The principle of nephelometry

A light beam with a wavelength of 840 nm is passed through a cuvette containing the antigen-antibody complex.

Nephelometry measures the amount of light scattering by an antigen-antibody complex.

The amount of scattered light is proportional to the concentration of the antigen-antibody complexes in the sample over a wide concentration range.

Sensitivity can be increased by coating latex particles with antibodies or antigens. This process makes it possible to measure small molecules, such as Homocysteine and Cystatin C, or analytes requiring optimal low-end sensitivity, including hsCRP and IgG3/IgG4 subclasses.
