Some characteristics of CSR(CSI): a reection on the encyclical Caritas in Veritate:!

1. CSR is an ethical responsibility.! locating resources, nancing, production, consumption and all other phases in the economic cycle inevitably have moral implications. Thus every economic decision has a moral consequence. CV 37! If all actions and inactions have moral content, then they give rise to moral responsibilities that businesses must assume.!

2. CSR is not an abstract principle.! It is derived from the responsibility towards other stakeholders namely the workers, the suppliers, the consumers, the natural environment and the broader society.! 3. CSR derives from the rms purpose and objectives.! It is not a separation of the owners life as a business person concentrating on the accumulation of wealth; and his role as a philanthropist who gives away his wealth after he retires. It is innovating business so that the act of making prot considers authentic development of society.! 4. CSR is based on Justice and Charity! Social responsibilities cannot be exercised where justice is not present. Justice is the criteria that govern action. However, CSR must go beyond being fair, but include charity. It is not only a relationship of rights and duties, but of generosity, mercy and communion (solidarity) as well. (CV 6)! 5. CSR is voluntary but not optional.! At the moment, there is no law that requires a company to do this. It is an initiative. However, ethics and morality obliges/requires the company to adopt CSR and sustainable practices that upholds the companys survival at the same time caring for the good of the human person and the common good of society. It is a free response to the call to shared responsibility. CV17!

6. CSR is centered on the human person.! If authentic development is to promote the good of man and the whole man (CV18), CSR must be oriented towards that objective; because the primary capital to be safeguarded and valued is man, the human person in his/her integrity. CV 25! In the process of promoting human dignity, CSR must also operate on the principle of subsidiarity, that is to put up programs that count on the capabilities of persons involved, not seeking to solve everything for them to put them in a position to solve their problems for themselves (GK Farmers and House beneciaries). The people who benet ought to be involved in the planning and implementation of the programs, respecting their freedom while relying on their participation. CV 47!

7. CSR is not philanthropy but solidarity.! The charity that constitutes CSR is not mere sentimentality or messianism where action is dependent on the owners kindness but a solid virtue that has its origin in God. CV5. It is inspired by the an ethics of virtue that stresses the role of solidarity. ! Development is impossible without upright men and women, without nanciers and politicians whose consciences are nely attuned to the requirements of the common good. Both professional competence and moral consistency are necessary. CV71!

Development needs Christians with their arms raised towards God in prayer, Christians moved by the knowledge that truth-lled love, caritas in veritate, from which authentic development proceeds, is not produced by us, but given to us. For this reason, even in the most difcult and complex times, besides recognizing what is happening, we must above all else turn to God's love. Development requires attention to the spiritual life, a serious consideration of the experiences of trust in God, spiritual fellowship in Christ, reliance upon God's providence and mercy, love and forgiveness, self-denial, acceptance of others, justice and peace.CV79!
