Islamic Education
By: Maulana Dawood Vowda Sahib

We need to realize the object of our creation and strive to become true and practical Muslims. The enemies of Islam have successfully brainwashed many Muslims to such an extent that the truth makes no sense to them and they live in a state of denial. We must admit that we have failed ourselves and our children as well to come up with sound Islamic education, but we should not despair. Instead we should make a concerted effort to make amends for the past by firstly repentance and then a change. There has to be a sound Islamic environment in the home which will have an impact on the children. Before the advent of Islamic schools, children acquired sound Islamic education, when they attended Maktab in the afternoon after school. Every child knew that the morning schools consisted of secular information and as Muslims we should not be influenced by anything un-Islamic. The afternoon

4 December 2013

Safar 1435

Maktab was the Childs link with sound Islamic inheritance of religious knowledge. The challenge is to preserve our Islamic identity. Muslims should be seeking sound Islamic knowledge to such an extent that one is satisfied. Pure Islamic knowledge is in reality a source of enlightenment for Muslims. Many Muslims perform many acts in Salah etc. which are improper and not acceptable, but they are content with the little knowledge they have. There are many things permissible, but yet not desirable in Islam. Muslims must endeavour to secure the company of qualified, sincere and dedicated learned scholars with sound character and high morals to quench the thirst of those seeking sound Islamic education. Unfortunately the standard of Islamic education has been compromised tremendously, resulting in the quality spiraling downwards drastically. May Allah Taala grant us courage to strive to seek true, pure and sound Islamic knowledge and have mercy upon us and the generations to follow.
Aameen Yaa Rabbal-Aalameen.

They said, Pray for us to your Lord that He makes it clear to us what sort she be. He said, He says she be a cow neither too old, nor too young of some middle age in between. Now, do what you are being asked to do. They said, Pray for us to your Lord that He make it clear to us what colour she be. He said, He says that

she be a yellow cow, rich yellow in her colour, pleasing for all to look at. They said, Pray for us to your Lord that He makes it clear to us of what sort she be, for we are confused about this cow, and if Allah wills, We shall certainly take the right course. He said, He says that it be a cow which is not tractable for tilling the soil or in watering the fields, sound and without blemish. They said, Now, you have come up with the truth. Then, they slaughtered her, although it did not appear they would do it. (Verse 68 71).

These verses show how the Israelites were disposed to disobedience, and how this inclination expressed itself in different forms. The Hadeeth says that if these people had obeyed Allah Taalas commandment without raising so many doubts and asking unnecessary questions, such strict condition would not have been imposed on them, and the sacrifice of any cow whatsoever would have been accepted.

said:

He who removes from his brothers way a difficulty from the difficulties of the world, Allah will remove from his way a difficulty from the difficulties of the world (Dunya) and Hereafter (Akhirah). And he who will grant ease (respite) to a person in difficulty, Allah Taala will

9 December 2013

Safar 1435

grant him ease in the Dunya and Akhirah. He who hides the faults of another Muslim, Allah Taala will hide his faults in the Dunya and the Akhirah. Allah Taala remains in the aid of his servant so long as his servant is in the in the assistance of his brother. He who undertakes a journey seeking knowledge, Allah Taala will make easy for him a path to Jannah. Never do a group of people gather in any house from the houses of Allah reciting His Book (i.e. the Holy Quran) and discussing it among themselves, except the tranquility descends upon them, mercy enshrouds them, the angels throng around them, and Allah Taala mentions them in the presence of those that are with Him (i.e. the Angels). He whose actions delay him will not be hastened by his lineage! (Muslim)

Commentary:
The Hadeeth teaches us the virtue of the following: 1. Helping those who are in difficulty. 2. Granting respite to those debtors who are experiencing financial hardship. 3. Hiding the personal faults of Muslim individuals. 4. Seeking knowledge (Deeni knowledge knowledge of the Holy Quran, Sunnah etc) 5. Reciting the Holy Quran in the Masjid. 6. Attending Deeni gatherings.

10 December 2013

Safar 1435

Note:
1. He who hides the faults of another Muslim .. The aim of this sentence is to discourage ghibah (backbiting). It, therefore, means that we should not publicize the personal mistakes of particular individuals. However, it does not mean that we are not permitted to publicly denounce/ condemn an evil that is common in society. 2. He who undertakes a journey seeking knowledge The commentators of Hadeeth are unanimous that such statements (regarding the virtue of knowledge) are regarding Deeni knowledge only! The meaning of this sentence is that when a person seeks knowledge of Deen, he learns to lead his life according to the Holy Quran and Sunnah. Leading ones life according to the noble Quran and Sunnah will Insha-Allah enter one into Jannah. It must, however, also be remembered that, just as in all other acts of worship (ibaadah), Ikhlaas (sincerity), is most essential. 3. He whose actions delay him .. The meaning of this sentence is that mans destiny in the Hereafter does not depend on his lineage eternal success depends only on Imaan and good actions. Thus, if a person of noble lineage (a respectable family) delays in doing good actions, he will be deprived of Allah Taalas pleasure and the eternal comforts of Jannah.

Lesson:
1. One must help fellow Muslim. 2. Grant ease to any person in difficulty.

enquired of the child if his/her father

was present. The child said that he was present, and he was busy eating. Hazrat Abu Qatadah

that he was in the house, and that he should please come out. When the person came out, Hazrat Abu Qatadah (Raziyallahu Anhu) asked him as to why he was in hiding. The man said that he was undergoing difficult financial conditions. Hearing that he was suffering from poverty, Hazrat Abu Qatadah

began crying. He then said, I have learnt from the king of both worlds that he who gives respite or overlooks the debt of a debtor, Allah Taala will protect him from the fears and torment of the Day of Judgment. Saying this he forgave his debtor!

Let us ponder for a while. The result of the truth spoken by the child was that the debt of the father was forgiven. Indeed this is the blessing of speaking the truth. On the other hand, look at the Sahaabi

he wipes out the entire debt by virtue and with what perfection did he

THE DEOBAND ULAMA

AND THEIR LOVE FOR

HAZRAT RASULULLAH " #

From the teachings and advices of Faqeehul-Ummat, Hazrat Mufti Mahmood Hasan Gangohi (Rahmatullahi Alaihi)
Compiled by: Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Rahmatullah Sahib Kashmiri (Daamat- Barakatuhum) (Continued from the previous issue of AN-NOOR)

Avoiding customs of shirk and having firm belief in the Oneness of Allah Taala
A Muslim should have such faith that he is not prepared to bow down before any idol, tree or building. He should only bow his head before Allah Taala. He does not have to lower his head before anyone or anything else. He should believe that it is only Allah Taala who controls all affairs. People who have such faith should ask only from Allah Taala. When they are in need of something, they seek the help of Allah Taala. They consider Him to be the only one who cures. He only is the all powerful. He alone gives life. He is the one who takes lives. They understood that benefit or harm is only from Allah Taala. They have discarded the thought that any other being can benefit or harm them. Hazrat Maulana Gangohi (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) writes, I

14 December 2013

do not consider that harm or benefit comes to me from anyone other than Allah Taala. This thought no longer remains in my heart. Leave alone the customs of Shirk, the senior Ulama of Deoband remained completely safe from even bidat (innovations). Hazrat Gangohi (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) and Hazrat Sheikhul-Hind (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) A yearly Urs celebration used to be held in Gangoh at the Khanqah of Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Quddoos Gangohi (Rahmatullahi Alaihi). Later on, this Khanqah became the residence of Hazrat Maulana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi (Rahmatullahi Alaihi). However, during the three days of the Urs, Hazrat Maulana (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) used to leave the Khanqah and leave Gangoh. He would grant his students and mureeds leave for three days to go away. They would only return when the Urs was over. After teaching the sixth period on a Thursday, Hazrat Sheikhul-Hind (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) would usually come from Deoband to Gangoh to visit Hazrat Maulana Gangohi (Rahmatullahi Alaihi). Once, Hazrat Sheikhul-Hinds friend, who was very close to him during his student days had later on become a government employee, asked, O Mahmood, tell me, what is there in Gangoh, that you go there every Thursday? Hazrat (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) replied, O ignorant one! You havent experienced the benefits. Come with me one day. (To be concluded, Insha-Allah)

Method of Esaal-e-Thawaab
Q. Our forefathers have done a lot of good to us. What must I do if my heart desires that I carry out some action by means of which the punishment or difficulty they are experiencing in the grave (May Allah Taala forbid) is uplifted or lightened? A: There are numerous actions that one can do. Once someone had posed a similar question to Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and he suggested the digging of a well, for as long as the creation continues benefiting from the well, one will continuously receive Thawaab (reward).

Accepting the invitation of those intending Esaal-e-Thawaab

Q. Will the Thawaab (reward) reach the one to whom the Thawaab is being sent by performing Nafl (voluntary) Salah or by reciting the Holy Quran or by inviting the Ulama for meals in order to make Zikr or recite the Holy Quran?

16 December 2013

Safar 1435

A: The Thawaab will definitely reach the person to whom it is being sent. However, people should not be called to recite the Holy Quran. The reason for this is that when people are called to recite the Holy Quran, they feel that meals will also be served. Hence, those who think in this way will not receive any Thawaab, let alone the one to whom the Thawaab is being sent. It is correct to perform Nafl-Salah or recite the Holy Quran and send the Thawaab to someone. Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Raziyallahu Anhu) made a bequest that people should go to a certain Masjid-Shareef, perform two Rakaats Salah and send the Thawaab to him.

The incident of a Sahib-e-Kashf (one who receives inspiration)

A person once passed by a graveyard and saw pearls scattered about and the dead were out of their graves collecting them. However, there was one person who was out of his grave, but not collecting the pearls. The passer-by went up to him and enquired from him regarding the whole scene that he was witnessing? Deceased: The family members and friends of the dead send Thawaab (reward) to them that take the form of pearls as you see.

Become a sincere and active Aalim A non-believer translates the Holy Quraan
However, the knowledge which is only limited to talks without being put into practice, is nothing but discovery or Malumaat. This is why in a Hadith, the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) asked for beneficial Ilm. Many a times, a person may even be an Aalim so to speak; but his heart is ignorant. Allah Taala says in the Holy Quran Subhan-Allah!

j$] F F] m ] k
So, have seen him who has taken his desires as his god? [Al-Jathiya 45:23 Only relevant portion of the Aayah is documented] They have become worships of their desires, lusts and wishes. All this is idol worship. The worship of Allah Taala is a different thing altogether. After the above Aayah, Allah Taala says in the Holy Quran:

# ] $ ] oF

And Allah Taala has let him go astray, despite having knowledge. [Al-Jathiya 45:23 Only relevant portion of the Aayah is documented] We therefore need to be fearful of this.

Ignorance after ilm

People who smoke cigarettes know that they cause cancer. These same people will even advise their children against smoking, telling them that it is an evil thing and ruins lives. They advise other people against it? Even the cigarette manufacturing companies put a warning one each packet: Cigarette smoking is harmful to your health However, the smoker will, after a little while of abstaining, develop a deep craving for a cigarette and will not rest until he has smoked one. The above is an example of being ignorant despite having knowledge. In the same way, a person may know that a certain deed amounts to a major sin, but Satan is in control of him, his Nafs overpowers him, his senses are clouded. Despite his knowledge, he commits a major sin. This is ignorance despite having knowledge.

# ] $ ] j$] oF j $ F F] m ] oF k
So, have you seen him who has taken his desires as his god, and Allah has let him

go astray, despite having Knowledge, and has sealed his ear and his heart. [Al-Jathiya 45:23 Only relevant portion of the Aayah is documented] Allahu Akbar!

Now who will guide him after Allah Taala? Still, do you not take lessons? [Al-Jathiya 45:23 Only relevant portion of the Aayah is documented] Therefore, the acquiring of Ilm is but the first step. True Ilm is that on which a person acts. Otherwise, it will be mere Malumaat, not Ilm. This is why it is said:

^e e ]
Ilm without action is an evil And

Actions without Ilm are a source of misguidance So first one must acquire Ilm, and secondly act upon it.

BRINGING UP CHILDREN IN ISLAM

By: Maulana Dr. Muhammad Habibullaah Mukhtaar Sahib Translated by: Jenab Rafiq Abdurrahmaan Sahib

Mercy
During the days of Jaahiliyyah (period of ignorance prior to the advent of Islam), Sayyidina Umar
(Raziyallahu
anhu)

was very rude and harsh, but, after

embracing Islam, it seemed as though mercy flowed from his heart. When Sayyidina Abu Bakr
anhu) (Raziyallahu anhu)

said,

farewell to the army of Sayyidina Usaamah

(Raziyallahu

he forbade them not to kill any woman, aged

people or children. He instructed them not to pull out trees or chop down any fruit-bearing trees, and not to kill people who reside in churches. Such was the compassion of Islam towards all living things that centres were set up to look after lost dogs. Islam also founded trusts to provide the poor with the necessities for their marriage. Trusts were created

21 December 2013

Safar 1435

for the sick and for travelers, so that they could be attended to and fed. A trust was also created to help employees who broke their masters utensils, so that they could be reimbursed and protected against the punishment of angry employers. Likewise, trusts were created to provide clothes, food and so on. Madrasahs were also built. The qualities of mercy and tenderness promoted our ancestors to carry out such deeds. Selflessness Selflessness is to prefer others over oneself in matters involving profit and personal interests. This is a great psychological awakening. When it is done with the aim to seek the pleasure of Allah Taala, then it is a sign of true Imaan and a pure soul. It is a strong pillar supporting collective and mutual assistance. The Noble Quran created a sense of fraternity among Muslims and declared a selfless person as a successful person.1 The Ansaars offered equal shares to the Muhaajirs, thus presenting a grand example of selflessness that is not found anywhere else. Thus we learn that when a Sahabi of the Noble Rasulullah

Story

In time and on time

.. and the student to attain first position in the entire school is the brilliant Umar Ali? I was so excited to hear these words from my teacher at the awards evening that it could almost burst. I then walked up to the stage to collect my prizes as all my friends congratulated me. However, as I got to the stage, I suddenly heard my mother shouting, Get up Umar! Are you not going to school? A slap on the head soon had me sitting up in my bed and I realized that I was still dreaming. Sleeping late and unable to get up early in the morning! I heard my mother saying as I rubbed my eyes and looked around me. It was very late when I went to bed last night and I had forgotten to set my alarm. By now I had missed the car to school and would have to take a bus and then walk the rest of the way. Looking at the clock, I was happy to know that there was still three quarters of an hour left. I jumped up and went straight to the bathroom, where I spend 15 minutes. I then dressed in my uniform and wore my shoes without any time to polish them as I

25 December 2013

ought to have done. My mother always told me to get all my things ready the previous night, but playing had made me forget. I then started to comb my hair, but I would not come right. As I struggled in front of the mirror, father remarked, So much time to front of the mirror? It seems like everyone in the school is going to be staring at you only. I then ate a quick breakfast and rushed out of the door. I just made it on the last bus and managed to grab on to one of the handles since all the sitting space was taken. Suddenly the bus braked at the stop and I was sent flying across to the end. Everyone laughed as I got up and dusted my clothing off. The conductor then came around to collect the bus fare and I was forced to part with my spending money, which would not have been necessary if I was early enough to get the car. Anyway, the bus finally halted a stop and I sprang off to walk the other half of the way to school. I was happy to note that the bus saved half the time, but when I looked at my watch, all my happiness disappeared. There was only five minutes left for school to start. I started to run as fast as I could, but I soon stumbled and fell headlong on the pavement as my sole buckled. I had forgotten to have my shoes repaired and now it finally gave up. All flustered, I finally made it to the school gate. The first period was chemistry and the teacher started to check our books. Only when he came to me did I realize that I had been so busy playing that I had

26 December 2013

forgotten to complete my homework the previous night. I felt the sharp pain as the teacher hit my head. That was the second shot for the day after mothers. The rest of the day was just as remarkable and I was ever so pleased that I was walking home alive that afternoon. In keeping with events of the day, the afternoon brought a storm and I was drenched as I walked. To complete the day, I then slipped in the mud and was covered in dirt when I got home. When I knocked on the door, Mother laughed, Sorry, dear beggar, but the food is not yet ready. Perhaps you should come later. I bit my lip in anger, but said nothing as I went upstairs to change my clothes and take a bath. I had finished eating when father gave me his shirt to have ironed, saying, Please do it for me because I have an important appointment tonight. I took to shirt with me, but was irritated about having another chore when I was so tired. Perhaps I should lie down a while, I thought to myself. However, I was so exhausted that I immediately fell fast asleep. Where is my shirt, Umar? were the words that woke me up before the third slap of the day landed on my head. Father would be late for his appointment because of my negligence. Dear friends! Not doing things immediately and when they ought to be done causes unnecessary trouble for everyone. Therefore, always ensure that you are always in time and on time.

Dear Editor:

The present day world is full of Fitan: Trials. To save our Imaan from destruction, it is very necessary to identify all such Fitan which are prevailing in our day-to-day life. And for identifying a Fitnah, we need sound knowledge of Islam. To achieve the pure and sound knowledge of Islam, we have to keep the company of pious scholars of Islam by attending their classes and speeches, and we have to study the Islamic books written by righteous authors on different Islamic topics. Your monthly journal, ANNOOR, is one of the best books on Islamic knowledge. It provides us a special light: Noor, and with the help of that light we are able to identify Fitan of our daily life. A master of the science of readings, that is, Tajweed & Qiraah, Hazrat Maulana Qari Abdullah Saleem Sahib Daamat-Barakatuhum, who is, at present, serving the Islamic needs of the Muslim community in Chicago America, visited Darul-Uloom Raheemiyyah Bandipora on 24 October Thursday 2013. This septuagenarian scholar was accompanied by his sonin-law, Maulana Waasif Husain Sahib alias Nadeemul-Waajdi. At the Raheemiyyah campus, the esteemed rector of Raheemiyyah varsity, Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Rahmatullah Sahib Qasmi
Zeeda-Majduhum, and the faculty members of this

institution welcomed both the guests with open arms. Next day, Hazrat Qari Sahib delivered a valuable speech at Central Jamiah-Masjid of Bandipora prior to Friday-Salah at the special request of Imam-e-Jamiah-cum-president Awqaaf, Maulana Khurshid Ahmad Nadvi Sahib. In his speech, Hazrat

Qari Sahib placed greater emphasis on holding the Holy Quran and the blessed Sunnats of the beloved Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi wasallam in high esteem by learning them, teaching them to children and adhering to them affectionately. The Friday-Khutbah was read by Hazrat Qari Sahib and then Friday-Salah was also led by him at the request of Imam-eJamiah, Maulana Khurshid Sahib. After Friday-Salah, a special Majlis of the reciters: qaris was held at Raheemiyyah in which Hazrat Qari Sahib delivered an enlightening speech in connection with reciting the noble Quran in seven and ten readings. Recitation of the noble Quran in its particular reading and its preservation is a separate right of the Holy Quran while understanding its Tafseer and meaning and then acting upon it is another right of the book of Allah, explained Hazrat Qari Sahib with references and arguments from the Holy Quran.
