Many thoughts cross the mind of Americans when censorship is put into play.

Many have offered solutions for the problem but what can be said about censorship. Weve all seen the television shows where we wish they couldnt have the bleeps; blocks are nudity, and more disturbing images. For starters, The American Civil Liberties Union, or ACLU, defines censorship as the suppression of words, images, or ideas that are offensive. The ACLU continues with [o]nce you allow the government to censor someone else, you cede to it the power to censor you, or something you like. Personally I see that as a very well made point towards censorship. No one wants to have the words or creativity taken from their mind controlled by someone else who feels offended by your thoughts. Weve all heard the common argument that censorship goes against the first amendment but what solution can we take to help understand censorship in entertainment. Take for example the television network, Comedy Central. The network plays movies such as Ferris Buellers Day Off, Tommy Boy, and occasionally, Office Space with few to no cussing as well as the necessary censoring to said movies. Late night shows such as Tosh.0, The Jeselnik Offensive, and South Park which does show an increase in offensive language and inappropriate visuals which same as well has the right amount of censoring. Once the 12 Oclock hour comes, Comedy Central cuts any sort of censoring off to certain shows and movies. Take for example, The South Park movie: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut. They are allowed the nudity and the profanity by the FCC. According to the FCC the Commission adopted a rule that broadcasts, both on television and radio, that fit within the indecency definition and that are aired between

6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. are prohibited and subject to indecency enforcement action. This is one reason as to why Comedy Central is allowed to show profanity and nudity so late at night. The FCC provides a time for such vulgarity between 10p.m. and 6a.m. A personal opinion for a solution for television censorship is that once cable is put into any home the parents are, no matter what, given a password for channels they set up in the house. The way it would be is that the cable company comes into a home whilst setting up the cable they ask the parents for a password of their choosing for the television. Once programmed whenever an inappropriate channel is shown the password must be put into the television for the channel. To first get this solution one must contact every cable company and putting an enforcement on a parental lock. The company would have to make is an obligation for every parent to have the block. Now for people who arent parents will as well get the option of the lock on their cable but for parents it is a must.
