape with Han Solo. Luke shows great epic heroism while gathering his friends. Finally, Luke's epic heroism is tested when he tries and eliminate the galaxy of the darkside. In episode four, Luke puts himself in danger for other people and fights off stormtroopers and defends his mentor Obi Wan Kenobi. In episode five, Luke performed a brave deed by taking out many ATAT Walkers. This act of bravery almost costed him his life because his speeder crashed but luckily he survived. In episode six, Skywalker finds his rival Darth Vader and the Sith Lord then challenges them and beats both of them. Therefore, his brave actions rid the galaxy of all the darkside. Luke Skywalker proved he was an epic hero through his brave deeds, dangerous quests, and his courageousness for defending other people. He is put through trials and tested his strength, but prevails. He also becomes the best Jedi that were to ever live and was the last of the Jedi. Luke Skywalker is the epitome of an epic hero.
